Thanks man, too bad you'll be playing on PS3 otherwise we could've done some co-op.

On the other hand, now anyone else who signs up has a co-op buddy ready between the two of us.

People in Europe can play too!
Japan can only play with Japan though.
Game was stackable for trophies/achievements.

Hope everyone has fun with it. I think i played through it 6+ times between the US and JP versions for myself and to help others. It is an underrated game. Not AAA but caliber but a solid game.

I nabbed a 360 copy on ebay the other day. It shipped this morning so I'll be playing for sure. Not that this is vital info, but it seems the 360 version is about $5 less than the PS3 release.

I'm down for some co-op! I'll be Lloyd... I mean Floyd Banks.

You hooligans and your 360's. Is it funny that this will be one of the first titles I play on my PS3?

I think I'm gonna sit this one out...

Wait a minute, co-op you say?  Now I'm intrigued.  I'll have to see if I can track down a copy.

As long as Ico/SotC or 3D Dot Games Heroes is your actual first game we can still be friends. ;)

Pretty easy to find at Gamestop. I paid $15 (PS3) and I think the 360 version is around $10 used.

Hey guys,

While I'm afraid I won't be participating in this playthrough, I must admit I've been wanting to try it out ever since I saw Charlie Brooker cut it down to size on his Gameswipe special:

Good luck to those who will be joining in, though.

I can't fault the guy's arguments, but I think he's missing the point. Whatever the developer's intentions, this game has become a kind of kitsch oddity rather than a 50 Cent power fantasy. Kind of wasted energy to trip over yourself in a rush to see how many ways you can trash a game like this in three minutes. Low hanging fruit.

This guy's hatred just makes me want to play it more. Obviously no sense of humor and too serious; he'll probably die of an aneurysm before he's 50. The game is over-the-top and ridiculous, and that's the draw. Taking the plot of this game seriously was his first mistake. And yet.........he never really talks about the gameplay.  I'm sure that even 50 Cent chuckles when playing this game. What's wrong with just having fun with a game?

I don't have my copy yet, but go ahead and sign me up for the 360 version.  I mentioned this game to a friend of mine, and we plan on playing through it together.  This seems like just the kind of mindless action game we enjoy in co-op.  I could probably work in some co-op sessions with some of you guys too if you need a partner.

Shame so many are willing to just write it off.

If the title was just "Blood on the Sand" and didn't start with "50 Cent" i wonder how many would be willing to check it out for the playthru.
I don't know anyone who has played the game and not enjoyed it to some degree. (Obviously some more than others)

I have nothing nice to say about the video Zag linked. It does seem that the complaints levied against the game are mirrored by the "host".

I will say this. The game is much better co-op. Just make sure you are there to have fun and you will.
Play with someone who comes across like a whiny old bastard shaking his cane at the TV and yelling at coloreds to get out of his game system and you probably won't have fun. Although i suppose i could find amusement in that too. Offensive old people can be fun too.

Guys, what are your Gamer Tags/PSN names for multiplayer? Ghost or I will add those to the main post so anyone can play co-op for this game.

Good idea, feel free to share your user tags if you wish.

So I gotta say, as I play through this game to setup checkpoints etc, that this is the first playthrough game in a long time that I'm actually looking forward to playing when I get home, because of the fun of it. And I'm playing solo right now.

Also I'll mention that this only the second game that I can think of that I have ever played where the main playable character is a black guy (the first being Prototype 2). I'm not saying there are no others out there, just those are the two that I have played, and I'd like to think I play a lot of games.

Anyway, I'm glad this game has caused such a stir already. I think the people who play it will be pleasantly surprised and those who look down their nose at it will simply miss out.

Also, I know nothing about this 50 Cent game at all. I don't even wanna watch a trailer. I'm just gonna pop it in on new years and see what's up.

Ah, totally forgot about San Andreas, thanks (at first I thought you meant GTAV and I was gonna say that Franklin was outnumbered by white guys two to one!). And never played Spawn.

Also, thanks for your participation, and if I may say, you have the right attitude!

Updated the OP a little bit.

