Title: Re: Call of Duty: World at War OPEN BETA! Post by: Tondog on November 06, 2008, 12:02:50 PM I highly doubt they can replicate the magic of CoD4.
Title: Re: Call of Duty: World at War OPEN BETA! Post by: Sirgin on November 06, 2008, 01:30:44 PM I highly doubt they can replicate the magic of CoD4. Yeah, this one is developed by Treyarch, the "lesser" of the 2 CoD developing studios. Also, it's back to WWII; which is so over-used by now it's getting almost rediculous. Title: Re: Call of Duty: World at War OPEN BETA! Post by: phoenix1967 on November 06, 2008, 02:13:39 PM I still haven't played CoD4. :-\ One of these days I'll pick up the GOTY edition.
Title: Re: Call of Duty: World at War OPEN BETA! Post by: The Metamorphosing Leon on November 06, 2008, 02:37:15 PM It looks exactly like CoD4. It will probably be a fine game, just extremely similar to its predecessor, which may or may not be a good thing depending on if you're sick of 4 like I got.
Title: Re: Call of Duty: World at War OPEN BETA! Post by: The Metamorphosing Leon on November 07, 2008, 01:37:54 PM Let me modify that. By all accounts it looks like CoD4 but is awful.
Title: Re: Call of Duty: World at War OPEN BETA! Post by: phoenix1967 on November 07, 2008, 03:37:36 PM The demo didn't seem that bad to me. But then again, I've never played CoD4 in the first place.
I'm still predicting that CoD:WaW will get review scores mostly in the 8.5-9.0 range. Title: Re: Call of Duty: World at War OPEN BETA! Post by: Sirgin on November 07, 2008, 07:27:42 PM Launch trailer - pretty strange music choice for a WWII shooter...but maybe that's just me. :P

EDIT: Oh, and you are right. It's a terrible song choice for a game like this... Title: Re: Call of Duty: World at War OPEN BETA! Post by: Sirgin on November 07, 2008, 07:47:57 PM Is that an Alice in Chains song?! What the hell song is it? Yeah, I found it to be completely out of place. It also makes WWII seems like one mindless killing spree, which it obviously wasn't.EDIT: Oh, and you are right. It's a terrible song choice for a game like this... I find COD4 amazing. Like, O.O amazing. Pick it up, if you have the chance. Title: Re: Call of Duty: World at War OPEN BETA! They could just not set it during WWII instead of soiling the importance of what that war was all about... Of course, that's just the vibe from the trailer. The game itself may be completely different. Title: Re: Call of Duty: World at War OPEN BETA! Post by: The Metamorphosing Leon on November 07, 2008, 08:43:34 PM Has fire in it. Fire is usually not good.
Title: Re: Call of Duty: World at War OPEN BETA! Post by: Tan on November 08, 2008, 01:53:20 AM I still haven't played CoD4. :-\ One of these days I'll pick up the GOTY edition. I find COD4 amazing. Like, O.O amazing. Pick it up, if you have the chance. I had CoD4 when it was first released. Amazed at first, satisfied for an afternoon, then bored of it by the end of the weekend. While "technically" speaking, an awesome game with fine sound/graphics and all, the experience both SP and MP left me a bit wanting. I suppose it was the lack of history behind what I was doing, or the fact that WWI and WWII has a certain romanticism and charm that we've all grown up to believe in. I find the same thing with most of the Gulf War games since the 90's as well. Blame culture and the media for that one. I enjoyed CoD2 and 3 a lot more. Title: Re: Call of Duty: World at War OPEN BETA! Post by: Tondog on November 08, 2008, 11:17:46 AM You didn't get utterly addicted to leveling up your character in MP and getting all the perks? Impressive.
Title: Re: Call of Duty: World at War OPEN BETA! Post by: phoenix1967 on November 08, 2008, 01:38:40 PM I enjoyed CoD2 and 3 a lot more. Tan, did you ever play CoD 3 with system link. den68 and I have been trying to get it to work consistently with mixed results. It's not letting one 360 join the match set up on another 360 even though the option to do so is on the screen. It searches and searches and says it couldn't find it. And there's no problems with the system link cable because it works with other system linked games. Title: Re: Call of Duty: World at War OPEN BETA! Post by: Sirgin on November 08, 2008, 01:42:57 PM Of course, that's just the vibe from the trailer. The game itself may be completely different. Indeed. I really hope the actual gameplay features "normal" music, because having to listen to modern guitar music in a game that takes place in the 40ies just wouldn't do it for me.Title: Re: Call of Duty: World at War OPEN BETA! Post by: The Metamorphosing Leon on November 10, 2008, 01:17:18 PM I...errr, got an advance copy. ::)
The game is mildly entertaining, I'm sure Multiplayer will be fine. But it's not GoTY material by any means. The AI is sloppy--I watched one of my own men shoot at a wall away from the enemy for what would have probably been forever had he not been shot in the back--the level design is sloppy, the aiming seems off, wall piercing bullets seem to have been toned down (maybe realistically) from 4. It feels kind of like a crappy mod. |
