Title: Movies: Where's That Line From?
Post by: singlebanana on February 01, 2017, 11:48:35 AM
A new movie game. Type up a line(s) from a film and others guess which movie it's from.  Bonus cool points for naming the character/actor who says it. Answer correctly, and you post the next line(s).  Try to keep the quotes relevant and fairly iconic for the movie so that the game doesn't drag. Get stuck with a pick?  Head over to imdb.com and find one.

Here we go!

"Am I hallucinating here? Just what in the hell do you think you're doing?

Learning about Cuba, and having some food.

Mr.Spicoli, You're on dangerous ground here. You're causing a major disturbance on my time.

I've been thinking about this, Mr. Hand. If I'm here and you're here, doesn't that make it our time? Certainly, there's nothing wrong with a little feast on our time."

Fast Times at Ridgemont High

"Are you sure you're ready for this?"
"I'll do my best."
"Your "best"? Losers always whine about their best. Winners go home and **** the prom queen."
"Carla was the prom queen."
"Really?"
"Yeah."

When Harry Met Sally

"My name is a killing word. They are ready to fight. Yet in order to lead them, I must conquer the worm ... conquer Shai-Hulud."

"The Guild and the entire universe depends on spice. He who can destroy a thing, controls a thing."

"When the spice flow stops, all eyes will turn to Arrakis. The Baron and the Emperor himself will be forced to deal with us."

Not sure if it's in the movie, but... "He who controls the spice controls the universe".

Yeah, Dune. Paul Atreides, from the BBC adaptation. Have the novels in my office.

Not sure if it's in the movie, but... "He who controls the spice controls the universe".

Yep.  Both, I think.  Better in the 1984 original (not as true to the book, but better performances), but certainly in the movies.

But I had to look up the phrase to make sure, because I remembered it was Ice Cube and Tucker but couldn't remember the name of the movie.

Character 1: Sometimes I wish I could boldly go where no man has gone before... but I'll probably stay in Aurora. What are you thinking about?
Character 2: Cassandra. She's a fox. In French she would be called la renarde and she would be hunted with only her cunning to protect her.
1: She's a babe.
2:  She's a robo-babe. In Latin she would be called babia majora.
1:  If she were a president she would be Baberaham Lincoln.
1: Did you ever find Bugs Bunny attractive when he put on a dress and played girl bunny?
2: No.
{cracks up laughing}
2. No.
1: Neither did I. I was just asking.

Wayne's World

Yeah, this game has made me smile more than once. My favorite line from Wayne's World: "A gun rack. What am I going to do with a gun rack? I don't even own "au" gun, much less enough guns to necessitate an entire rack."

Title: Re: Movies: Where's That Line From?
Post by: RobotWillie on February 06, 2017, 06:38:46 PM
=) Yeah, I grew up watching it and its a favorite of mine. I won't judge my parents for letting a 5 year old watch it so much. And I was going to use the gun rack line but then I decided to use that one, which I heard the Bugs Bunny part was totally ad libbed. Genius. My family often use the gun rack joke in our life too, like when someone says I got you a present my dad might say, "Don't tell me, a gun rack".

2: Yes, ____. But, I do not believe we will get Eddie Van Halen until we have a triumphant video.

1:  ___, it's pointless to have a triumphant video before we even have decent instruments.

2: Well, how can we have decent instruments when we don't really even know how to play?

2: And THAT is why we need a triumphant video.

When he comes at ya, he doesn’t even seem to be livin’… ’til he bites ya, and those black eyes roll over white and then… ah then you hear that terrible high-pitched screamin’. Your books are safe. While you're reading them, you get to become Tarzan or Robinson Crusoe.

But that's what I like about 'em.

Ahh, but afterwards you get to be a little boy again.

Wh-what do you mean?

Listen. Have you ever been Captain Nemo, trapped inside your submarine while the giant squid is attacking you?

Yes.

Weren't you afraid you couldn't escape?

But it's only a story.

That's what I'm talking about. The ones you read are safe.

And that one isn't?

Neverending Story, which was amazing despite COMPLETELY FAILING TO LOVE UP TO THE NAME.

Fun fact about the store owner, his name was changed from the original German novel so his initials would be the less offensive 'C.C.C.'

Person 2: Necessary? Is it necessary for me to drink my own urine?