I finished the game last weekend and it's great. I'm looking forward to joining some co-op or at least further exploring the weapon upgrade system. I had read that one playthrough is not sufficient to unlock a satisfying amount of stuff, and my first playthrough was true to this. The best weapons I had in the game were scavenged from dead motherfuckers.

I would be playing this one with you guys, but, alas, my (2nd) PS3 crapped out 2 weeks ago on a whim. As I don't anticipate dropping a significant amount of change (see also: $100ish) for a system that has already failed me twice, I will not be participating.

Week one checkpoint is up for those who are done with the shmup competition and/or want to play over the holiday.

The first checkpoint is by far the longest. This game is very short, and I think that a lot of people here will get enjoyment out of playing through the game multiple times, so if you want to ignore my checkpoints and blow through the game to upgrade your weapons for a second playthrough, by all means go for it.

Also don't worry about checkpoints for the discussion here. The story is so stupid and paper-thin that spoilers really won't matter.

Enjoy the game everyone. I'm looking forward to my second playthrough. I will probably start it on Thursday.

I've been playing for a few days. Pleasantly surprised how much I like this game. Running through this time with Lloyd Banks. The soundtrack feels like San Andreas all over again :P I have all the taunts & moves so I'm just working on the guns now. I prefer the shotgun when possible. :)

Too bad we didn't get Young Buck as a partner

Yeah he would have been a nice contrast to the New Yorkers. The game must have been made after 50 Cent kicked him out of the group. LOL

I beat the game early this morning. Hopefully I can run a co-op game with one of the other characters now. Maybe on easy instead of normal so I can breeze through it.

Good pick for this month whoever suggested this one!

I played a few hours last night. I suck at it, since I'm not use to FPS games on this system yet. However, I'm having a good time!  It was nice that the action was broken up with a driving segment so that there was a sort of break in the action. I could see myself getting a little bored without it.

I'm not a big fan of rap music, but I will say that there's something about the music in this game that works really well with the action. The music and gameplay blend really well together. #bitchgotmyskull

If you're going by my checkpoints I just added one for week two. To be honest you'll be more than halfway done with game by this point if you're following along, and next week you'll be about an hour out from the end of the game. It wasn't easy to checkpoint a six hour game, but again, I'd rather see people play through the game more than once.

I'm having a hard time figuring out how far I've progressed. I'm in a castle thing. It's after the helicopter sequence which has to shooting baddies as the lady (who stole your skull, but that's forgiven because video games) flies the chopper. Would this be the second checkpoint? Honestly, I've lost track of everything and am going from one shooting gallery to the next.

Also is the guy skull cap voiced by the guy who played Mr. Abaddon on Lost?

If you're in a helicopter shooting down on the world with a mounted turret, you're at the second checkpoint.

Played a little co-op with Disposed Hero last night. This game is great. One thing we noticed is that there isn't much difference in the difficulty levels. My first solo playthrough on easy was guns blazin' and I was basically invincible. Playing on hard (playing co-op notwithstanding), I simply found that I had to sometimes make sure I was near cover and couldn't be 100% reckless.

Just finished the game and I want to reserve my judgement for our recording. I will say though that the game exceeded my expectations. It's a solid third person shooter. It's not great but it's fun.

After having played from where we left off up to the Week 1 checkpoint, I can say that the game was fairly difficult and frustrating playing solo on hard.  The big reason is that losing all of your health on solo results in a game over, while losing all health in co-op usually just results in a few seconds of downtime until you can get back up and start shooting again.  I didn't make it very far on my own before switching the difficulty back to normal.

That being said, I'm having fun with the game.  This game was just what I needed after playing a couple of longer RPGs.  I'm definitely going to run through it again with a buddy once I see him again and give him his copy.

How so? Isn't the podcast an outlet for us to discuss our thoughts on the games we play here?

Title: Re: 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand - Modern Playthrough - January 2015

No. This forum thread is the place to discuss our thoughts on the games we play here. The podcast is a place for us to wrap up our thoughts on said playthrough. That's why it used to be called the Community Playthrough Wrap Up.

Furthermore, this sub forum is called "Community Playthroughs" and not "Podcast Research" for a reason.

So allow me to reiterate, because this is very important: The playthrough comes before the podcast, both chronologically and as matter of priority.

