SOMEONE SAY SOMETHING!

Makes 20 hour long podcast, 3 hours after release wonders why no one is talking about it.

I'm going to share my pile of shame on here.

Panzer Dragoon Saga: I've played about an hour of it to test it, am incredibly interested though. I'm right there with you Crabby in time its been on the shelf. BUT!!!! I have planned to play it after I get a copy of PDII Zwei so I can run through the trilogy.

Catherine: I've had this one for a few months and still haven't even fired it up. I don't know why since I love Atlus, probably just other games in my face right now.

Vagrant Story: I've never been the biggest fan of games set in Ivalice so this one's just been sitting on the shelf since I got it.

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner: Last game I needed for the PS2 SMT set, just been sitting on the shelf and looking awesome.

Arc the Lad Collection: One of the best box sets ever released, but I have played some Arc the Lad 1, just haven't beaten it. I was planning on moving on to 2 and 3 after beating the first.

Xenosaga III: I've never beaten II and I only fired this up to test it the day I bought it.

Super Mario 64: Never had a 64 until recently. Even when I bought my DS and it was everywhere I just had no interest.

Super Paper Mario: I picked it up cheap but haven't had a Wii for a couple years.

Shining Force II: Was wanting to beat the first one before I went into this one.

Knights in the Nightmare: I've played a little bit of this but the very beginning was about a solid 3 hour wall of tutorials. Never went back, later stuff looks interesting and I've read good things about it.

God Hand: I love Okami, why haven't I played this crazy looking brawler by the same developers?

Definitely don't play Xenosaga III before completing the first two.  Catherine is a pretty short game so that might help you move it up your list a bit.

I'd say Super Mario 64 is the must play on your list. Its such an important game.

Many of the other ones on your list are also on my list (I cut mine down a bit to save time and so that it wouldnt just be me blabbing). I'd love to go through SMT, God Hand, Arc the Lad and Knights in Nightmare eventually as well.

Good listen! Axe Battler should have been the show title. I laughed very hard at that part. I voted Crabby as the worst pile, based on: Panzer Dragoon Saga, Beyond Shadowgate, and Crusader of Centy.

My own pile of shame:

The biggest one (also my buddies) is that I still have not played any of the Arkham Batman games.
I own all three for PS3 and have never played any beyond a demo of Asylum before it was released

Ducktales 2- I was so pumped to add this game to my collection, and I told myself that I would play it as soon as I beat Ducktales Remastered...still need to beat the moon stage and on...So this one is kind of a double shame.

A lot of games on my pile of shame are games I have played very little of (less than an hour) and never picked up since. One of the big offenders of shame on my pile for that is:

Lords of Thunder- Probably the best side-scrolling shooter I own. It's freaking awesome and has a killer soundtrack. When I got it, I popped it in and couldn't figure out the right armor I needed for the stages I picked. Got my butt handed to me and put the game down. Haven't touched it since.

Another game in my collection that I kick myself for not having put much time into, and love the series, is Bioshock Infinite.

One game for PS2 that I own that I regret not having put any time into yet is Haunting Ground. I love the team that worked on RE4 and I believe they had something to do with this game. I love survival horror and I feel like I need to take this one on soon.

Speaking of Resident Evil, I bought RE6 on its release, played the first level. Turned it off. Havent touched it since. Need to play and finish.

Maybe I don't like survival horror as much as I think, because I haven't even touched my copy of Cursed Mountain for the Wii yet...

Another one for Wii that I have never played but own. This one is actually kind of shocking. Super Mario Galaxy 2.

The shame is overwhelming me. I will list two more and I am done.

For Genesis. I own but have only tested and not really played: Castlevania: Bloodlines and Contra: Hard Corps

You know, I really thought that gentlemen with collection sizes in relation to my own would have more games to be ashamed about.  My shame encompasses about sixty percent of my collection but also is flexible enough to stretch out and represent the MASSIVE amount of games that I want to play but do not own yet.  I guess it would be better if I was only into one or two platforms, but there a just so many games out there...  So exhausting to even thing about.  I guess it would be better if I wasn't just so nostalgic about games that I've already played (Silent Hill 2, Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, Super Metroid, etc.).  I've managed to remove most of my Famicom games from my "shame" list (playing them with my daughter), but Daiva and Child's Quest (all in Japanese with no script!) keep giving me strange looks whilst I play Three Dirty Dwarves.

