Title: Hooray for American universities! Post by: Arrrhalomynn on November 04, 2004, 02:48:53 AM http://www.cnn.com/2004/EDUCATION/11/03/people.lil.kim.ap/index.html
Quote SYRACUSE, New York (AP) -- Syracuse University students taking "Hip-Hop Eshu: Queen B@#$H101 -- The Life and Times of Lil' Kim" will have a guest speaker Wednesday -- the multiplatinum recording artist herself. Kim accepted an invitation to speak to the class, which is an accredited course being taught by English professor Greg Thomas. She'll also meet with faculty and about 100 other invited students during her visit to discuss her role in the hip-hop culture and her experiences as one of its leading female stars. "I am honored and quite proud that a class is being taught on my sensationalist lyrics, unique style and fashion and leadership role within the hip-hop community," the 29-year-old rapper said in a statement. The class is one of a growing number of courses being offered by colleges and universities around the country that look at the growth of hip-hop as a cultural movement. The Syracuse course requires students to read Kim's song lyrics as literary texts and analyze her iconography in videos and performances, according to the course description. What the hell is up with that? Title: Re: Hooray for American universities! Post by: Zimbacca on November 04, 2004, 06:24:27 AM How low will America sink?

Title: Re: Hooray for American universities! Post by: Sauza12 on November 04, 2004, 07:05:11 AM I....just......can't :-/
Title: Re: Hooray for American universities! Post by: Lord Nepenthean on November 04, 2004, 08:10:30 AM My mouth dropped open and my tongue rolled out like in the cartoons when I read that. I had to read the title of the article about five times to make sure I wasn't reading it wrong. What disturbs me most is that is at Syracuse...... They're supposed to be the cream of the crop.
Title: Re: Hooray for American universities! Post by: Arrrhalomynn on November 04, 2004, 08:42:44 AM And to put things into perspective, this is the monster herself:

Its just like when the school in Wisconsin (I think) tried to make Ebonics a foreign language.
Title: Re: Hooray for American universities! Post by: Tynstar on November 04, 2004, 10:40:59 AM Since she is going to school maybe she will learn how to dress.
And Ebonics does sound like a foreign language. Title: Re: Hooray for American universities! Post by: Izret101 on November 04, 2004, 12:27:14 PM That is retarded. I hope that school crudentals from this point forward go down the toilet.
About what Freak said it was being argued eubonics should be taught as another REAL language because it was spoken by slaves for 200+ years. Also for all your ghetto and eubonics needs. www.urbandictionary.com Title: Re: Hooray for American universities! Post by: Hydrobond on November 04, 2004, 02:25:31 PM Yes indeed, go America!

Post by: Arrrhalomynn on November 04, 2004, 02:35:50 PM I bet Harvard doesn't have a course on Lil' Kim.
Title: Re: Hooray for American universities! Post by: Izret101 on November 04, 2004, 02:47:14 PM I wouldn't trust that list to closely it has three #48's. Although it is very impressive that the US owns so many of those slots.
Title: Re: Hooray for American universities! Post by: Arrrhalomynn on November 04, 2004, 02:55:58 PM there are 3 48's, because they have the same score.
And though it's impressive, it's mainly a money thing. The top universities are the richest and most expensive ones. They're like magnets for smart students, smart scientists and sophisticated businesses. Something most European Countries can't compete with, because they don't have private universities. By the way, number 39 is mine :p Title: Re: Hooray for American universities! Post by: Hydrobond on November 04, 2004, 03:02:09 PM A good argument, but there are also quite a few state universities on the list from the US.  4,13,16-20 and so on are all public schools.  I wish my school was on the list, sadly we are really only good at one thing, engineering.
Also, I believe there are more schools here per capita than most places, so we have the ability to have some not so ordinary courses. Also, this fact allows a lot of stupid to go to college here, which is a good thing in some ways, but allows for things like this. O, and congrats on #39. Title: Re: Hooray for American universities! Post by: Izret101 on November 04, 2004, 03:02:38 PM Ok that makes sense with the three 43s.
It is more impressive that you are going to a top 40 school though than the US having that many spots. The first college i plan on going to is STCC or Springfield Technical Community College. Cheap to get mandatory classes out of the way and it will be a good stepping point. And i know they do not teach anything about Lil Kims lyrics there so thats a bonus. Title: Re: Hooray for American universities! Post by: sinning.dragon on November 05, 2004, 07:03:17 AM Do people really have loyalty to their colleges? Just curious, because I absolutely hate mine and I almost wish it would fall into the sea. Then again, if the mascot wasn't a "penguin", I probably wouldn't wish its demise so badly..
Title: Re: Hooray for American universities! Post by: Hydrobond on November 05, 2004, 09:04:23 AM I like my school, but hate its location.  I would be perfectly happy with it if it were in Cincinnati, or at least less than an hour away.  This school would greately benefit from being in a large city, and it would save me a lot of money if it were in Ohio.  But other than the location, I have no major qualms with the school, except it seems to be the only school in which legally drinking in the dorms is not allowed. Oh, and I stumbled upon this, if anyone is interested: http://www.shannonigans.com/purdue/ Cary Quad is my dorm, fyi. Title: Re: Hooray for American universities! Not me, I just went to mine because it's closest. I guess people that pay a lot for their university are more loyal. If only not to look silly for paying that much. |
