Title: B Movies Rock Like Krokus Post by: Lord Nepenthean on September 30, 2004, 12:38:28 PM First of all, Krokus rocks hard, for those not in the know. That said, I just want to state for the record that I love B movies. "I Love John Kerry" and I have discussed the movie rating scale several times. Obviously a really really awesome movie like.... Seven Samurai gets a 10/10. Something in the middle gets a 5/10, and something as atrocious as EuroTrip (which I hate) gets a 1/10.
Below a 1/10, things start to get interesting. There comes a point when the scale resets to 10/10. If a movie is SO BAD, it can become SO GOOD. Jesus Christ, Vampire Hunter, for example falls in here. It may not get a 10, but it's certainly awesome. Movies like Megaladon, Kindergarten Ninja (not Kindergarten Cop) and Boa vs. Python (which John Kerry Fan and I saw last night) are also great. Something like The Adventures of Beartooth goes past one, resets the scale, and resets it again. It may be the worst movie I have ever seen. Plan 9 From Outer Space gives it a run for its money. Hollywood Video has a lot of new B movies in their new releases, which I've been watching this summer a lot. Megaladon, Deep Shock, Tomb of the Werewolf, Boa vs. Python, The Curse of Dracula, Alien 51, Vicious, etc., etc. Anybody else watch these craptacular movies? Have any suggestions of good ones? Title: Re: B Movies Rock Like Krokus Post by: den68 on September 30, 2004, 12:55:03 PM with the exception of Plan 9 from Outer Space I can't say that I've seen any of those. I do enjoy a good crappy movie though.
not sure if any of these technically qualify as "B" movies but a few stinkers I quite enjoy include: Repo Man The Incredible Melting Man Attack of the Killer Tomatoes Ice Pirates Title: Re: B Movies Rock Like Krokus Post by: Izret101 on September 30, 2004, 01:02:36 PM Most made for TV movies. And alot of the stuff shown on SciFi.
They suck so bad but some are good to watch regardless. Title: Re: B Movies Rock Like Krokus Post by: shadytool on September 30, 2004, 04:05:24 PM ice pirates? i've seen time pirates with the midgets and liked it but i dont think it is B-movie. the "dead" movies and the "evil dead" movies are my fav B-movies.
Title: Re: B Movies Rock Like Krokus Post by: Lord Nepenthean on September 30, 2004, 05:54:29 PM Never heard of Ice Pirates before today, but I did a quick search on the IMDB and it's a very different movie than Time Bandits (which is what you're thinking of, I think). Time Bandits does rock though.
Shortly after posting this, I watched a movie that I saw a trailer for about a year ago and then forgot about called The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra. Basically, it takes the cheesy B sci-fi/horror movies of the 50's and 60's like Plan 9 and Beast From Haunted Cave and spoofs them. It's shot in black & white and is pretty much just like those old movies, only it's really funny. Now, if you haven't seen some of the movies it pokes fun at before, you won't appreciate it in the same way. If you have, though, I recommend looking for it. I found it at Hollywood Video. Some favorites:
Yor, the Hunter from the Future New Year's Evil Hell Comes to Frogtown Laserblast I'm sure I'm forgetting several titles. Watching Elvira's movie showcase was most essential in the 80's. Too bad nobody's filling that niche anymore. Title: Re: B Movies Rock Like Krokus Post by: shadytool on October 01, 2004, 08:31:17 PM time bandits is the movie nep, thanks.
and jonlester i agree with you that someone needs to step up to fill elvira.s shoes. those movies were great. Title: Re: B Movies Rock Like Krokus Post by: Sauza12 on October 04, 2004, 12:33:31 PM Ahhh, now we are getting into my expertise. When I first got a DVD player, I wanted to create a library of movies that nobody but me wanted to watch. That ended when I decided to buy Pulp Fiction.
Some of my favorites are Empire of the Ants, Reptilicus, Frogs, and this one movie that I think is called How to Make a Monster. It's about a video game company that is making a video game (duh) and the motion capture suit they used to make the game comes to life and starts killing everybody. If you ever want to get a good B movie, just look for the Midnight Movie line from MGM. They have some great ones available. Title: Re: B Movies Rock Like Krokus Post by: Lord Nepenthean on October 04, 2004, 01:21:32 PM Reptilicus is good, huh? I've been tempted to get it almost every time I go to Hollywood Video, but I always end up passing it up for some reason. I think I'll pick that one up next time I go (tonight or tomorrow).
Title: Re: B Movies Rock Like Krokus Post by: jonlester on October 04, 2004, 05:45:53 PM The 80s action movie thread reminded me of a choice that belongs here instead, Invasion USA, which makes Red Dawn look like Star Wars in comparison. The suspense music is the funniest part.
Title: Re: B Movies Rock Like Krokus Post by: Sauza12 on October 05, 2004, 10:12:11 AM Reptilicus is fantastic! It has some of the cheesiest special effects ever, and has an absolutley ludicris story line. I would definatly reccomend buying it.