You must not have seen the entire bunch of Forsaken ads...  When I worked at a game store they sent a special Forsaken calender that featured all the pics used in the ads.  Can't believe that these were actually in gaming magazines.

Arc the Lad Collection: One of the best box sets ever released, but I have played some Arc the Lad 1, just haven't beaten it. I was planning on moving on to 2 and 3 after beating the first.

While I do want to box again, I think I want to pick it up just to finish part 2.  No joke, the only console game that comes close to Baldur's Gate 2 in sheer amount of hours to finish.  I think it was only ten hours to finish part 1, though.

My response to the Padme vs. princess Leia debate:

Princess Leia is the only correct choice 'cuz she wasn't part of those gawdawful prequels. Well, not until the very end, anyway. Which wasn't her fault, 'cuz she was only 10 seconds old at the time. Anyone who feels otherwise should be locked up in a mental asylum along with the furries and Pokemon fanatics, never to see the light of day again. The last thing we need are these sick degenerates walking the earth, infecting the rest of the world with their depraved prequel fandom.

'Course, if they repent and take the Lord Portal Master Eon of the Skylands as their personal savior, then I might be swayed to forgive them their appalling transgressions...

UPDATE: Hey Duke, I just heard the commercial you narrated following the Facebook questions segment. I thought you did a pretty solid job of bein' a pitchman there. No over-the-top Billy Mays nonsense, which is good, 'cuz that crap annoys me.

Now, if you don't  mind me asking: did you do that all in one take? And if so, how many takes did you do before you got it just right? Did you have any creative input in the ad copy?

Thanks for noticing, Zag. I did what you heard in one take. I'd say I did it around 4 times before I got it the way I wanted it, which was without me screwing it up.

I didn't contribute to the ad writing, other than offering one small suggestion. They did a good job of writing it themselves. I hope it works for them and gives them some more traffic, both for their sake and in hopes they advertise again. It's expensive feeding a Crabmaster, you know.

What the hell is with the ad?

My shame list would be pretty much and really really good Xbox 360 game. Some because they take so long. Some because teh achievements suck so I haven't played it.

Yes, the ad.

The three of us volunteer our time. Duke more so than Crabby and myself because of the editing and the work of posting the show to multiple locations and managing those sites, but that is where the free-ness ends.  Hosting costs money.  Duke can speak to it better than I can since he manages the finances also, but the cost for hosting the podcast increases the more people that download it.  This is why older episodes are no longer available in locations that rely on a hosted file from us.

We are very grateful for the donations that people choose to give to the RFGeneration Collectorcast but we don't make enough in donations to cover the cost of hosting the show.

The decision to include an ad in the show was a tough one, but as long as the ads are relevant to our audience and not overly intrusive, we think that they are a minor price to pay for Duke not having to get a part time job teaching Excel to support the show.

I'd say Crabby has the worst pile of shame because he hasn't played Ni no Kuni. Tisk tisk!

Great episode and great topic, guys. This one was a lot of fun. I felt like I got to know you a little better and share in the shame with some of your selections.

My list is pretty bad, but here goes:

Bravely Default
Dead Space series (I want to play them all)
Secret of Mana
Illusion of Gaia
Super Mario RPG (never finished it because the cart's battery died)
Mass Effect trilogy
Uncharted 3
Final Fantasy 3/6

Bill play Black. - I started typing that immediately after you said Criterion. ;)

EDIT
Also worth noting it is relatively short. Almost positive it is an ~8 hour game.

I am completely happy if folks want to contribute more to pay the bills. Less work for me. In the mean time though, yeah, money.

Last 10-15 minutes of the show were hilarious. Every time something was said Crabby wanted to play the games less and less lol
Also one of the funniest "outtake" segments i can remember.

Since i sold off almost all of my older stuff my list is almost exclusively 360/PC releases.

Duke you might want to throw me into that poll...

