Title: The New Pets Thread!
Post by: James on February 27, 2008, 05:26:53 PM
I was thinking of bumping the Pets Thread but it's about a year and a half old. This can keep the pet photos separate from the random photos thread.

Holly is three years old.

Fern is eleven years old. She broke her front left leg when she was seven and it never healed properly, so she walks with a limp. She has slight palsy after the vets made a mess of her leg operation, so the left side of her face is numb - she can't blink in that eye and her left lip doesn't move. She's smelly and barks a lot, costs a fortune in vet bills but we love her loads.

This is an "action" shot of her. She's not as photogenic as Holly.

This is Fern as a puppy with our old dog, Buttons. Buttons was 15 when she died. I think I was 11 or 12.

Holly when she was about six weeks old.

I'll move this over here then. This is Stevie. She is named after former Detroit Red Wings Captain Steve Yzerman. She's actually 11, I said she was 12 in the other post. She's got a bum leg too, actually it's her knee much like her namesake Steve Yzerman.

The dumbass mayor of Youngstown tried doing that, but the idiot never set it up to have anyone enforce it. So basically, it's still illegal but there's nothing no one can do about it, even a cop can't actually do anything about it.

Shouldn't they be worried about the violence there instead?

They should be, but Youngstown's problems are so bad, there's really nothing that can be done. Well, nothing other than just killing all the scum that lives here.

You'd think they'd take each other out and leave the place to the good people. :P

No kitties?

Here's my Lily at about 1 year:

And more recent (2 years old):

That shoebox is her favourite thing in the whole house. She plays with it, scratches on it, even sleeps in it. It's not big enough for her to really fit in, but she squeezes in anyway  ::)

No, I was actually thinking of the Norse god of mischief when I named her.  my roommate is allergic to cats but I saw her and two kids were trying to give her and another kitten a way for like an hour.  someone adopted the other one, so I called my roommate up and said "would you be mad if I adopted an adorible kitten?"  he said "no" and I then said "Good because I already did"  so I kept her in the training room for the rest of the day.  She sat on my shoulder the whole car ride home (which is currently her favorite spot to sit.  She sat on it for like two hours while I was playing Team Fortress 2 last night). and she's currently trying to climb onto my head.

You should totally always call her "Loki the Raven God, Contriver of All Lies"

25 years ago that picture would've covered like half of a computer screen. :P

What?

Title: Re: The New Pets Thread!
Post by: James on December 30, 2008, 08:24:11 PM
Maybe it's just a really small dog.

What?

Back in the days before you were born, (1997) computer monitors had relatively low resolutions of 800x600 or less.

Title: Re: The New Pets Thread!
Post by: Sirgin on December 30, 2008, 08:26:48 PM
Consider this resolution chart: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/e/e5/Vector_Video_Standards2.svg

Nowadays most of us have WSXGA+ monitors capable of outputting 1680x1050p. Full HD TV's and bigger screens (like the Apple 30" displays) support even higher resolutions.

Back in the 70ies/80ies PC monitors had much lower resolutions like 320x200, 320x240, 640x480, etc...

On such a monitor that same image of 88x49 pixels would take up much more (relative) space of a screen.

PS: Obviously I was exaggerating a bit with the "half the screen" part, hence the ":P" smiley.
