Nice collection Mike! Stupid question though, have you ever listened to the PacMan Christmas Album? Besides the Mario cake pan, that seems like the most obscure thing you have. :P

I have not listened to it. I don't know why I haven't, other than I'm imagining it will make my ears bleed.

Nice.  Really organized.  Some of those shelves seem like theyre starting to sag.

By the way, your photobucket album needs a password to see it, I think.

Yeah, some are sagging, I didn't have enough wood when I built them so I had to use thinner wood, but I've been slowly replacing them and doubling up others.
I forgot about the password for viewing, it's "NES_Rules"

Question: Are regular (1 disc) PS1 games in CD-sized cases in the US? (With CD size I mean as thick/high as a regular CD case is.)

They are exactly the same. Handy because you can buy generic jewel cases and strip them for parts if the front/backs are broken.

Ours are in thicker "PlayStation" jewel cases, similar to the Dreamcast cases. (Unless, of course, Dreamcast cases are thin over there, too)
They're about as thick as a NES cart, and are much harder to replace when broken. :-\

They take up twice as many room as yours, but look a bit better on a shelf (in my opinion)

Our Dreamcast cases are regular CD size as well. Like Tan said, it is definitely handy. I pick up empty music CD cases all the time at garage sales (people usually give them away) to replace broken or even heavily stickered cases.

The other advantage of course is that CD racks, entertainment center racks, swivel displays etc. can work just as well for games as they do music. So the options for displaying one's TG16, PS1, DC, PC etc. games are nearly unlimited.

Yeah, there's more advantages to having regular CD cases than the ones we have. I wonder why a company decides to package their games differently in Europe and the US, though.

European games had thicker manuals because of all the different languages.

I personally prefer the European PS1 cases, despite taking up more room and being impossible to replace without buying another PS1 game. Normal jewel cases seem a bit disposable. I'm not sure what I mean, the PS1 cases are just sort of more special.

Looks Great!!! That Mario cake pan is pretty sweet. Unique items like that really dress up the collection.

You might not like the thicker cases so much when your trying to find room for 200-300 of them. :P

The 64DD was kind of my inspiration for putting the N64 on top of the 3DO. And they fit together so well.

Your collection is brilliant. I myself would be very wary of those sagging shelves. :P

I'm not too worried, they're plywood so they got a lot of bending to do before they break :P
And if I flip them over, the bend is the other way so they're straight for a little while.

Why not add struts between shelves? Just slim pieces cut to length positioned under the worst of the bow in each shelf. You wouldn't even need to attach them. Like propping up a window but from the center instead of the side.

Like I said, I'm not worried about it. And the thin ones are just temporary until I get a hold of better wood.

I'm not sure about the name but it's definitely from Ikea. I love Ikea! :D I don't want to spend heaps on a storage unit and they look alright too.

Me too. I don't want to get into a furniture thing here, it's obviously not very manly :), but it looks like your game room is almost the same as mine. I use those cabinets too.

Nice set up man, looks great all around.  Personaly, I perfer the CD cases we got in the states as well but I gotta say, the euro cases look rather nice.  Specialy the DC cases.  Just wish they didnt break so easy.  My copy of Rez arived with all the odd parts of the case broke.  Sure, it plays just great but I know I'll never get another case for it.  Still, it's alot better then the Japanese cases.  I've got atleast 4 different types of cases for their stuff and not only are they not the same thickness, some aint even the same height.  Makes for a pain when your trying to stack them row upon row.

I've been gaming my entire life, but I didn't start collecting until 2006, about the time I joined this site.

Question: Why does your Genesis 32X have the spacer for the model 2 Genesis underneath? That's supposed to be un-needed for the model 1 Genesis.

So I don't lose it. It's not hooked up anyway, it's there more for viewing than playing.

Ah, makes sense. Just wondering how it remains stable. Then again I never tried it. I keep my spacers and metal plates in an accessory drawer. I never play mine either. In fact, I never play any of my consoles at all, which is a good thing. Good to see a fellow console preserver. I myself "preserve" my consoles as well.  ;)

I wouldn't call myself a "preserver" I just only have 1 32X game so I have need to have it hooked up. In fact, I don't think it even works, when I found it it was covered in mud and I've never tested it.

Hmm, do you have any of the necessary cables or just the unit itself? If you do try and test it and if still doesn't work... there's a chance that it can still work. The 32X tends to have it's ribbon cables loosened (there's two) even though they may seem well connected, which will prevent it from booting. If you do happen to be able to test it, let me know if it does or doesn't work. If needed when you open it, it's not a bad idea to use that time to clean the insides too when performing maintenance on it.

I have another one that is complete. looks new so that one most likely works. The one on "display" is kind of just there to demonstrate the add-ons for the Genesis.
I probably should test it out one of these days, but since I only have the one game for it, I haven't felt compelled to hook it all up.

All 3 (1 factory unopened) of my 32X's work 100% so my best bet is that the complete one you have up there would work no doubt. My Sega CD Model 1 has a broken fuse (from what I believe) so it won't boot at all but I bought it like that for 6 bucks just so I can display it at least. It just looks awesome underneath a model 1 Genesis.

Very nice man and looking at your old collection pics big improvement :) I really like the lego nintendo characters. I have seen one person do that before and im tempted to buy lego and do it myself i've never had lego so don't know how skilled id be at it :P are there any instruction sites or just going by your own sight?

I just looked at what others had done and copied it the best I could. For example, I used the Nintendo logo that Mezmoron did as a template for mine (his still looks better though). I tried making my own mushroom as I couldn't find one and it came out horrible, as I have zero artistic ability.
