Yeah, that thing is freaking awesome! It's coming to the US as well.

You got to look at the demonstration of it that was on the 1up Show a few weeks ago. It was ASTONISHING!

its a synthesizer and music sequencer. basically you can make music with it. korg is a major electronic instrument company and for them to make a crossover like this without it just being half assed software with their name slapped on it is a big deal.

So let me get this striaght. There is like at least five to ten differnt music makers for the Gameboy. GBC, and GBA .

More importantly

Amiga
Windows
MSX

now somebody made one for NDS........and it cost 60+ dollars.....

Do you really care ???

It's only $60 because it's an import right now, but it's going to arrive overseas where it should cost less.
My excitement comes from the fact that I can get a little bit of KORG goodness without paying tons.

RegalSin:

The difference in this case is that this game is made partly by one of the most established electronic instrument makers and actually brings the power of what would normally be probably a $500-$1000 minimum piece of hard ware to your hands in a portable fashion at a reasonable price. As far as I know nothing has been near this quality in terms of console music software.

I forgot to add, even for profession softsynths of a similar quality you end up paying $100-300 on average and thats before you factor even professional sequencing software like protools, ableton live or fruity loops.

I dont get where all the anger is coming from.  The closest thing we've had like this was stuff on PC and PS2.  Even then, the PS2 didnt offer all that great of options.  The PC stuff offered a hell of alot but as it was profesional grade software, tended to cost an ass load.  Even the lower end hacked versions would run 200-300.  I'm no musician but I see where this has the potential to serve a greater purpose then some rinky trinket a bunch of wanabies play around with to boost their tiny ego into thinking they are somehow real musicians.

Yes, this does look cool. The fact that you can do it on a handheld definately is a plus.

However it's not THAT special from a musician's point of view (I'm an enthusiastic amateur musician myself) because it's basically just a software synth with it's only limitation the hardware that it's running on. A DS is definitely strong enough to support such a synth.
I do love the fact that they've bothered to make the touchscreen of the DS into a KAOSS pad (which exists as a seperate little device from KORG aswell)

But I think this will appeal more on gamers who are not into music(-making) because it's like a whole new world opening for them; while a musician-gamer will already know this type of software exists.

But the idea of doing it for a handheld alone is worth applause for KORG!  :P (I'm more of a Yamaha guy though :))

Decided to just quote Sirgin as what he said pretty much hit the nail on the head.

There is already a lot of music software out there, some worse, some better, some even free.

The real icing on the cake is its portability. It is even more portable that a MacBook Air on a DS :)

Yes, exactly.
Because I (kind of) know what software synths and VST's are on the market, this game doesn't impress me THAT much. (Since there's tons of software/hardware that can do the same. )

But yeah, it sure is portable :P