Alan Wake series - I bought all the DLC for this and have the XBLA game and have not opened the LE i have or loaded the arcade one.
Batman Arkham series - sealed still
Bioshock series - I have ONLY done the online in Bioshock 2.
Command & Conquer series - I haven't played anything since Generals: Zero Hour.
Borderlands 2 - should be rectified in the near future
Castlevania: SotN - I bought the US and the JP versions on XBLA and haven't got past the first few screens in either.
Child of Eden - still sealed
Dark Souls - I bought the CE for this and the disc has never been in my system.
Darksiders series - Played enough to get the online achievement after it was patched.
Deadspace series - I have 1-3 and the XBLA game. The retails have never been in my system and the arcade has only about 15 minutes of gameplay.
Dragon Age series - Never been in my box.
Elder Scrolls 3, 4, 5 - I never finished Morrowind. Got hung up in Oblivion. Never played Skyrim.
Final Fantasy - I picked this up on my WP. I got a couple hours in and ended up sidetracked and never went back to it. (FF3JP is also on WP8 for 16$s i had 0 interest when i learned it was not FF3US)
Fallout series - Own them and i believe all DLC (might be missing one for NV). My brother has borrowed them from me and insisted i play them.
F.E.A.R. series - Started the online in one of them. I think 2 of them are still sealed.
Gunstringer - Bought all DLC game is still sealed.
Halo 3 ODST
LA Noire - again i bought all DLC and never even opened the game.
Mass Effect series - Never opened.
Rayman Origins - still sealed
Saints Row series - I played the first few minutes of the original one. It seemed decent from testing the JP version before i sold it. Hadn't even done that until relatively recently.
Wolfenstein series(classic and new ones) - I have the US and EU XBLA releases(unplayed) Wolfenstein(only online done), and New Order sealed.

I pretty much just had to stop listing games. I still have a slew of PS2/Xbox/GCN/PC stuff but i can't dig it all out to see what i still own and have neglected all these years. There are certainly games i have sold that should have been played before selling also.

I have recently been able to remove Halo: CEA and Left 4 Dead from my list. Both of which are almost completed for achievements. "Story" wise they are both completed on the highest difficulties.

Just listening now...

Dead Space 1 = Good
Dead Space 2 = Great
Dead Space 3 = Crap, but I finished it. The DLC ending was very wtf?

Alan Wake is a great game.

Dark Souls is a hard game to understand. Keep at it!

I have to agree with Duke Eternal Sonata is disappointing.

GTAV is worth playing through to the end.

No original Game Boy games?  >:(

Play Lufia 1 & 2 now!

Try the Typing of the Dead Overkill on steam: http://www.rfgeneration.com/cgi-bin/getinfo.pl?ID=W-194-S-24250-A

Forsaken plays very similar to Descent:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J_NDfJH58Zc

Crabby wins Pile of Shame for Ni No Kuni.

Thanks for another great episode!

My List:

Dragon Warrior 7 - I'm 101 hours in but I want to finish it.
The Last of Us - I've played a couple hours and need to finish it.
Pokemon Black - I'm near the end and want to finish at least one Pokemon game.
Dragon Warrior 2 - I'm at the end of the game I just need to finish it.
Shining Force 2 - Played it a couple hours and stopped. I was playing Dragon Quest VI at the time.
Armed for Battle - I tested the cart to make sure it works but I need play this game.

I agree with Crabby about Graveyard of the Fireflies. It is the most depressing movie I have ever seen.

Also Crabby is the only person to ever say they would rather play Mass Effect on the Wii U over the PS3 or 360.

Bil, your description of why the combat in Alan Wake is so satisfying was right on the money. Love Remedy. Love that game.

Eternal Sonata is one of my favorite games of all time. Crabby, when you get around to it, I think you'll like it. I'm into the bright colors and loud sounds as well, and playing Eternal Sonata is like playing slot machine that hits the jackpot on every pull.

I still have a way to go in the episode, just wanted to throw my thoughts out there before I forgot. Looking forward to sharing my pile here.

What you need to do is get people to buy the Wii add-on.....I meant Wii U. ( I watched the announcement at E3 a few years back everyone was confused). Then you need to get those people who bought it to buy games not made by Nintendo. I think the only people that bought the Wii U are fanboys and they only buy Nintendo games. :)

Post by: GrayGhost81 on August 21, 2014, 08:20:55 PM
Alright so before I share my pile of shame, just a few more comments on the rest of the show now that I've heard the whole thing.

