Title: lots of busted systems Post by: Chainclaw on May 01, 2008, 09:35:53 PM There's this awesome local store for me that bought a huge collection this last weekend, called AMAZING_HEROES. The guy gave me his box of broken systems, which included these :
Here's some pictures of the broken systems : 5200, Atari 1200 XL, Intellivision, Colecovision x2, TI-994A 5 broken 2600s I also bought a 7800 with a handful of games (for $30), and a Fairchild Channel F (for $10), which unfortunately did not have any games. He had some other crazy stuff in stock, like Rubik's Cube for the 2600. Here's those two systems : Anyone know where I can find good resources on fixing up old systems? Anyone know where I can find some Fairchild Channel F games? Title: Re: lots of busted systems Post by: NES_Rules on May 02, 2008, 09:55:38 AM Nice haul!
If you want to get those systems working, the first thing you should do is take them apart, give them a good cleaning, and then check for loose/broken solder points. That usually cures 90% of broken systems with no moving parts. Title: Re: lots of busted systems Post by: BadEnoughDude on May 02, 2008, 10:12:31 AM Nice haul, dude! Good luck getting those babies working. I'll second what NES_Rules said - take them apart and give them a good cleaning. Heat up a soldering iron and just fiddle around. If you can get those 2600's working, you could make yourself a pretty nice profit. Good luck!

Title: Re: lots of busted systems Post by: Chainclaw on May 02, 2008, 08:26:20 PM Thanks guys! I went back to that store today and traded a copy of Alundra and Alundra 2, along with some ultra common NES games for a working 5200 and 9 games.
I did some research on the Channel F, and found it had games built in, so I booted that up and played some pong variation. Before this, I had not really touched the non-mainstream '80s and '70s systems. Pretty awesome stuff. I'm tempted to try a Channel F homebrew. edit: I went about testing the 2600 systems today. Two of the five systems worked FLAWLESSLY, a third worked poorly, and the other two didn't work at all. Oddly enough, my old "working" system would not work, the signal was just no good. I think one of the two working systems might be a heavy sixer, but I'm not sure. I was going to check on Atari Age, but that forum is locked down and my account is still activating. Anyone here want to help, here's some pics (next to a standard 2600). Turns out the broken 5200 works fine, as well. If I had the cables and some games for the Colecovisions and Intellivisions, I would not be surprised if they worked. |
