Title: My biggest single day in a while
Post by: Sauza12 on November 08, 2004, 06:41:12 AM
Well, this last Saturday was VERY good to me.  In the morning I went to a flea market and got the following for $50

A boxed Magnavox Odyssey 2 with all system documentation
Alien Invaders - plus! - complete
Armored Encounter/SubChase - complete
Baseball! - complete
Blockout/Breakdown! - complete
Bowling/Basketball! - complete
Freedom Fighters! - complete
K.C. Munchkin! - complete
Monkeyshines! - complete
Pick Axe Pete! - complete
Speedway/Spinout/Cryptologic! - complete
UFO! - complete
War of Nerves! - complete

Everything in the above lot is in absolutley perfect condition.

Later on that day, I went to EB Games with one of my friends who was trading in some games for Halo 2.  When I got there I found
Vegas Stakes (SNES) - Sealed
Space Invaders (SNES) - sealed
Tetris & Dr. Mario (SNES) - sealed

The total for those games?  13 bucks.  But it doesn't end there.

One of the games that my friend was trading in was Xenogears.  They were only offering him $10 for it, so he asked me if I wanted it for 15, which I of course accepted.  So for the day I ended up with a new boxed system and 16 games.  I haven't found this many games on the same day since Gamestop stopped accepting 16 bit games.

That was definately an awesome haul.

What is the deal with this Vegas Stakes game? I have heard it mentioned in qa few places by a few people but never picked it up because i know nothing about it.

Other than it's a gambling game, I don't know anything about it either.  I just picked it up because it was sealed and they only wanted $2 for it.  Eventually I'm going to go out and buy some loose copies of the sealed games I bought so I can play them.  Once I do that, I'll let you know.  ;)

Open the sealed one!!

OK I am joking. I have a sealed Atlantis and Demon Attack for the Odyssey 2 I would not open. BUt I have opened sealed common games.

I have a sealed copy of Rex Ronan: Experimental Surgeon.  I was so excited when I got it that I built an underground lair to protect it from the thousands of burglars I knew would show up at my house upon hearing the news of what I now owned.

Thank goodness it is still safe.

OPEN THE GAMES  >:-)

Nah, but really, that's what they're for.

Yeah, I normally don't collect sealed games unless I either already have a loose copy of it somewhere or it's a game I don't think that I will play much.  The games I got are all common, so I won't have a problem finding them loose for cheap which is why I bought them.  That and I'm always hoping that some insane sealed game collector will offer me huge amounts of money for them.  |D

I hate hearing that people will buy a sealed game then open it.
If you don't want it just turn around and sell it for a profit. There are plenty of people who would like to have sealed games in there collection (like me).

I have opened many sealed games!!!!!  :P

Yeah, the good thing about buying sealed game is that you're the one that opens it. No use having a game you can't play.

Dont tell me it was anything pre SNES that you opened. Even pre-Playstation is bad enough.

Saturn is pre-playstation. And a jaguar game. For the rest only new games. Mostly dreamcast.

OK I won't tell you about the pre-SNES games I opened.

Honestly the way i see it is there are enough copies out there that you can buy a complete or even loose copy and save the sealed ones for hardcore collectors who try to get as much as they can sealed.
There are so many alternatives to opening it.
Why not just sell it to someone and take that money and buy a loose copy because it will be worth less than the sealed.

It is kind of a pet peeve of mine. Even worse is when i hear about people who just throw away their boxes and instuctions because they waste space.

Some what back to topic, how many O2 games are there?

49 O2 games total.

I need to more to have the intire library . Also need 2 more manuals and 2 boxes to have all of them CIB.

There are also two homebrew games and one demo of pinball that was given away by Ralph Baer himself, so including those, there are a total of 52 (although I don't count the demo.  I consider it just that...a demo and not a true release).

I don't consider the homebrews as part of the library. But thats just me.

I only count the releases from back in the day as part of the O2 library. So 49 by my count.

It made sense in the first place, I was just using a line from Chapelle's show.   ;)

I've opened about 35 sealed Atari 2600 games. Hey, I bought them to play them. None were rare, just the common stuff like Pac-Man and Pitfall. I did keep all the boxes and manuals for a while but once I got one of those plastic game & system cases I just tossed them. Besides, who needs a manual to figure out how to play Space Invaders or Asteroids?