I felt a little bit of shame when Duke, someone with a public voice whom I respect and look up to, promulgated the myth that the PS Vita "doesn't have any games." I have over thirty games on my Vita from Playstation Plus alone, and that's with having to have deleted a few for space. The Vita has more games than the 3DS, at least if you count all regions, which you can because the Vita is not region locked like the 3DS is. Duke, I think maybe what you wanted to say was that there are no games on Vita that interest you in particular, and it doesn't matter to me if you sell your Vita. It's your loss. It was just a shame to hear you pull the "Vita has no games" card.

As much as I love KOTOR, Jade Empire is better.

And now my pile of shame. I'm glad the collectorcast crew differentiated the pile of shame from the backlog. As collectors we all have ridiculous backlogs but I'm not ashamed of having yet to play Batman Arkham Origins.

My sentiments on the Hyperdimension Neptunia series would echo Crabby's exactly. I couldn't wait to get my hands on these games as they came but they never seem to be on the top of my list to play. Actually you could add pretty much any NIS or Aksys Anime RPG on the PS3 including Cross Edge, Mugen Souls, and Trinity Universe. I frequently claim to love these kinds of games but I have played very few from this generation.

I was actually thinking about writing a thread called "Series of which you own every game but have played none." But I think I can post a lot of them here. To be honest, Wind Waker was the first Zelda game I ever played and the first and only Final Fantasy game I have played to completion is the PS1 remake of the first one. So I guess you can say any other Zelda or Final Fantasy games are in my pile.

Other such series for me are Harvest Moon, Disgaea, Digimon World, Wild Arms, The "Xeno" games, and the entire Dot Hack series. I own all or most of the games in each of these series and haven't touched any of them.

Probably my biggest shame is having not played the original Silent Hill to completion. I played Silent Hill 2 and 3 to completion and loved them both. I tried pretty recently to play Silent Hill with my wife but there is an odd sound glitch when playing the disc on a PS3 so we stopped. We'll play it on our PS2 some day but it was just one of those things where we went to play it, found the sound glitch and said screw it.

Honorable mention to pretty much every Resident Evil game before RE4. I played a lot of RE2 and probably about two thirds of Code Veronica, but to be honest I've hardly touched 1 or 3 and haven't completed any of them.

Anyway great show guys. Awesome topic, good conversation. Keep up the good work!  :)

I've got 40 Vita games in my collection right now Ghost and I actually agree with Duke. Its slim pickins. I'm going strictly by physical releases though and its a wasteland. Literally nothing new announced at E3 or Gamescom either. I could easily narrow it down to the 7 or 8 I'd keep to play and there are about half a dozen other games I'd like to pick up eventually. Its got somewhere around 100 games out for it at the moment. That is sad for the amount of time its been on the market. Since you brought up the 3DS that system has nearly 3x as many games out on it.

Like I said though I'm only going by physical releases and I'm sure its a VERY different story if you factor in digital titles.

I won't argue the point that games exist for the Vita, so yes, I should state "No games for me on the Vita." I'm just a bit sour on Sony handhelds after owning both the PSP and Vita, and being disappointed by both. I did manage to find several PSP games that I really enjoyed, but it seems that Vita just never got off the ground with support. I'm in with Crabby, in that I look for physical games unless I am getting them for free.

For shame on the Final Fantasy games, GrayGhost. I think that 4, 5, and 6 should be experienced by anyone that even remotely enjoys RPGs.

I disagree with you Ghost on saying you have to count all regions. Most people do not import games. A lot of collectors dont even import games. When I see a Vita in the store I always think you yeah that is out. People talked about the Vita even less than the Wii U. I n the US and maybe other regions the Vita is pretty much dead.

@Tynstar - What you're saying about importing is fair. I really brought it up because I was having a hard time finding data on exactly how many North American releases there are, so I went with the grand total.

And I'm not arguing the success of the Vita or how much Sony supports it, etc. I was just arguing that the notion that it doesn't have any games is false. There are plenty and tons more on the way.

Hello again,

It's slow going for me listening to the latest 'cast. I just got to the 52-minute mark when you guys brought up the head-spinny glitch in New Vegas... which really belongs in the Dead or Alive series  ;D. ANYway, it reminded me of several Cracked.com articles about various video game glitches, which you can read about... IF YOU DARE:

http://www.cracked.com/photoplasty_990_the-22-most-horrifying-video-game-glitches/
This one has the head-spinny scene that Bil was talkin' about.

