Post by: Alabama-Shrimp on March 10, 2012, 11:49:04 AM
so have been going through all my stuff and found i have a limited edition Lucky Dime Caper on the Master System. i bouth it new about 20 years ago for about £10 (sem to remember it was cheaper then a normal one), i knew that they are quite expensive now so i put it in ebay and found this

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VERY-RARE-lucky-dime-caper-starring-donald-duck-limited-edition-box-set-/160744175184?pt=UK_PC_Video_Games_Video_Games_JS&hash=item256d197650

i cant belive it went for that much so, do i sell it, keep it or set it on fire and cackle like idiot?

I just did your submission for this game and my first thought was "there was a Limited Edition of this game!?"
I'd say sell it if you have no real connection to it (e.g. you don't really like the game) and you don't see yourself ever going for a complete Master System collection.
If its a game you like, either for its play factor or for nostalgic reasons, I wouldn't sell it. Chances are it will just get pricier as time goes on.

I would say sell, but only if it has no sentimental value to you.  Granted, it will probably increase in value over the years, but I'd be afraid that I'd lose it or something.

If I was after something in particular and was short of cash I would sell it, otherwise I would just hang on to it and let the value go up some more.

If you really like the game, I'd say sell and pick up a cheaper version. If it has some sort of emotional attachment, that is another story.

i wouldnt say it had any emotional value to me other than if i sold it i knew i would never have another one. in the end it might be one of those games that go down in value. like faselei i think i still have 3 somewhere that i didnt get round to selling, now they arent worth that much.

if i did sell it i know i would waste the money on a PSvita

I would hold onto it unless I really needed some quick cash for something important (like a medical emergency) or was offered and equally cool item in trade.

Then I'd say definitely don't sell it.

Ditto. Don't sell it! You'd only be angry at Sony later if you did that. 8)

i voted to sell, but i think i would only do that if it was something worth $500+, or i really didn't care about it. the only reason i would ever keep something that valuable would be the nostalgic reasons others mentioned and if i were going for a complete collection for that system.

Sounds like the price has gone up quite a bit in the past couple years. It's in large demand right now.

If you're going to sell, now would be the time. I would also try to get a posting on GameSniped if possible if you choose to sell, as well as mentioning it at the various Sega forums. However, please don't buy a Vita with it - at least wait for the price to inevitably fall.

/My vote would be to not sell.  I had to sell a bunch of items a few years ago, not quite as high priced as yours, but very rare (the preorder music CD for SOTH, mint strat guides for Earthbound).   The problem I face is that the price for getting some of those back is far too much, and in some cases (the SOTN music CD) impossible.  All I'm saying is that the money will be great, sure, but what will happen when you want to look at it?  Pick it up and look at the back of the box?

Huh, I have the SOTN preorder CD. Didn't realize it was worth much.

In early 2008 I sold it for about $50 on ebay.  The problem was that is was Gamestop/Funcoland preorder (I'm not sure if is was given out anywhere else) and the employees generally only handed them out to their friends and took the rest home.

I'd personally keep it around unless I needed the money. My wife, on the other hand, wouldn't hesitate to sell it...

I'd keep it. There's no reason to sell games like that and there might be a chance you'd want to buy it again in a few years time, at which point prices for this game could already double.

Some people always seem to sell and re-buy games a few years later, and it always ends up being much more expensive than just keeping your games.

I would keep it, but it also depends what system it is for. IF it was a Neo Geo cart I would sell it. If it was a Atari 2600 game I would keep it.

I think your confused. It should obviously be the other way around :P

Not at all. I would also sell a rare NES game before a 2600 game.

If it was a game I didn't really care about I'd definitely sell it.

I have to agree with Crabby. That thought makes me feel ill.

To me a CIB collection of 2600 games is more impressive then a CIB NES collection. The 2600 was also my first video game system.

Honestly, I agree with Scott on 2600 > NES. ;D
