Title: Youtube
Post by: monstrtomstr on November 11, 2014, 07:21:55 PM
Questions about Youtube gaming -
Do you guys like to watch any Youtube gamers? If so, who do you watch?
Also, do you guys make your own videos of you playing video games? Does anyone have any success with their videos?
I myself am starting a channel. I don't have a microphone or any sort of real capture card, so I'm just recording some gameplay off of my computer for now. Here's a link to if it interests anyone at all.  :)

Do you mean do we watch people playing games, channels dedicated to games, videos of people talking about the games, etc.?

Personally, I find people talking during the game to be really annoying.  Most of the time when I'm viewing gameplay footage, it's because I'm trying to get an idea of what the gameplay is like.  I want to see how the sprites look, how they move and interact, what sorts of actions can be performed, how the game sounds, etc.  I'm not really interested in the opinion of the people playing, unless they have a decent mic, are capable public speakers, and know the subject they're talking about.  If that's the case, sure, I'm more interested in hearing what they have to say.

If I want this type of content I usually just watch Twitch.

I've exhausted Crabby's vids. He needs to make more.

I'm a youtube fanatic. I only watch let's plays as background though. I can't sit and watch a let's play.

I like high production value reviews and analysis, where ever they can be found.

i'm not a fan of any let's plays, beyond using them as an easier method of showing friends a specific point in a game that i thought was cool and don't have an easy way to find it again myself in-game. otherwise it's like, if you have the time to watch through the entire game on video, you have the time to play it yourself...unless it's really rare or expensive.

otherwise, i'll occasionally watch FrankieonPCin1080p, he's got good commentary most of the time. zeroempires and bbqturkman make good Age of Empires II commentary on high level games. penguinz0 is hilarious all the time, no matter what he's talking about.

Anyone else watch Ashens? He sometimes does gaming stuff(usually old obscure stuff or knock-offs). He's recently started reviewing consoles themselves when they come out as well(he's done the WiiU, PS4. Xbone, 3DS, and PSVita)

I have a channel but it's only like one LP(of a fangame), a couple pick-ups videos and some gameplay footage to show off what my rig can do.

As far as Let's Plays go, I really only watch HCBailly and his never-ending run of demolishing RPGs. I watch several game collector channels though, and I have a pickups channel of my own which I put out new videos on in spurts.

I watch Crabby's video's cause he is a buddy, but other than that, I find most Youtube videos on gaming, incredibly annoying.

I hate let's play videos. I don't care about some dude with a capture card's opinion. If I want to play a game I will either buy it, borrow it or try out a demo. If none of those are viable at the time I wait for a price drop and pick it up then. Once in a great while I will watch stuff like people finding glitches in games like Pokemon for fun or a walkthrough for a specific achievement I'm having trouble with but if I wanted to watch someone just sit and play I have a 7 year old I can sit and watch. He's more entertaining.

That said, Youtube is a wonderful thing. I can see the value in what some of them can offer. I am just not a fan of let's plays obviously.

i'm not when it comes to watching the entire game, but i don't mind them as a way to get a quick feel for the game itself. you can see how it actually plays instead of watching cherry picked clips in reviews or trailers.
