I figured I would start a localized thread on the subject since some of us are very interested and some of us would rather avoid the topic altogether.

This thread is for all things amiibo. Sharing scores and pictures, trade offers, buying/selling, and general discussion.

So far, I think the Mega Man amiibo is the coolest one so far. What are your favorites?

Also, I am interested in trading amiibo and since I have some extra cash this time of the year, I will keep an eye out for any extras to trade on the site, so if you are in need of any amiibo, post it to the site so I can try to help. I currently only have extra Sonics, Mega mans (Mega Men?), Foxes, and Toon Links available for trading, and am in need of Wii Fit Trainer, Villager, Marth, Little Mac, and Pit. I would be willing to trade games in my list for amiibo as well.

I just got Rosalina, Shulk, Lucario, Sonic and 2 Mega Mans. Tore open one Mega Man and my son and I leveled him up to max level 50 already.

I've got an extra Toon Link, Shiek and Bowser if anyone has an Ike, King Dedede or Meta Knight for tradsies.

Picked up Meta Knight today. The only reason I got him is because I was in store for the tiny window of time that he was available for preorder at a touchscreen kiosk a few months ago. Also, do you guys know about NowInStock? It's pretty much the only way to snag Amiibos online anymore.

Used my 3 extra Rosalina's to pick up Meta Knight, Shulk, and Lucario.

It really is pitiful how quickly you can level them, plus, I wish there was more to them aside from watching them fight. I would have loved to see an online amiibo fighting game mode, it require more time and effort to level them, and more in depth bonuses. Something like bonus DLC for having all three Kirby characters at 50 when playing Rainbow Curse, or playing as Mega man with his amiibo in Mario Kart 8 or something. I am really looking forward to MP10 though and the extra boards you get with each amiibo. Hopefully they go absolutely nuts with extras related to amiibo.


Every store should have gotten at least some Mega Man amiibo. Toys R Us got wave 3B on the 13th and sold out within minutes of opening, Best buy got them in on the 20th, and also sold out within minutes. Target was online only for this half of the wave, Gamestop has declared they are instructing employees to sell them as soon as they get them in, which is randomly for each state and store, so calling your local store at each opening seems to be your only shot there, and Wal-mart does not have any info on whether they will get them in stores or just online. All online sites are sold out of rare amiibo at this time though, according to NowinStock.net...which leads us to the next quote:


This was the only reason I got Mega, Ike, and Sonic. They were up on Target.com for a total of 7 minutes and I happened to check the site at the right time.

The most frustrating thing for me has been trying to figure out which will be rare and which will not. Bowser might be the only common amiibo from wave 3 that will stay on shelves. Wave 4 releases in April and I cannot put a finger on which will be the must grabs in terms of rarity. I would think the Fire Emblem characters will be rare, If Sonic and Mega are rare, Pac-man should logically be as well, Wario would be the most likely to be common, and Ness and Charizard both sound like they would be rare as well.

Ness is going to be rare, 100% guaranteed, gone in minutes, low print run etc. etc. The only ones I'm expecting to be common are Wario and Charizard. Lucina and Robin are rare cause Fire Emblem. Pac-man is going to be Mega/Little Mac/Pit level of rarity. I've actually been completely correct with my predictions thus far, amazingly. The only reason I don't have Marth is because I decided to be weird when preordering my first amiibo and get Peach. (I'm an idiot)

I am falling so gar behind with amiibos.  I got all wave one, all of two but pit and captain falcon and only bowser, Toon Link and shulk from 3.  I just can't get to stores when they have them :(

I wouldn't call having all of wave 1 far behind. Villager, Fit Trainer, and Marth are still the most expensive and rarest of them all. You can easily catch up considering wave 3 just came out and you are only missing two of wave 2.

Mega man and Sonic have started to be sighted in Wal-mart stores nationwide as of yesterday, so there is still time to head out and hit up a few of those to hopefully get wave 3B, and I still see a lot of 3A all over from time to time as boxes come into stores.

I thought he was coming with the next Fire Emblem. This is much sooner than I thought it would be. :)

If you dudes and dudettes have a Hastings or Tradesmart near you, you should try to special order any amiibo you are missing.

My wife was referred to our local Tradesmart for old amiibo by another person in line while waiting on Friday for Meta Knight. I went today and was able to order Marth, Pit, and Little Mac. They had all of them available to order with the exception of Fit Trainer and Villager.

There are none of those stores nearby me.  :(

Scored a couple trades locally:

A King Dedede for one of my Toon Links.

A Japanese imported Lucario for one my Sonics.

I have now completed wave three and am hoping to catch the pre-order for wave four so I can avoid all the stress that comes with trying to hunt for these things.