Well, then I'll just say this: If I say everything I have to say there will be nothing left for our Skype call.

Basically the game's a series of shooting galleries, it's not bad but not particularly good, and the driving scenes were done well.

I put in a few hours last night and am at the middle of Mission 7: Mountain Citadel. I enjoyed the firing from the helicopter scene and thought it was a nice break from what I consider a good amount of duck and cover action. 2 more levels to go I guess. Should finish up this weekend.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention. Is there a specific way to pick up the rocket launchers to battle the helicopters? I find them, but am never able to pick them up..... I end up just using all the ammo from my other weapons to take them down and I have no ammo to start every level past them. Kind of funny that I end up taking down helicopters with my 9.

Walk up to the weapon and hold X to pick it up. (On PS3 I'm not sure which button, but look for an icon of a handgun with an arrow pointing up at the bottom of the screen.) That's how you pick up weapons.

They should also be set to your down button on the D Pad. That should be up your weapon inventory. Down (unless it's different for PS3 should equip rocket launchers.

I've tried that and when I walk up to the weapon, it shows to use "square," but it still will not let me grab it. It's rather odd, but I have tried all of the buttons and several combinations

They should also be set to your down button on the D Pad. That should be up your weapon inventory. Down (unless it's different for PS3 should equip rocket launchers.

I have a grenade launcher in as my selectable heavy artillery weapon. Not sure how to swap them out.

Just finished the helicopter gatling gun scene last night and stopped at the beginning of Mission 7.  I agree with singlebanana, the helicopter scene was a nice change of pace after all of the repetitive run & gun action that came before it.

Walk up to the weapon and hold X to pick it up. (On PS3 I'm not sure which button, but look for an icon of a handgun with an arrow pointing up at the bottom of the screen.) That's how you pick up weapons.

I've tried that and when I walk up to the weapon, it shows to use "square," but it still will not let me grab it. It's rather odd, but I have tried all of the buttons and several combinations

Are you holding down the square button?  I believe you actually have to hold the button down for a couple of seconds to pick up a new weapon.  If that doesn't work, then I have no idea...

Just hold the Square button. That should equip it for you. Nothing in the manual about picking up weapons?

Don't think I mentioned it in the thread yet, but I finished the game over the weekend.  Overall it was pretty good.  Nothing mind blowing, but for what it is, it's pretty fun.

And I finally started this game up in co-op with a friend last night.  I don't think he was expecting much at all from this game, but I can tell he was having a lot of fun with it.

Never played it. Sounds like a nonsensical game; glorifies thug culture, reinforces (or validates, depending on who you ask) negative sterotypes of blacks, and puts 50 Cent on an imaginary pedestal. The fact that companies publish games like this shows that they couldn't care less about promoting that kind of lifestyle (which they disapprove of) and that profit trumps any kind of corporate responsibility.

(Before anyone brings up Grand Theft Auto- the equivalent of 5C:BOTS would be a game about Garth Brooks in which he ends his performance by walking off stage with an AR-15 and blowing away liberals left and right- which I would treat with equally scathing criticism)

(I also know that I should play the game before giving judgment but I'm not going to buy an Xbox 360, the game, and spend 10-20 hours to finish it to give a fully-rounded opinion. if the game is anything like his videos, I have enough knowledge to give a prejudgment)

You're a moron. Get out of here.

I'd play that Garth Brooks game.  Seriously. But yeah, you're clearly an ignoramus troll. If you didn't play the game, don't bother responding. This is a playthrough thread for people who played the game, not people who get off on trying to get a rise out of people on websites. Your already horrible reputation on this site proceeds you. You're like a child who waunders aimlessly into a room Donnie.

No, that game would be about Garth finding his dog and getting a new girlfriend. ;) We all know that country music joke, right?

And then re-invigorating his career with sporadic touring/Vegas shows which sell out in minutes...I don't think 50 Cent's career will see that kind of staying power. Haha. Also, glad someone else noticed the constant negative of ole boy above.

picked this up a while back and i sat down to play a few levels, no real plans to finish it anytime soon. it's ridiculous and stupid overall, but if you look purely at the gameplay it's really a lot of fun. great pick guys, definitely a hidden...something, maybe not quite gem but it's good.
