Title: Directions for Capturing Screen Shots
Post by: Crabmaster2000 on April 29, 2008, 11:04:30 AM
I was wondering if anyone who is more technologically advanced then myself could put up some simple directions for me to capture screen shots from my game collection. I'd like to help by adding them to the sites database but have no idea how to go about this. If you need any information from my end please post it here or PM me and ill do my best to respond quickly. Thanks in advance guys.

Do you have a video capture device for your pc? You need one of those. It's either that or use an emulator and grab screenshots from there.

I dont have any sort of video capturing equipment so I'd need a shopping list from someone regarding what I would need to purchase in terms of hardware and also any software required.

Knowing what system(s) you want to take game screenshots from would help.

NES and PS1 in particular but eventually everything (mainstream consoles) in between.

Then you'd seriously be better off using emulators, it's easier and certaintly cheaper.

If you've got a good digital camera you could always use that. What system are you trying to capture? It probably wont set you back much, just a PCI capture card, and a S-Video out for your system and you won't have any problem.

Thanks cobra. What kind of software would I need to capture the video/screenshots? or would the software generally come with a PCI capture card?

What about capturing newer systems via component/composite cables?

The software will come bundled with the card. As for different types of connections, you'll have to check, but I would say pretty much any connection other than HD and RF will be supported.

My Hauppauge WinTV HVR-1100 is an analogue/digital hybrid card. It has RF Analogue/RF Digital, Composite, and SVideo. You will need a card with software encoding as oppposed to hardware encoding to reduce the delay.

The software that came with it was crap but I went on the Hauppauge website and found some updated software. It's still not great but to be honest I haven't found anything particularly better. There is loads of freeware TV software.

Capturing screen shots? Have you tried using a screen shot ball?

(P.S. I'm really sorry about that one!)