I also keep the cards in good condition when opening them, so the card would still look nice.

He is one of many I ended up with in my pre-order cancellation paranoia. I will just be happy if they all end up with people that wanted them but couldn't find one locally or weren't in front of a computer when orders opened up.

I picked up a Mega Man about a week ago to trade, but the trade fell through.  If anyone wants it, let's make a trade, cuz I don't give a crap about Amiibos :)

Picked up Lucario in a trade. And now I have sonic and mega man coming. 

Now I just need King Dedede and Ike.

Picked up a couple more Sonics for trades/selling. There also seem to be plenty of Toon Link and Shiek around here and I would be more than happy to pick them up for you guys if you need either of them.

who's camping out on the 20th at Walmart for the Gold Mario Amiibo ???

Thankfully, I don't need to since I was able to pre-order on the site and have them shipped to me...unlike the Rosalina and Meta Knight amiibos that my wife and I respectively camped out for.

I'm wondering how that is going to work since most Walmart stores are 24 hrs.

In other news.  It looks like I jumped the gun on Mega Man and Sonic.   I bought them from a fellow RFGen. member and now my wife calls me tonight and says she was at toys r us and they have Mega Man and Sonic. 

I used to work at wal-mart. They usually do midnight releases and hold the items in the back where layaway is/was and let the line start outside. In the case of the Wii, around 10 p.m. the store was calm enough to let us all in to wait in the store and stay warm for the remaining couple hours. My store even let people arrange orders and stack them up behind the counter, then checked us all out quickly at midnight with our orders ready to ring up.

Not camping but I work there so I've asked several electronics employees to hold one back for me.  They did so with a Toon Link when he came out so I'm hoping to grab gold mario like this too.

Nice guys sounds pretty good. I only have one 24hr walmart near me. About 20 mins away. I tried going for the new 3ds system but their truck didn't come I guess. Maybe I'll have better luck with the golden amiibo

Best buy has been confirmed as receiving many wave 2 rares in belated shipments from the west-coast dock strikes. They pulled these amiibos from their sites back in January, but if you give the best buy customer service rep the SKU, they can look them up in one of three different systems and tell you if any stores around you are getting any. I had great luck in getting a helpful manager my first trip to the store at opening this morning, but had to push the second rep to look them up in a secondary system for me later today when I went back. They can see if they are both in stock and in transit, so even if they are on a truck on the way, you can find that out. One store local to me is getting Little Mac, but no Pit or Captain Falcons unless I drive 3.5 hours to Casper, WY. They do not do store-to-store shipping either.

Anyone notice Mario Party 10 is releasing with a Mario amiibo? Is it the same as the release version?

I would think it would be the same Amiibo that you could buy for the Mario Party series of Amiibos. Well thats nice that they include one with the game

What's the deal with the MP Amiibos then? Do they only work with MP, and the Smash Amiibos only work with Smash? I thought they were meant to be cross-compatible.

Characters that are in smash have both their amiibos work with Smash.

But you can only have one save data from either Smash or MP10 on them. So, for Rosalina, Donkey Kong, and Wario, you would either need to delete your Smash information so it can be used in MP10 and vice-versa.


...At least, that is, until Wario, Rosalina, and Donkey Kong get released in wave 2 of the Super Mario Amiibo line.

Did you guys see the leaked Splatoon amiibos yet? It seems to just be a male and female character for them, which I appreciate, because this is getting expensive with the SSB waves. Jigglypuff and Greninja are also seemingly in wave 5, which was leaked on the same site.

No worries. Two of my Megas were cancelled from wal-mart, so I am actually all out of Megas now. If they cancel my gold marios though, I will raise hell.

I had no luck at all finding any Pits, Little Macs, or Captain Falcons in Best buys checking in stores with the SKUs. Did any of you fair any better?

I was in my local Wal-Mart about an hour ago getting some soda and saw the line. There were only about 6 people, but while I was talking to someone I see often at midnight releases, an associate came out and announced the shipment did not arrive and that they wouldn't have them until sometime next week. They were pissed. I am glad I got mine shipped when the window was open.

Was thinking about hitting up the 24hr one. But I got work at 7am till 2 so there goes my chances.

Walked into WallyWorld with the cuz around 11:45 and they had a line of course. We decided to try our luck. Turns out they received 20. We got the next to last 2. We're both still deciding whether to trade or not.

Picked up all 5 new Amiibos and the Mario Party 10 bundle with Mario today. Our Walmart didnt get any Gold Mario yet though.

Also may have found an Ike and King Dedede locally which would mean I only need Meta Knight to be complete!

Also snagged all of the SMB amiibo, and I was lucky enough to score a gold amiibo through walmart.com. All I am missing is Pit and Marth now.

