If only it had a longer battery time.
Title: Re: DS Vs. PSP - Announced Games & Prices Post by: Izret101 on November 22, 2004, 04:42:19 AM @ Anti Asphalt Urban GT is already out and Pictochat is not a game.
@ Arrr Don't worry you know they are going to(or at least damn well should) release a new battery in the future. There is no way they are going to lose because of a battery. Title: Re: DS Vs. PSP - Announced Games & Prices Post by: Arrrhalomynn on November 22, 2004, 04:56:47 AM Yeah, they might do that, but how much longer would that make the battery life? Even if they get a 100% improvement it'll still only be 4 hours. If only they made it so you could use regular batteries in it. At least you can replace those much easier yourself.
Title: Re: DS Vs. PSP - Announced Games & Prices Post by: Zimbacca on November 22, 2004, 07:38:42 AM I heard some where (Newsweek I think) that the PSP's battery life will last for quite a while when playing games, but is cut to 3 hours when watching movies.
Title: Re: DS Vs. PSP - Announced Games & Prices Post by: Sauza12 on November 22, 2004, 09:28:23 AM Wow, I definatley think the PSP wins out. :o
There really aren't any games in the DS launch that I want that much. Title: Re: DS Vs. PSP - Announced Games & Prices Post by: Sureshot on November 22, 2004, 09:32:04 AM Quote I heard some where (Newsweek I think) that the PSP's battery life will last for quite a while when playing games, but is cut to 3 hours when watching movies. Remind me not to watch 'The Cure For Insomnia' on one :P Title: Re: DS Vs. PSP - Announced Games & Prices Post by: Izret101 on November 22, 2004, 10:34:37 AM The PSP final battery life was announced at 2 hours. It was speculated 6-7 hours gaming 3-4 hours movie.
Not positive on those original speculations though. Title: Re: DS Vs. PSP - Announced Games & Prices Post by: Lord Nepenthean on November 22, 2004, 12:07:03 PM That's worse than a Game Gear. Still, it does definitely win out over DS in terms of what games will be available. It is kind of sad that Nintendo can have two screens running and still beat out PSP in terms of battery life, though. Somebody ought to call up the people that designed the NGPC and get them working on a solution for PSP. That thing was announced at 40 hours on two AA batteries by SNK, but I have had mine run well over 50. Sure, it's not backlit, but that's still amazing.
@Sureshot - You don't actually have that movie, do you? I've been looking for it for ages. Title: Re: DS Vs. PSP - Announced Games & Prices Post by: Odonadon on November 22, 2004, 10:30:26 PM Come on - how many of these PSP games have we not played already? I have to admit that FFVII: Advent Children and Ys: The Ark of Napishtim are reason enough for me to buy the PSP, I'm really not sure it will be that much (if any) better than the DS as a system.
I honestly think the DS touch screen is a stroke of marketting genious. Being an avid PDA user myself, I can't tell you how many times I wish I had gameboy control and quality on my Palm. Well, DS is the answer. This will have MASSIVE appeal to school kids - like cell phones and their games/ringtones/face plates did. Not only can you chat on it, play a ton of cool touch-screen wifi games on it, but it allows for incredible control. I was able to control my character in Metroid just as well as I could with a keyboard/mouse combo. I wasn't expecting that. I think Sony is banking on an old formula, and while it may do well at first, it won't have any lasting appeal. Like I've said before - Nintendo can out-game Sony. I'm just hoping Sony doesn't out-market Nintendo again. Could be VHS vs. Betamax (or Sega Genesis vs. TurboGrafx 16) all over again. OD Title: Re: DS Vs. PSP - Announced Games & Prices Post by: Arrrhalomynn on November 23, 2004, 02:18:02 AM One look at that release list however shows that the PSP will have about twice as many games available as the DS. Even if the DS would outgame the PSP quality wise (Which I doubt), the PSP would still win Quanitity wise, which is just as important if you want to sell something.
Title: Re: DS Vs. PSP - Announced Games & Prices Post by: Izret101 on November 23, 2004, 04:02:49 AM Did anyone else realize that the new handhelds just stole ideas from hanhelds that all died?
Game.com- Stylus N-Gage- Wireless GameGear- shit battery life Anyways Sony is probably going to win this one too. They have the ability to churn out TONS of decent titles and i just givesa much wider array of games to appeal to a larger market. Compare the N64 and PS library, compare the GCN and the PS2 library. And i in the future i will be saying compare the DS and PSP library. Nintendo has some solid games but just can't hold up against Sony like it could Sega. Plus they no longer control 75% of the market and developers. Title: Re: DS Vs. PSP - Announced Games & Prices Post by: Izret101 on November 23, 2004, 12:18:44 PM I just found out something pretty cool today. When you are near someone with a multiplayer game you can temperarily download a complete copy of that game to the systems memory so you can play.
Title: Re: DS Vs. PSP - Announced Games & Prices Post by: Odonadon on November 23, 2004, 03:21:39 PM I think it's also pretty important to keep in mind that the hand held gaming market is not necessarily the same as the console buyer market. I think Sony is making a mistake - I'm willing to wager the PSP will end up like the other systems made by big-name companies who tried to enter the portable market, but got crushed by Nintendo.
OD Title: Re: DS Vs. PSP - Announced Games & Prices Post by: danvx6 on November 26, 2004, 09:59:37 PM that feature sounds really cool, granted there are people that own the ds near you. if it succeeds in the first year i'll get one rrather than wasting money on a system that everyone thinks will do poorly