Rise and shine, Adam. You're probably wondering where you are. I'll tell you where you might be. You might be in the room that you die in. Up until now, you've simply sat in the shadows watching others live out their lives. But what do voyeurs see when they look into the mirror? Now I see you as a strange mix of someone angry, yet apathetic. But mostly just pathetic. So are you going to watch yourself die here today, Adam, or do something about it?

"Not all the obstacles that can trip you up are on this base. Let me tell you something about the local girls. Ever since there's been a base here, there's been what you'd call the Puget Sound Debs. The poor girls come across the sound on the ferry every weekend with just one thing in mind, and that's to marry themselves a naval aviator. A Puget Deb will tell you, "Don't you worry about contraceptives. I've got that all taken care of." Don't believe it, sweet pea. A Puget Deb will do anything and say anything to trap you. I know this sounds silly, especially in this so-called modern age, but you scuzzy college pukes should watch out, because they're out there, and you, sweet peas, are the answer to their dream!"

An Officer and a Gentleman

Being a Washingtonian it is pretty funny and memorable!

I know I am right, I checked, so to speed things up I will continue now.

Main Character "Dear Lord baby Jesus, lyin' there in your ghost manger, just lookin' at your Baby Einstein developmental videos, learnin' 'bout shapes and colors. I would like to thank you for bringin' me and my mama together, and also that my kids no longer sound like retarded gang-bangers. "

Supporting Character "I like to picture Jesus in a tuxedo T-shirt because it says I want to be formal, but I'm here to party. "

Supporting Character  "I like to think of Jesus like with giant eagle's wings, and singin' lead vocals for Lynyrd Skynyrd with like an angel band and I'm in the front row and I'm hammered drunk! "

Howdy, stranger! This is Hauser. If things have gone wrong, I'm talking to myself and you don't have a wet towel around your head. Now, whatever your name is, get ready for the big surprise. You are not you, you're me.

No shit.

All my life, I worked for Mars Intelligence, I did Cohaagen's dirty work. But then I met someone, a woman. She taught me a few things, like I was playing for the wrong team. All I can do now is make up for it. You see...

[Points to his head]

...there's enough shit in here to fuck Cohaagen good. But if you're hearing this, it means is that he's got to me first. Now, here comes the hard part, old buddy. Now it is all up to you.

 Great...

Now, let's start by getting that bug out of your head.

“Yes. Well, when I see 5 weirdos dressed in togas stabbing a guy in the middle of the park in full view of 100 people, I shoot the b*****ds. That's my policy.”
“That was a Shakespeare-In-The-Park production of "Julius Caesar", you moron! You killed 5 actors! Good ones.”

“It's the same old story. Boy finds girl, boy loses girl, girl finds boy, boy forgets girl, boy remembers girl, girls dies in a tragic blimp accident over the Orange Bowl on New Year's Day.”

He asks them if they have seen their GPA's and after someone says they are not posted yet he says "I've seen them".

2. Who are you?

2. So what are you doing here?

1. [holds up chains] Dinner for wolves.

And another quote (just in case):

1. You're not a guard!

2. Neither are you!

3. We're thieves! Ha! Like yourself. Come to climb the tower.

2. You don't even have a rope! Ha! Two fools who laugh at death. Do you know what horrors lie beyond that wall?

"No one would have believed in the early years of the 21st century that our world was being watched by intelligences greater than our own; that as men busied themselves about their various concerns, *they* observed and studied, the way a man with a microscope might scrutinize the creatures that swarm and multiply in a drop of water. With infinite complacency, men went to and fro about the globe, confident of our empire over this world. Yet across the gulf of space, intellects vast and cool and unsympathetic regarded our planet with envious eyes and slowly, and surely, drew their plans against us."

1: Oh, oh, oh, I'm sorry. You testified earlier that the boys went into the store, and you had just begun to make breakfast. You were just ready to eat, and you heard a gunshot. That's right, I'm sorry. So, obviously, it takes you five minutes to make breakfast.

2: That's right.

1: Right, so you knew that. Uh, do you remember what you had?

2: Eggs and grits.

1: Eggs and grits. I like grits, too. How do you cook your grits? Do you like them regular, creamy or al dente?

2: Just regular, I guess.

1: Regular. Instant grits?

2: No self-respectin' Southerner uses instant grits. I take pride in my grits.

1: So how could it take you five minutes to cook your grits, when it takes the entire grit-eating world twenty minutes?