Stopped by my local Walmart. They FINALLY have some Wave 1 in stock, and a lonely Sonic. I haven't seen figures on the shelves since the original launch week.

The Walmart in my town is horrible as well.  You have to go to target, toys r us, best buy, or gamestop.

They have little magnetic strips to deter people from returning them after use still in package.

From what I can tell, the Gold Mario is cosmetic only and does not need to be opened and played with, since there doesn't seem to be a Gold Mario in game board for Mario Party 10 and no indication online of any difference in how a regular guy and a gold one work. I think this guy will stay boxed up for display.

I don't remember seeing too many against you, Zag. I certainly wasn't, but then again, I stand in the center of both sides about every argument, so I am a bit blinded to the way people think sometimes. ;)

To correlate, the original Skylanders chase figures had the same chips as the originals as well. It was only later that they added support for the chase figures, and provided separate chips. I suspect Amiibos will do the same.

Wave 4 announced and pushed back to May 29, aligning them with the splatoon release. Also releasing on that date, the Splatoon Amiibo.

You can get the kids seperately, but the squid is exclusive to the three pack.

Pre-orders start tomorrow at 2 Central time at Gamestop, but have not been announced elsewhere yet. Ness is also a GS Exclusive.

Read horror stories about GameStop all afternoon, then swung by one after work and preordered Ness in less than 5 minutes. Guess I picked the right store?

My wife waited in line for two hours and was behind three people. They opened the orders at 1, she wasn't out of there until 2:15, but she was able to get me all six of the originally announced SSB amiibo and the splatoon 3 pack. I didn't even know jigglypuff came on, I thought I was on top of things, but I was wrong. Looks like I am going to have to make a trade for a jiggly if I can get a second rarity. Hopefully I can get to TRU in time to reserve a Greninja when they open tomorrow.

He went up at 3 a.m. EST on the TRU site this morning and was sold out in seconds. Hasn't came back since.

We were a little slow getting are Golden Marios up here, but one of my EB Games spies hooked me up with this even though I didn't get to pre-order one :)

Just put in my preorder for the Splatoon 3 pack and wario. All the others were sold out.

Do any of you own a NEW 3DS yet? I have a question. If you registered yourself as the owner of an amiibo on your Wii U, will it recognize that your still the owner on the 3DS if your same Nintendo ID is linked to it?

I know a few people around here own a new 3DS, but most of them aren't Amiibo collectors.

Actually, I wouldn't mind getting the Wario figure. Is he supposed to be one of the "short-run" figs, or more towards the common end? If it's the latter, I'm in no big hurry to grab him...

There is a alt Villager model with different eyes apparently. (Not sure if they are looking elsewhere or if they are different like when you create-a-character.)

Also a Silver Mario model might be on the horizon.
I wouldn't be surprised if it did come out and it was changed to Platinum though.

So my kid found out that in Captain Toad you can get a hide and seek game if you have the Toad Amiibo.  Of course, he wants it. So does anyone know if the Super Mario/Mario Party Toad works with this Captain Toad?  How can you tell the difference between the two?

Each line has a different base if I read elsewhere correctly.

There's only one Toad. The Super Mario line is used for Mario Party. There's no actual Mario Party line as of yet.

Got it.  I thought they released a Toad and than released another Mario Party Toad.  I was wrong, there is only 1 Toad.  Which I got from Ebay for a decent price!  The kid is loving it!

More bad news for me on the amiibo front. Over the last week, almost every one of my pre-orders for the older amiibos was cancelled. No word on my Shulk web-in-store GS order that was supposed to ship on the first. My Jigglypuff order was cancelled, and all but my Fit Trainer was cancelled from Play-Asia. So now I am back to grinding for opportunities to find Marth, Villager, Pit, Little Mac, Greninja, Jiggly, and Silver Mario.

Nintendo stated on Social Media on Friday to check locations for Marth, Meta Knight, and Ike, but every store I checked said they got those in on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and sold out of them already...ugh...

Amiibo hunting in Europe is a bit better. I got a spare wii fit trainer and marth. But the newer waves are a nightmare.

Yea, that seems to be a common thing around me too. The Target got 4 each. 4!

I wasn't too surprised that the city Crabby and I co-inhabit,  once again got shafted on the Fire Emblem Amiibos. I was happy to get a Ness though. Wasn't any extra on the shelf at my gamestop. Silver Mario is humorously common, as I grabbed one out of a few dozen from Walmart. The Splatoon 3-pack was an impulse purchase for me, just cause I like that Calmar Amiibo, so much. Turned out, I got the last/only one that they put out at my gamestop, which kinda annoyed the super-preorder guy beside me, that Crabby and I both know. Had to snap up a couple Pacman as well. I had Charizard in my hands, but I just can't bring myself to get anything related to Pokemon, even if it is as cool as Charizard.