Another look at the head-spinny scene.

http://www.cracked.com/article_19262_6-glitches-that-accidentally-invented-modern-gaming.html

There are several more on glitches, but I'll leave it to you to dig 'em up on your own.

On another note:"Don't qualify it, just say it!" is the best Bil line in this CollectorCast so far. Heck, that could be the new Nike slogan...

Speaking of glitches: I've been listening to the CollectorCast on YouTube on the 1.5x-speed setting so I can listen to a 3-hour spiel in just 2 hours. However, just for fun I set it at half-speed... and now I know what it would sound like if Duke, Crabs and Bil did the show while drunk. You really gotta give it a listen, it's a freakin' hoot. Especially 55:10 to 55:20; it sounds like your stereotypical soused buddy recalling one of the big regrets in his life.

UPDATE: Just went into the second hour of the show while still listening at half-speed. Seriously, you gotta experience it like this; it's funny as hell. It might take twice as long to go through the deal, but I'm tellin' ya, it's freakin'-a worth it.

Keep up the entertaining stuff, my good men...

I know I'm a little late to the party, but I loved this topic.  It's nice to know I'm not the only one who spends too much money on great games that just sit on the shelf.  Here's a short list of games included in my pile:

Mega Man X2.

I love all the classic Mega Man games.  1-6 are all great, I played the crap out of X, beat X3 and liked that one, and I even enjoyed MM7 a bit (however I didn't enjoy paying retail for X3 and MM7...ouch).  Anyhoo I bought X2 on feebay about 6 months ago, popped it in for about 5 minutes, and haven't touched it since.

Super Mario RPG

Yeah....I know there was a retro playthrough of this game a few months back and I owned the game at that point, but I just couldn't find the time to get around to it.  I know I'd love it too.  I'm a big fan of isometric views (Final Fantasy Tactics is my favorite game ever) and it looks quite appealing in Super Mario RPG as well.

Dragon Warrior I, II, III

Again, this is a time problem.  I'd love to get wrapped up in a classic rpg, but I just don't have the time to do it.  I reserve most of my gaming for quickies like shooters.  And speaking of shooters.....

Darius Twin and Super R-Type

I have no excuse for these two games.  I just haven't played them yet.  Again I know I'd love them if I gave them even a 30 second try, but for some reason they never cross my mind when I'm thinking of something I want to play.

It's really easy to forget about the titles tucked away on the shelf until you sit down and make yourself think of them. I hope it inspired you to play some, and I have been working my way through Dragon Warrior in prep for II. I know I won't dig out, but I'll make some progress.

It really is shameful, I would estimate about 90% of what I own is unplayed...I started to pick some that were pretty well known as good games that I know I NEED to play to form my pile, but the list dragged on, so I started a new thread for it.

To keep it short here...

I have never beaten a Zelda game, never played a Metroid game, never played any Donkey Kong games, only played two of the Mega man games, and the only metal gear game I have played was Metal Gear Solid.

finally listened to the show! then i went to vote the day after and realised i hadn't paid close enough attention, i couldn't remember some of the specifics of who hadn't played what. i feel like most of the games duke mentioned were a bit more important to play in my mind, though crabby was pretty bad too. i went with duke :)

my pile of shame:

PC:
 - command and conquer - played a little bit on a copy of C&C 3 from the library years ago, otherwise nothing.
 - The Elder Scrolls Series - little bit of experience with oblivion but got stuck and never went back to it. never tried any of the others.
 - Myst - played the first area a lot when i was young but never got far

Xbox:
 - Halo 2 - very little local multiplayer experience

Xbox 360:
 - Assassin's Creed series - no experience
 - Deus Ex: Human Revolution - no experience with series
 - Gears of War series - no experience, friend really likes them and i enjoyed Resistance which i hear is somewhat similar.
 - L.A. Noire - no experience
 - Mirror's Edge - no experience
 - Telltale's The Walking Dead season 1 - no experience

3DS:
 - Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon - no experience
 - Mario Kart 7 - very little experience, i'd like to finish every mario kart game so this will happen eventually

