Genesis and Saturn. Title: Re: THE BEST SYSTEM EVER! Round 2! SEGA Consoles!!!! Post by: RegalSin on July 15, 2008, 05:07:14 AM Well I picked the Saturn since it was the last real system other then Sega's Dreamcast which slowly faded out. I mean the Saturn finally was up to par with the SNES and the 3d was far ahead of even the PS3 today. It had true Netplay, internet service, and the games was so creatively fun and reatively fun to play.
I wanted to say the Genesis as the second chioce but SEGA never beleive the Genesis could out do the SNES and in fact it was meant for the NES oriignally. A buyer would have to spend like 700 in total or more to have a complete Sega up to the Saturn stage. The Genesis was a good system that represents everything the 80's and early 90's was but not even 1995 that system was dead where Sega moved on to the Saturn in 1993. What is even sadder is how the Saturn failed misrealbly in the US dew to selective chioce games and all they needed was a Final Fantasy on it like the PSX to get anything going. I have said before while I am a US citizen who is proud to be in this country we have no creativity in this god auwful waste land we call Amerika. I mean everytime something new comes out the entire USA goes bannanas while heartland Amerika stays the same the coastal cities along with Chicago changes rapidly. We was so high on Final Fantasy and 3d that nobody took a look around and said oh those westerners like RPG like us, I guess they have some sorta taste. While that was going on in Japan along with all the other creative stuff we got commercial crap on crap. The Genesis could have been around for alot longer but SEGA was trying to corner the market even in South Amerika and other places where games was less spread. Like for example today where a Inidan man said hey a 360 is worst then a PS2 on a regular TV screen why should I get something I could not afford. Which brings me to my second answer. The Master System. STILL being marketed in lesser countries around the world and to be honest has really nice graphices for a 16-bit system. Yes the MS was a 16-bitter that had arcade like graphics as with the genesis but only, this system had sound like dime. I mean the NES could have FM sound but oh man this was ssoo goo. Then what is even nicer is the games ( while the PCE did better ) they had wonderfull looks and I am not going into the game gear bit. Sega had a 16-bit system they just had to enhance it a bit. What we got ( the westerners ) was Sonic Sonic Sonic and that is about it. Everything else was boring to the bone or ports from the SNES. While there was many hits for the Genesis the Master System is still going all over the world and is still remains to have that dash board look. What is even nicer is how the system was a TV plug in game at the same time. The Saturn was the answer to the SNES/ SNES CD ( PSX) problem and the Master Sys tem was a 16-bit system but support was dropped for the Genesis . While the Genesis was a beast it never outdid the SNES on a global scale. It might have the ability to do more stand alone but the SNES could do just the same but twice as fast. I like the Genesis usage of 16-bit fast games and higher resolution meaning more detailed images but the SNES could do the same and nobody would care the differ. What is even sadder about the Genesis compared to the SNES is how Street Fighter II was never ported correctly but the X-band version which was the worst one but had Cammy Lee to make it all better. I mean the Sprites are the exact same size as it was on the SNES system but now at a higher resulotion. Title: Re: THE BEST SYSTEM EVER! Round 2! SEGA Consoles!!!! Post by: NESman93 on July 15, 2008, 09:46:07 AM I went with the Genesis and the Sega Pico.
The genesis is one of my favorite gaming systems of all time. I dont have many games for mine but it still kicks ass. The Pico is one that i had when i was younger, and i really liked it. I want to track one down someday. Title: Re: THE BEST SYSTEM EVER! Round 2! SEGA Consoles!!!! Post by: James on July 15, 2008, 09:55:01 AM ...The Master System was 8-bit.
I chose the Master System and Mega Drive. I think the Master System was much better than the NES (*fanboy alert*) - more colourful, easier to collect, more reliable. I grew up with a Mega Drive, so of course it's going to be near the top for me. It may not have the colours of a SNES or as many controls (ignoring the little used 6-button controller) but it had enough good games to grab me. Title: Re: THE BEST SYSTEM EVER! Round 2! The Master System was a 8-bit console, but had a slight edge on graphics and audio over the NES. How ever, in South America, most notably Brazil, the Master System is still in production today. Just recently, in 2006, a hand held SMS came on the market there. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sega_Master_System This may solve some confusions on the 8-bit, 16-bit SMS debate. And if you think Wikipedia is fake, the do a little research on other video game sites. I personally voted the Genesis, 'cause it is awesome, and the SCD. The Sega Cd was not necessarily the best system out of that bunch, but the whole "CD" idea was a new technology at the time. AND (!) there are quite a few great games for the console. End Rant, goto line 1 :) Title: Re: THE BEST SYSTEM EVER! Round 2! SEGA Consoles!!!! Post by: RegalSin on July 16, 2008, 01:44:37 AM The Master System was a 16-bit system that barely had any support. Most games was SEGA to begin with. If you check it out you will see the system is too able to do what the SNES and even genesis did.
