Title: Question about FF VII?
Post by: cverz2 on June 05, 2007, 05:29:40 PM
Hey, I just recently got FF VII a few weeks ago.  I was looking it over today and noticed a misprint on the back.  The "i" in masterpiece is printed over the "r". Is this a common thing or what. And does it make any difference in value. Good or Bad

Thanks,
Clint

Common it will make you some money though just because it is FF VII.

I wouldn't say it would be of much (additional) interest except to variant collectors, and I have seen a handfull hit eBay before, so I'ld be willing to say they're "uncommon" (for FF VII) but not rare.  Still, if you do resell it, do list it as a misprint because someone might think it is rare anyways.  ;)

I wish I could say more.  The online price of this game is rediculously over-inflated, making a "value" difficult to pin down.

You'll get AT LEAST 60 for it.

Yeah it is common, I believe that was the first print run of the game.  According to Dangerboy over at the DP forums, there are something like four different case variations of FFVII.  If it is complete, it'll definatly fetch a hefty price even though its print run was massive.  Too bad I never checked ebay prices because about two years ago my local Sam Goody had about 10 copies priced at $15 a piece.

Yeah, I bought mine for $15 used at about that time and ours had a lot of the Greatest Hits version (new of course) that my brother picked up.  I was surprised when the eBay prices shot through the roof in less than a year even for the GH version.  Here's a list of my knowledge of the variants...

2 different ESRB labels (black spine)
the misprint listed above
Greatest Hits version
a GH misprint with Sephiroth in flames on both inserts

...so 5 variants by my count
There might have been a Sqaure-Enix variant on the GH version, too.  I'm not quite sure.