N64:
 - Conker's Bad Fur Day - Seen the entire game played by a friend, haven't touched it myself
 - Gauntlet Legends - love it but haven't gotten far
 - Ogre Battle 64 - looks really interesting, want to give it a try
 - Paper Mario - currently working on it
 - Star Wars Rogue Squadron - got fairly far when i was young but never finished
 - Star Wars Shadows of the Empire - not much experience
 - Turok series - no experience
 - Vigilante 8 2nd Offense - no experience, loved the first

DS
 - Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon - no experience with the series other than watching a friend play some on GBA in middle school
 - New Super Mario Bros - finished the Wii and Wii U sequels, i'd like to see where the series started

Gamecube
 - Geist - really cool looking FPS that i haven't tried more than 20 minutes of
 - Ikaruga - i love shmups but haven't done much with this
 - Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker - got all the way to the tower of the gods before stopping for some unknown reason when i was young
 - Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess - no more than 30 minutes experience with this
 - Pikmin 1 & 2 - very little experience
 - Star Fox Assault - this looks awesome and i loved 64 but haven't tried it much
 - Super Mario Sunshine - a little experience

NES
 - Solar Jetman - played a lot as a kid but never got far
 - Super Mario Bros 2 - i've beaten the first and third
 - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - love this one, played it a ton as a kid but never got far

SNES
 - F-Zero - very little experience

Wii
 - Cursed Mountain - picked it up after hearing crabby recommend it, tried it and like it but haven't done much
 - Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword - haven't touched it, waiting to finish every other game in the series first
 - Mario Kart Wii - like 7, going to complete every game in the series eventually
 - Pandora's Tower - really enjoyed The Last Story and want to see what the other Rainfall games are like
 - Sin & Punishment: Star Successor - looks cool
 - Super Mario Galaxy (and 2 but don't own it) - no excuse

Wii U
haven't finished anything on Wii U except New Super Mario Bros U, i want to finish all of what i own on it

Dreamcast
 - Phantasy Star Online (Ver. 2) - loved the original Phantasy Star, want to try this someday
 - Shenmue - hear a lot about this and want to see what the fuss is about
 - Resident Evil: Code Veronica - same as Shenmue

Genesis
 - haven't beaten any sonic game

Saturn
 - NiGHTS into Dreams - pop it in once in a while, never gotten far

PS1
 - Final Fantasy VII - no excuse
 - G-Darius - cool looking shooter, want to try finishing
 - Metal Gear Solid - no experience with series

PS2
 - Grand Theft Auto III - had been against trying this for a long time because i never cared for it, but i really need to try it at least
 - Hitman 2 & Blood Money - very little experience with series
 - Kingdom Hearts I & II - no experience with series
 - Tomb Raider: Legend - no experience with series
 - Okami - no excuse
 - Ratchet & Clank - only experience with series is watching a friend play one of them
 - Star Wars Battlefront - finished the second one but never the first, though i've played a ton of multiplayer on it
 - Xenosaga Episode I - no experience with series

PS3
 - Bioshock series - i have all of them on here (infinite comes with a download of the original apparently) but never touched them
 - Catherine - quirky, looks worth trying
 - Fallout 3 - no experience with series
 - God of War III - haven't finished 2 either but i finished the original
 - Lord of the Rings War in the North - a friend bought me the special edition for christmas a few years ago and i still haven't touched it yet
 - Mass Effect Trilogy - no excuse, no experience
 - Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale - haven't given this nearly enough time, it looks awesome
 - Remember Me - looks cool, haven't done more than 20 minutes
 - Saints Row 2 - no experience with series
 - Uncharted series - no experience

Steam:
 - The Bureau: XCOM Declassified - got this for free from Bil, haven't touched it yet
 - Dead Space - not a huge horror fan but i like some of them, would be willing to try it. no experience with series
 - FEZ - got it on Fleach's recommendation, haven't touched it yet
 - Left 4 Dead 2 - no experience with series
 - Metro 2033 - keep hearing good things about the metro series but no experience with it
 - Portal 2 - finished the first, haven't touched this yet

this is almost closer to a backlog, but not quite. i left out a lot that i have interest in playing but i know most people wouldn't care about.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Don't bother IMHO

Play Skyrim. Mmmmmm Skyrim. Also, Walking Dead.

I think Human Revolution is a fine game, especially with the DLC there to bridge the story gap. That said there are very, very few games that can compare with the first Deus Ex.