It was originally a Sega Game 1000 that was upgraded like three to four times inculding add on devices. Alot of people don't realize that some the games released was really SG-1000 games. About sources saying it is 8-bit when games like Y's beg to differ. Look at it from another perspective. It was the most weakest link of 16-bit stand alone system compared to the PC98, MSX, PCE, Genesis, and even the SNES ( that surpass 32-bit standards ). The Master System could have had a chance to really shine but there was sooo many other choices that did the job ten times as better. SEGA sealed it's fate dropping support extremly quicky but at the same time gave it another chance to shine. The GameGear which was give partitialy reverse support for the Mega Drive. IF Sega was to revive that today maybe we would see more Master System goodness. While 8-bit systems like the NES, 5200 and others did have games with high amounts of coloring in them they never ever surpassed the Master System. Show me one other 8-bit system game that looked and out did the Master System/ Game Gear. The only other one I could think of is the Gameboy color or maybe even the Atari Lynx. You might be thinking of the colour pallette. Title: Re: THE BEST SYSTEM EVER! Round 2! SEGA Consoles!!!! Post by: RegalSin on July 16, 2008, 01:09:45 PM Your just saying that since you want to think the Genesis was a achievement in it's arcutect when it was overkill for the most part.
Title: Re: THE BEST SYSTEM EVER! Round 2! SEGA Consoles!!!! Post by: James on July 16, 2008, 01:44:55 PM I'm saying that because it physically had an 8-bit processor. ??? On what basis are you saying it's 16-bit? What's your evidence to show it had a 16-bit processor, other than some games looked pretty?

Post by: logical123 on July 16, 2008, 01:49:32 PM Your just saying that since you want to think the Genesis was a achievement in it's arcutect when it was overkill for the most part. What? First off, the Genesis/Mega Drive was an achievement at the time. In 1989, the Genesis was incredibly powerful. And I have no idea what the word 'arcutect' means. Do you mean 'architecture'? If so, are you talking about its physical motherboard architecture? And believe us, the SMS was an 8-bit system!! It's color palate was a bit more advanced than the NES, but not by much. The sound processor was defiantly more powerful than the NES though. You are losing a one-man-battle if you continue to say that the SMS was 16-bit. It wasn't. End of Discussion. Title: Re: THE BEST SYSTEM EVER! Round 2! SEGA Consoles!!!! Post by: Tan on July 16, 2008, 11:40:05 PM Darrggg I had a really big comment otherwise.... The SMS is a 16-bit system from foot to toe. Think of it like the SNES which is really a lesser 32-bit system. Here, let me settle this once and for all. the Sega Master System uses an 8-bit Zilog Z80 as it's CPU. The same CPU used in the SG-1000, ColecoVision, Game Gear, Game Boy, Amstrad CPC, MSX, TRS-80, ZX Spectrum and dozens of others. While no where even close to having the power of a 16 bit system, it was used in the Genesis/Mega Drive as a co-processor for audio, think of it as a "little helper" in the Genesis nothing more. To touch on an earlier comment, the SNES is not a "lesser 32-bit system". Most of the games that were innovative in graphics or physics or sound, had custom made chips added into the cartridges to assist the unit's capabilities. There's over a dozen different types of custom chips that were added to carts, they made games like Starfox, Super Mario RPG, Mario Kart, Doom, Pilotwings, Mega Man X etc. possible. No different in function than say a 32x or the SVP chip that was added to the Genesis version of Virtua Racing. That doesn't make the system more than what it is, no more than a 512 meg vid card matched with 512 ram give you a 1gig desktop. :P Title: Re: THE BEST SYSTEM EVER! Round 2! SEGA Consoles!!!! Title: Re: THE BEST SYSTEM EVER! Round 2! SEGA Consoles!!!! Post by: logical123 on July 17, 2008, 12:03:18 AM Thanks Tan, but I'm not sure that this will settle it... ::)
Title: Re: THE BEST SYSTEM EVER! Round 2! SEGA Consoles!!!! Post by: James on July 17, 2008, 01:39:14 AM Here, let me settle this once and for all. the Quote Sega Master System uses an 8-bit Zilog Z80 as it's CPU. One proccessor does not define a system. That is only one compenent of a system. There is many other varibles. There is no way for anybody to build a system using one stand only chip. However in CPU emulation as with the PS2 and even the one chip NES has proven differ. So please explain why the Mega Drive, with its 16-bit processor, has "16 bit" engraved on it. Quote the SNES is not a "lesser 32-bit system". Yes it is. Please, please, please come up with some facts to back that up. Just because games look nice, doesn't mean they have hardware better than they actually do. How old are you? You're arguing like a child. I might even go so far as to say you're trolling. Title: Re: THE BEST SYSTEM EVER! Round 2! SEGA Consoles!!!! Post by: logical123 on July 17, 2008, 11:51:03 AM *Sigh*
I didn't want the arguing to continue, but if idiocy continues, let the arguing continue as well... :'( Title: Re: THE BEST SYSTEM EVER! Round 2! SEGA Consoles!!!! Round 2! SEGA Consoles!!!! Post by: Cobra on July 21, 2008, 04:08:49 AM While not a hit in North America or Japan, the MS dominated other parts of the world.
We should of recruited some Brazilian members before doing this poll, as the Master System is still a great seller over there with yet another new model. Not to mention it was still getting new games until 2005 over there last time I checked. But with the latest Master System having 131 built-in games now, I would say perhaps still making games now too.