I was shocked when I went to TRU today and they had probably 100 amiibos, most I've seen by far anywhere.  They only had 3 packs of the Splatoon amiibos from the latest wave, though.

Amazon has Pac-man for $13 right now.

OK, now I'm really kicking myself.  I went back to TRU to buy the 3 pack and it was gone.  Went to another one and they had Pac-man and Silver Mario, which I passed on.  Another had 1 Wario and Charizard.  Passed on it.  I have a few issues on this.  TRU is $1 more than every other store which doesn't sit well with me.  Also, I don't have Smash Brothers so I don't really have a use for them.  But still... I SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN THEM.

Gamestop is suppose to be doing a restock of Ness and King DeDeDe.  I went in today in the afternoon and they still had a dozen Ness and a half dozen DeDeDe left.

And when we're done with that job, it's on to the eradication of the most depraved and contemptible heretics of all: the Disney InfINity and Lego Dimensions collectors!

Shulk has been rerun as of today/yesterday.  So happy!

Whenever I hear or read the word "Shulk," I think of Marvel Comics' She-Hulk, as she was sometimes referred to as "Shulk" or "Shulkie." Kinduva dumb nickname no that I think about it... 

ANYway, will there be any noticeable difference between the re-release and the original? A slight re-pose or a different paintjob? Just curious...

They're reruns, not rereleases, so they are the same (including packaging) as far as I can tell.

My local Gamestop had a reissued Shulk, waiting for me the other day. I would have preferred Marth, but beggars can't be choosers!

Didn't know there was a difference between reruns and rereleases...

Rerelease indicates that there's a change of some sort.  :-\
Reprint/rerun indicates that there's NOS (new old stock), or a new print run.

A word of caution for anyone getting 8 bit mario: mario's body is a little softer than other amiibo and does not come out of its packaging as easily.  I slightly bent the arm getting it out.  That said, it's still a nice figure.

i picked up Mario Maker over the weekend and the 8 bit Mario and Zero Suit Samus. Just waiting on my pre order of the retro 3 pack

Just snagged a Dr. Mario since he wasn't too scarce around here.  That completes this last wave and only puts me down 5 for the whole smash bros set. 

A few Toys "R" Us have been spotted breaking the November 1st street date for the Mii Fighter 3-pack. Might be worth checking your local Toys "R" Us if it's near to you.

It's fairly common to find pre-street date amiibo in Europe I hear. Enjoy.

So with the upcoming release of the Kirby line Amiibo, I got ta thinking. Perhaps the title format SHOULD after all include the series. I'm not totally sure though. There's no clear cut way to list these really. Take for example Gold/Silver Mario. They're listed as variants because of course they're just paint variants like the 8-Bit Marios. HOWEVER, the NFC chips inside are different as they give a unique reward for Mario Party 8 and Mario Maker. So one could make the argument for variant status or different Amiibo all together. (perhaps linked by related hardware)

So I think we need to reach a consensus on this before editing entries becomes a behemoth task. What are your takes on organizing Amiibo?

Do variants behave like Skylanders variants? For example, are there variants or chase figures for the "Super Smash Bros." Mario? If so, you can include the series name in the front to match the standard with the Skylanders, e.g. "Super Smash Bros.: Mario", and have the separate series as separate variations (making "Super Mario: Mario" a separate entry). This is the consensus we came up with for Skylanders after it became a grey area, so the variants were based on the NFC chip supported in the base, which incidentally lined up with the game series.

Series should be part of the title (and not just as variations when a character appears in multiple series), making 'Super Mario Collection: Mario' and 'Super Smash Bros. Collection: Mario' separate rather than variations of each other.  I know I already said this back in January, but I have been doing more research since then, and my opinion has been reinforced.

The current method of basing an amiibo as a variant based on NFC is problematic as we cannot be truly certain whether or not different models depicting the same character use the same NFC data unless:
a) the NFC data has been dumped so the code from different models can be compared, or
b) a game is released in which different models of the same character unlock different effects.

It depends on the game.

If you tap Mario Party Mario in to Smash, he acts as a Mario fighter. If you tap MP Mario in to Mario Maker, the same thing happens.
If you tap MP Gold Mario in to Smash, he also acts like Mario. If you tap him in to Mario Maker, he is a separate Mystery Mushroom costume.

The NFC chip is encoded with character codes as well as series codes.

There are some known variants of amiibo. Main one being the Villager. The original has larger eyes than the re-release, but they are effectively the same thing.

Fixed the titles!! Just need an admin to unlink the non-regional variations and we'll be golden.
