This article says that HD is actually superior to BluRay... i thought it was the other way around....

I'm not gonna argue.

Good news. The only thing that's left to do to kill off HD DVD is for Universal to go to the Blu Ray camp.

Read this article to get what is essentially my views on this whole war. I saw it on The Digital Bits a few weeks ago and found it was the perfect opinion piece on why Blu Ray has already won this war.

First off, Blockbuster?!?

Can someone tell me who these guys are again?

Second, That article Tondog posted looks like nothing but a fanboy ranting on and on? The HD-DVD and Blueray war is just starting.

Like i said in my post.
My article states HD-DVD is superior.

Originally i heard otherwise...

In anycase Blockbuster really isn't the major player it once was.
I wouldn't be surprised to see them gone in another 5-10 years.
There is really no reason to go to them for games/movies as their selections are limited enough to begin with.

I can see Blu-Ray winning by being included with the base PS3. It automatically puts thousands of Blu-Ray players on the market just to people buying PS3s for gaming. A PS3 owner goes to rent a movie and sees the blu-ray version sitting there and says, "Oh, I've got one of those," and bam - Blu-Ray has a big head start on HD-DVD.

360 + HD DVD adapter still cheaper than a PS3.

You stand by that arguement though

;)

I will, thank you very much.

How many people on this site who have a 360 have bought the HD adapter? Probably none.

Of course nobody on this site has bought a PS3 either but still, you know that some people somewhere are buying PS3s and therefore are getting Blu-Ray whether they want it or not.

And the price difference is what? $50?

Nope. Premium+HD DVD=same price as the PS3. Elite+HD DVD=$80 more than the PS3. Only exception is core+HD DVD which would be $100 less than the PS3, but who the hell buys the core system anyways?

The same people who'd buy a 20gig PS3 I suppose. Believe it or not people actually buy these things to play games on, as hard as that is to fathom. So why not save $50-100 on useless equipment.

Don't forget that most Premium owners still buy mem cards to take XBLA games and profiles to frineds houses, and most countries don't have a video marketplace. On top of that 1/3 of 360 owners don't play online so they don't have any need to extra storage.

Too early to tell yet. Does this hurt HD-DVD? Yes it does but it doesn't kill it.

Target is the latest place to shun HD-DVD...

Another nail in the HD DVD coffin. No one believed me two years ago when I said Blu Ray would win, but now I'm being proven right. :D

Did porn shun HD DVD yet? if not then it isn't dead yet.

Is Blu Ray doing any good?

HD-DVD Strikes Back...

Paramount and Dreamworks will be HD-DVD exclusive.

And the war wages on...

Way to extend the format war, Paramount... ::) ::) ::)

Just you you know, Paramount was paid $150 million to go HD-DVD exclusive. http://www.nytimes.com/2007/08/21/technology/21disney.html?ei=5088&en=d4e1f285e2f41437&ex=1345348800&adxnnl=1&partner=rssnyt&emc=rss&adxnnlx=1187698143-B5wO3L/F+4r1NyAsum87vQ

I'm not the only one upset by this move. Michael Bay is pissed off at Paramount.

http://www.shootfortheedit.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2299

"I want people to see my movies in the best formats possible. For them to deny people who have Blu-ray sucks! They were progressive by having two formats. No Transformers 2 for me!

Bay"

And this deal doesn't include Spielberg films either, because he supports Blu Ray.

A lot of people in Hollywood are angry at Paramount/Dreamworks for taking this money and going exclusive HD DVD.

Sound like desperation by HD DVD camp to me.

HDDVD may be buying time...but 18 months is a LOT of time.

I don't see either side winning out here.

Thinking about Joe and Jane Consumer. If you bought movies on VHS, then bought them again on DVD, are you REALLY going to want to buy them a 3rd time?

Well, not now, like five or six years after DVD really took off.

I do agree with you there. I definitely see how this "war" could end up being like the DVD-Audio/SACD war of a few years ago. Both just ended up as very niche formats for audiophiles. Regular CDs and iTunes downloads prevailed through that war because it's kind of hard to enjoy the increased fidelity and surround sound that DVD-A and SACD provide while walking down a noisy street and listening to a 128 kbps mp3 of the source material on your junky iPod earbuds.

Wait a minute...I JUST AGREED WITH PHOENIX!!

Just thought i would add that Disney has also gone with BluRay.

I have noticed it watching DVDs lately.

They've been Blu Ray only for a long while now, even before the two formats launched.

Damn Disney! Now I'm embarrassed to have to share the same birthday as Walt...

Because Walt still runs everything from his grave.
