Title: Voting: SNES Shmup Retro Playthrough
Post by: singlebanana on September 24, 2014, 01:36:08 PM
Same deal, PLEASE vote.  ;D

Please vote for the SNES game you want to play in December. One vote per person. Result will be shown when the voting is over in 3 days. Please only vote if you are intending on joining the playthrough in December. Mods, please do not mention which game(s) are in the lead. I would like for the voting to remain untainted and for people to choose the game they really want to play. Thanks.

Damn it, no Gradius III.

You guys picked the wrong Gradius.

I voted for the only one I own.

I never understood this logic. The purpose of playthroughs is to have an excuse to buy titles you don't already own. :D

Agreed. Gradius and Gradius III would have been awesome to combine, you could then compare the two and briefly see the evolution between the two.

Also, if you haven't ever seen it, check out the art for Phalanx. Pretty funny for a space-shooter. ha ha

Sorry gents. Trying to keep some variety in the playthrough. Dedicating half the month to the Gradius series is too heavy-handed.

Which makes perfect sense, that being said though...I do not currently own any of the above. I was going to choose the one I could get most easily, but none seem to be all that rare, and a quick price check puts them all between 7-15 bucks...so deciding based on price is out...I really just don't know which to vote for....Anyone want to buy my vote? ha ha

I suggest checking out some YouTube videos/reviews on the games and just decide which one might appeal to you the most. I know that some people prefer vertical or horizontal shooters over the other, multiple options, themes, etc. We'll help you find the game at a reasonable price.

I will be. I love Vert shooters, but didn't know there were any on Retro systems. I was very satisfied when playing Viewpoint, the diagonal scrolling was a great surprise. I will be looking at the options from a gameplay standpoint and seeing which I would like to try. My vote will come later today.

Thunder Spirits is just a Thunderforce III port. Not the best version IMHO.

Voted!

This is true and if voted in, the Genesis port will be removed from voting.

Damn, I own only two of these: Phalanx and U.N. Squadron. I haven't really fired up Phalabx yet, so maybe I should go for that one. Which, guessing from the cover art, is basically Deliverance in space.

Only (really) hopefully without the pig-squealing man-sodomy.

Possibly my favorite cover ever.

Wow, doesn't anyone have a better copy of Phalanx that they can scan in to the DB?

Raiden Trad as well, I presume?

I'm also sad that Gradius made it for the NES, but I didn't want to cast any votes here if I couldn't guarantee participation. Considering that I tend to pick up shmups whenever I'm hunting, I own most of the games on the lists, so I'm up for anything... but, I would like to see some of the lesser played gems make it in.

Yes, if it is voted in.

After narrowing it down a bit based on gameplay videos, I have made my vote.

Any chance on Axelay getting on the poll?

Title: Re: Voting: SNES Shmup Retro Playthrough
Post by: singlebanana on September 25, 2014, 06:47:37 AM
The reason that it is not on the poll is two-fold: 1. It was not suggested on the earlier suggestion thread, and 2. It's pretty expensive. I can put it on there if you want, but I'm not going to reset the voting or timer. People are allowed to change their vote anytime before the poll ends. Thanks for the suggestion and your vote.

I agree. The Genesis version is superior in every facet.

Don't forget to vote if you haven't already. This poll ends tomorrow afternoon and I'll be putting up the Genesis poll next.

I sure hope Crossfire is in the running on that particular poll, even if it's not a pure shooter with on-foot missions. Guess we'll find out soon enough.

Probably going to stick with the more traditional shooters. The Genesis list is pretty heavy with quality and has several great options. This is the list we will be voting from, as suggested by our members:

Truxton
Phelios
Wings of Wor
Steel Empire
Thunder Force II
Thunder Force III
Lightening Force
Hellfire
Sol-Deace

Wow. so U.N. Squadron it is! This should be arriving any day for me, along with Super Nova, Gradius III and Super R-Type. The Genesis vote, I wont be so excessive with stacking my bets. Just going to vote and buy whatever comes up the winner.

Cool. That's the one I voted for, and as I mentioned, the only one I own. Rich, I'm with you that it's fun to buy the games you need but I'm happy as hell with this. U.N. Squadron is a superb game.

My local store has a Fami copy I believe. I'll see what I can find around and post it on the playthough game finding thread. Really happy about this pick, though it wasn't my choice.

I haven't seen U.N. Squadron in the wild for quite some time... but then, you never know. I'll keep a lookout for it.
