Title: I have a dilemma.
Post by: TurboGrafxer AKA DCer on May 20, 2007, 11:53:07 AM
450th POST!!!!!

I have 4 turboduo games that are still in their factory plastic. they have been eating at me for the past few weeks. before i was able to play duo games it was all good, no problem. Now i keep looking at them wondering on how they play. the games are:

Implode
Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective Vol. 2
Riot Zone
Loom

Your making it more difficult then it needs to be.  All you need to consider are two things.

1.Do you buy games to play?

2.Did you buy those four games as a posible gain in the future?

If you bought them to play then why havent you opened them?  Heck, for that matter, why buy a sealed copy rather then a used one?  If you bought them for the eventual profit, why even consider opening them?  Just go buy another copy of each CIB or loose.  That way you'll have them sealed but can still play em.  True, you'll have to fork out that much more money for them, but it's your call.

Simple, open them, insert the media into the console, power up and play the games. What is the point in having them if you don't use them? It's not like they're going to be worth a billion dollars next year. Why horde things like that anyways? You could get hit by a bus tomorrow and die never having experienced those particular titles all for nothing.
Hope that helps.

IMO sealed games should remain sealed.
Chances are you can pick up an open copy so why not find the sealed one a home where the owner is looking for a sealed version?

I don't open games for any systems pre Gamecube Xbox PS2.
If i really want to play the game i will find an open copy and keep one sealed.
That being said i still have a bunch of sealed games for Xbox, 360, PS2 and Cube.
Why bother opening them until i feel absolutely compelled to play them?

i bought them because i want to complete the collection like i did with the tg-cd. i doubt i will ever really complete it but i will try to get damn close. but anyways i bought them on ebay because the auction went low where i considered it a deal. i paid $10 + s/h for implode, around $20 shipped for loom, around $25 shipped for riot zone, and around $25 shipped for sherlock holmes consulting detective vol. 2. so i got good deals for these. probably around the same cost for used. i also bought jackie chan's action kung fu and darkwing duck for the tg-16 new and i opened them, kept the game/sleeve/manual and sold the boxes/plastic trays to make some money back. cant do that with duo games. there is nothing to resell to make it worth opening. i just dont want to regret it somewhere down the line for opening them when they might not even end up being a game i like. aarrgghh, i feel like the rope in tug-o-war on the decision.

that's a good point. live for today because you may die tomorrow. the more i think about it i know as long as i keep them mint (as i try to do with all my games) they will still have some value close to new. dude has a point: they are not going to be worth a billion dollars tomorrow. more then likely the value wont exceed $50 within the next 10 years. besides that i plan on keeping these for the majority of my existence, with maybe selling them after i get old like wrldstrman. (just joking)

Loom is a good game; I have it for pc. It's worth opening and playing, unless you can get it for another system, but I know that wouldn't be the same.

loom is the only one out of the 4 that isnt sold on www.tzd.com new. its the one i would think to be more beneficial to keep sealed. i caved in a little and opened and played and beat in one sitting RIOT ZONE. it was actually fun and i am sure i will play it again for the point that there are 2 characters you can be tony & hawk. i chose hawk cause the back said it was his girl friend that got kidnapped. the logical choice. next time i'll choose tony and see how the ending is, if its even different. i enjoyed sherlock holmes vol. 1 on the tg-cd but found it to be a bit leangthy and too 'sophisticated' for my taste, so i can probably do without opening sherlock holmes vol. 2. implode is readily available in mass amounts from www.tzd.com or www.mindrec.com for $20 plus shipping (go with mindrec, their s/h is cheaper). so i gues opening that just depends on how i feel at some time. but eventually i think it will get opened. i guess riot zone quenched my thirst for something new to play on the turbografx.

Open them, play them till you're bored with them. Then have them re-sealed and pretend like it never happened.

Keep them sealed.

Cheap used copies can probably be obtained easily.

Sealed copies are not so easily obtained

If really common open them. If you want to play them get a loose copy.

I'll side with Tynstar. Don't open them if they are rare.

well i bought about 7 "new" PS1 games a few weeks ago and even though they were all shit i opened them and played em as i dont see the reason in owning a games if i cant play it no matter how "rare" it is.

So in answer to the question open it play it and then if its crap dont play it again or sell it!

Glad to hear it. So now instead of having three sealed "objects" that were causing conflict and consternation you now have three games that you are enjoying. :)

glad to see you open them and play them. why else would you buy them?

They are some of the most common duo games, I'd go ahead and open them. Although some duo games are rare and very expensive, I doubt a more obscure system like the duo will ever become popular enough to where the common games are worth much of a premium sealed.