Title: Re: B Movies Rock Like Krokus Post by: Lord Nepenthean on October 05, 2004, 11:55:54 AM Leon and I watched The Night Flier last night, which is a movie about a vampire that flies his plane to different airports by night, killing whoever happens to be there. It's based on a Stephen King short story. It's kind of borderline B movie, because it is an HBO movie and stars Miguel Ferrer, but everything about it is cheesy. It wasn't great by good or bad movie standards, but it was kind of entertaining. Tonight I'll be watching Ankle Biters or Darkest Knight.
Title: Re: B Movies Rock Like Krokus Post by: shadytool on October 05, 2004, 01:19:00 PM is "ankle biters" about little kids? ankle biters... get it?
... yeah that was stupid... Title: Re: B Movies Rock Like Krokus Post by: Lord Nepenthean on October 06, 2004, 01:00:35 PM Well, it's actually a LOT better than little kids. It's a movie about dwarf (not midget, mind you) vampires that want to creat "Shaq-Sized" vampires to take over the world or something. It had some hilarious parts, but it could have been a lot cooler. The audio was so quiet that it was hard to hear what anyone was saying, and much of the movie was so dark that it was also hard to see what was going on. Not being able to see or hear a movie kind of hinders the experience, even if it is something cool like dwarf vampires.
Title: Re: B Movies Rock Like Krokus Post by: Sauza12 on October 07, 2004, 07:46:02 AM On Saturday the Sci-Fi channel is premering some movie about those Japenese Snake-headed fish things, but now they eat.......HUMANS!!!! Bwa ha ha ha ha ha ha!
I'll post when I find out what time it's on and what the title is. Title: Re: B Movies Rock Like Krokus Post by: jonlester on October 12, 2004, 04:44:13 PM I just ordered "Laserblast" from Amazon and delivery date is estimated to be the day before Halloween. I'm set.
Title: Re: B Movies Rock Like Krokus Post by: Tynstar on November 05, 2004, 07:58:03 AM The Evil Dead movies and some of the Ed Wood movies are the only B movies I can think of that I have seen.
Evil Dead some of the best. Ed Wood only good if watching with a group of people. Title: Re: B Movies Rock Like Krokus Post by: Sauza12 on November 05, 2004, 09:02:33 AM A movie is playing on Sci-Fi at 9:00 on Saturday that looks like it could have something to it called Centipede! Very cheesy SFX and acting from what I've seen so far.
Title: Re: B Movies Rock Like Krokus Post by: Lord Nepenthean on November 09, 2004, 04:19:54 PM I just got done watching Murdercycle a few hours ago.
(http://blogs.salon.com/0002874/Sheri/scans2/murdercycle.JPG) The cover is the best thing about this movie. Admittedly, it is a REALLY cool cover, but don't bother seeing this. Most of the people on the IMDB gave this a 1/10. I'd knock it up to a 2/10 only because I've seen a lot worse, but this was pretty bad. The biggest problem was the horrendous acting, poor sound, and the crazy "doctor" who could read everyone's minds. Blech. The video and audio transfers were so bad that even though the movie came out in 1999, I felt like I was watching something ten years older than that. Still, I might make a t-shirt out of that cover art just because I sat through the whole thing without falling asleep. Title: Re: B Movies Rock Like Krokus Post by: The Metamorphosing Leon on November 10, 2004, 01:41:48 PM Anyone seen Angel of the Night? It was dutch or somthing, I dunno if it was that bad or not cause I was playing Myth at the same time.
Title: Re: B Movies Rock Like Krokus Post by: Lord Nepenthean on November 11, 2004, 02:05:36 PM Nope, never heard of it. I did see Blood Moon at Hollywood Video the other day, and almost rented it.
Last night, I watched two good B horror flicks. The first was C.H.U.D., which for those not in the know, stands for "Cannibalistic Humanoid Undergroud Dwellers." I wish I was making that up. If you haven't seen this movie, grab a few friends and rent it. It's absolutely hilarious, and it has that guy from Home Alone in it. The other one I watched was Jack Frost, which is about a horrible murderer named Jack Frost that was on his way to execuion when the transport wrecked in a snowstorm. They had hit a vehicle testing some sort of biological goo stuff, and it sprayed all over Jack Frost. Of course, this turns him into a murdering snowman. (What a coincidence that his name was Jack Frost.) This movie is supposed to be awful, and it is. But, think about it. There is a murderer turned snowman named Jack Frost on the loose, with constant metal Christmas songs playing in the background. Though not the best, there are also some good one-liners. I didn't recognize any of the actors or actresses besides Shannon Elizabeth. There is a really horrible scene with her in it, but I won't spoil that for you. Title: Re: B Movies Rock Like Krokus Post by: Hydrobond on November 11, 2004, 06:09:42 PM Murdercycle should be a crotch rocket, not a dirt bike.

I still use the term CHUD in my normal conversations to describe a particularly ugly person. "Damn what the hell is wrong with that guy? He looks like a CHUD." |
