Title: Saturn Games for the Virtual Console?
Post by: TraderJake on March 16, 2007, 03:51:08 PM
Some employee at DigiPen is rumored to say so.

Nights, anyone?

I don't think it's true because Wii only has 512mb of internal memory, so it won't be able to hold very many, if any, Saturn games since they are all on CDs, which are larger than 512.

The Wii also has two USB ports, meaning that is possible that Nintendo might actually allow for the use of external hard drives.

OMG! If it's NiGHTS, I will go insane! I have never played this game but I have heard so much about it.

If this does indeed happen, I wonder if this means they are going to add a Saturn section to the Virtual Console.

Well, they've already announced new MSX and NeoGeo sections for the Japanese Wii. I'd think that they could add one for Saturn. I love Nights, but I'd really like to see some of the harder to find stuff (Dragon Force, Shining Force III, Burning Rangers, etc).

As for the file sizes, I'm sure that they could be smaller than they were on disc. Compression techniques have come a long way since 1996. Hell, look at the videos they put on DS cards. I don't think that space is really an issue, especially considering the SD slot. If they really wanted to, they could let you play them directly off of the SD card. Access times would be slower than on the internal memory, but faster than the original disc media.

Cool new avatar Tondog :)

I guess they were bound to touch it sooner or later....
They left it as a Saturn exclusive letting it be a unique and magical experience only Saturn owner were entitled to for this long,
so you have to admire that.