2: I don't know. I'm a fast cook, I guess.

1: I'm sorry, I was all the way over here. I couldn't hear you. Did you say you were a fast cook? That's it?  Are we to believe that boiling water soaks into a grit faster in your kitchen than on any place on the face of the earth?

2: I don't know.

1: Well, perhaps the laws of physics cease to exist on your stove. Were these magic grits? I mean, did you buy them from the same guy who sold Jack his beanstalk beans?

Juror #8: [baiting him] I feel sorry for you. What it must feel like to want to pull the switch! Ever since you walked into this room, you've been acting like a self-appointed public avenger. You want to see this boy die because you *personally* want it, not because of the facts! You're a sadist!

"You see, boys forget what their country means by just reading The Land of the Free in history books. Then they get to be men they forget even more. Liberty's too precious a thing to be buried in books, Miss Saunders. Men should hold it up in front of them every single day of their lives and say: I'm free to think and to speak. My ancestors couldn't, I can, and my children will. Boys ought to grow up remembering that."

1: So you're a cop, right?

2: That's right.

1: Well, I should probably tell you that I'm taking the bus because I had my driver's license revoked.

2: What for?

1: Speeding.

"And the bizarre thing is that I did it for my old man. I tortured this poor kid because I wanted him to think that I was cool. He's always going off about how when he was in school and all the wild things he used to do. And I got the feeling that he was disappointed that I never cut loose on anyone, right? So I'm sitting in the locker room and I'm taping up my knee, and Larry's undressing a couple lockers down from me. And he's kinda, he's kinda skinny. Weak. And I started thinkin' about my father, and his attitude about, about weakness. And the next thing I knew, I jumped on top of him and started whaling on him. And my friends, they just laughed and cheered me on. And afterwards, when I'm sitting in Vernon's office, all I could think about was Larry's father and Larry having to go home and explain what happened to him. And the humiliation - the f*@king humiliation he must have felt. It must have been unreal. I mean, how... how do you apologize for something like that? There's no way. It's all because of me and my old man. God, I f*@king hate him. He's like this mindless machine that I can't even relate to anymore.

[crying, imitating his father]

'Andrew! You've got to be number one! I won't tolerate any losers in this family! Your intensity is for s$#t! Win! Win! Win!' You son of a b@#$h. You know, sometimes I wish my knee would give. And I wouldn't be able to wrestle anymore. And he could forget all about me."

Don't mess with the bull, you'll get the horns.

Next:

"People break down into two groups. When they experience something lucky, group number one sees it as more than luck, more than coincidence. They see it as a sign, evidence, that there is someone up there, watching out for them. Group number two sees it as just pure luck. Just a happy turn of chance. I'm sure the people in group number two are looking at those fourteen lights in a very suspicious way. For them, the situation is a fifty-fifty. Could be bad, could be good. But deep down, they feel that whatever happens, they're on their own. And that fills them with fear. Yeah, there are those people. But there's a whole lot of people in group number one. When they see those fourteen lights, they're looking at a miracle. And deep down, they feel that whatever's going to happen, there will be someone there to help them. And that fills them with hope. See what you have to ask yourself is what kind of person are you? Are you the kind that sees signs, that sees miracles? Or do you believe that people just get lucky? Or, look at the question this way: Is it possible that there are no coincidences?"

I want to nuke this since it's been so long. This was kind of vague, but I figured maybe since it's not the super-obvious 'Dude, Where's My Car' and Dude is capitalized, someone might have noticed this iconic line in another film, The Big Lebowski.

Next up, my favorite movie of all time. Well, top 5 anyway....

I remember when I was a young executive for this company. I used to call the old man funny names - Iron Butt, Boner... once I even called him... A$$h@l3 - but there was always respect. I always knew where the line was drawn, and you just stepped over it, buddy-boy. You've insulted me and you've insulted this company with that bastard creation of yours.

1: The 12-gauge auto-loader.

2: That's Italian. You can go pump or auto.

1: The .45 long slide, with laser sighting.

2: These are brand new; we just got them in. That's a good gun. Just touch the trigger, the beam comes on and you put the red dot where you want the bullet to go. You can't miss. Anything else?

1: Phased plasma rifle in the 40-watt range.

2: Hey, just what you see, pal!

It's gotta be a Halloween movie, but I'm pretty sure it's not the first one.  I'm gonna guess Halloween 4.
