Title: Question for people who have liquidated large collections... Post by: BadEnoughDude on August 17, 2008, 06:31:32 PM As I have mentioned here a lot over the past month or so, I have been thinking a lot about selling off a large portion of my collection. It takes up too much space, and I just don't have the time or ambition to play video games much anymore. Not to mention, I'd like to spend some time living in various parts of the country and having a collection as large as mine isn't ideal for moving frequently.
My questions is simple: What do you think my collection is worth? A ballpark estimate is all I'm really looking for. Everything I have is cataloged here, and you can sort of form an idea of the condition of many items from the photos on my profile page. I'd really like to hear from people who have gotten rid of larger collections. Obviously mine isn't is big as some of the other people here, but I'm sitting around 900 games and around 40 systems, duplicates included. Thanks a lot guys. Games: $3200 Total: Approximately $5000 The price for the games was compiled using averages. If you take the games that are outside of those averages and sell them separate, then sell the other stuff in lots, the value of the games could be in the $3750-6000 range. Title: Re: Question for people who have liquidated large collections... Post by: BadEnoughDude on August 17, 2008, 08:46:24 PM $5,000 is pretty much my threshold. If the consensus is that it's worth more than that, I'd be much more okay with selling it.
I do think that I would break things up into lots to drive up prices. I don't know how big the lots would be. More than likely, the rare/valuable games would be sold separately and the commons in 10-20 game lots, some with systems. Title: Re: Question for people who have liquidated large collections... Post by: Sirgin on August 18, 2008, 07:40:49 AM I'd do that too. While it might be "easy" to find a buyer with the financial means to buy your entire collection; because it would be an enormous lot, you'll have to make him a deal on it and you'll end up with much less money.
If you can take the time to sell it in smaller lots, please do so. You'll get much more money for seperate games (or lots of 5-8 games) than selling 700 games at once.:) Best thing to do would be selling every item seperately (you'll end up with more than twice the money than selling your entire collection) but that's pretty much impossible with such a big collection. The common games usually never sell for high prices anyway, and bundling them with consoles will help to get rid of them. And of course, those rarer ones will do just fine by themselves. |
