Title: The Ultimate band
Post by: Sauza12 on June 09, 2004, 08:52:55 AM
I went to go see Rush yesterday, and while I was sitting there, I thougt who would I put in the ultimate band?  So that's what this thread is about.  Who would play what in your all-star band?  Here's my choices:

Singer-Sebastian Bach (Skid Row)
This guy can hit an unbelievable range of notes, and he sings with so much emotion it makes you feel like he actually cares about what hes singing

Lead Guitarist-Yngwie Malmsteen
This was a really tough decision for me.  It was pretty much a tie between Yngwie, Eddie Van Halen, and Jimi Hendrix.  I ended up going with Yngwie because the speed he plays is almost superhuman.  He can run through scales faster than anybody on Earth.

Rhythm Guitar-James Hetfield (Metallica)
James comes up with some great riffs, and plays with such ferocity that this was an easy choice for me.

Bass-Les Claypool (Primus)
It was a toss up between him and Geddy Lee, but Les won out in the end.  The way he plays makes having a rhythm guitar completely unnecessary.

Drums-Niel Peart (Rush)
If you have never heard or seen one of his drum solos, get off your ass and find a copy right now.

Singers: Joe strummer and Mick Jones
lead guitar: Mick Jones
Rhythm guitar: Joe Strummer
Bass: Paul simonon (he's allowed to sing once in a while too)
Drums: Topper Headon

The perfect band already was formed in 1976, the Clash.  Sure, there might be better individual artists (Jeff Hanneman on guitar for example), but if you'd put all those people together, you'd just get a mess. If you put the people from my list together, you get brilliant music.

Glad to see somebody else out there appreciates the awesome power that is Joe Strummer.  Streetcore was such a great album.

I mainly like Joe Strummer for what he did with the Clash. His solo work, while being pretty good music, isn't as impressive.

This seems like fun. I'm gonna do two bands for my two opposite loves of the music spectrum:

Post-Rock Supergroup:

Jónsi Birgisson (Sigur Ros)- Vocals, Guitar

Stuart Braithwaite (Mogwai)- Guitar, Vocals

Takaakira "Taka" Goto (Mono)- Guitar

Teppei Teranishi (Thrice)- Piano/Keyboard

Greg Burns (Red Sparowes)- Bass/Slide Guitar

Christopher Hrasky (Explosions In The Sky)- Drums

Man I even impressed myself with that lineup. They would be the ultimate source of ear shattering destruction and fragile beauty, along with complexity and innovation. If that band ever came to be I would literally crap my pants.

Grind/Metal/Hardcore Supergroup:

Jake Bannon (Converge)- Vocals

Sean Ingram (Coalesce) Vocals

Kurt Ballou (Converge)- Guitar, Backup Vocals

Ben Weinman (The Dillinger Escape Plan)- Guitar

Stacy Hilt (Coalesce)- Bass

Gil Sharone (The Dillinger Escape Plan)- Drums

Total Annhilation. Period. Two opposite ends of the vocal spectrum with Jake and Sean, powerful riffage from Kurt and mind-bending complex guitar lines from Ben. Groove-tinged bass from Stacy, Blast-beat drums from Gil. Your head would probably explode after 30 seconds of music from this group.

I've been thinking long and hard about this, and finally came up with one.
Vocals - Paul Rodgers
Bass - Roger Glover
Guitar - Eric Clapton & Jimi Hendrix
Drums - Keith Moon
And Paul McCartney and John Lennon to write the songs.

Oh yeah, pretty sure the real 'ultimate' band would be The Plastic Ono band.

Vocals: Jim Morrison (The Doors)
Guitars: Dimebag Darrell (Pantera) and Kirk Hammet (Metallica)
Bass: Krist Novoselic (Nirvana)
Drums: Neil Peart (Rush)

If they needed a keyboardist: Ray Manzarek (The Doors)

I picked Jim because he was THE MAN when he's a great singer, especially on LA Woman
I picked Dimebag b/c his solos are ridiculous and Hammet b/c he is such a great guitarist
I picked Krist b/c, well , I don't know
I picked Peart b/c he is definately one of the best drummers of all time
I picked Manzarek b/c he is awesome.
