Title: $29.99? $19.99? $9.99? Or less? When do YOU buy?
Post by: phoenix1967 on August 05, 2005, 11:01:18 AM
A couple of games I've been keeping an eye on just went to the $9.99 mark, ESPN NBA 2K5 and Grand Theft Auto III. Yet, even though I know it's a good price, I think that the price could drop even further so I'm holding off.

Other games that I've been keeping an eye on are Sid Meier's Pirates and Psychonauts, priced at $39.99 and $49.99, respectively. For these games, I'd buy them as soon as they hit the $19.99 mark.

In the first case, it seems that if I waited a few more months, the price will drop even further by a couple of bucks. In the 2nd, since there hasn't been a drop on either game just yet, I'd have no hesitation buying these games the moment it hit my target $19.99 buy price.

So the question is, what criteria do you use when deciding what to pay for a game you've been keeping an eye on for awhile?

If it is a game I really relly want I will pay 49.99 for it. But most of the time I wait till under 20.

There a couple of prices plateaus that I go for:

Brand new must have game:
These include games like Silent Hill and Final Fantasy-49.99

Games that I'll play alot, but don't make me want to buy it for full price:
These are games like Metal Gear Solid 3 and Star Wars Battlefront (Neither of which I have bought yet)-19.99

Games that I will play every once in a while:
Arc The Lad:  Twilight of Spirits  Legend of Legaia 2-9.99

And finally games that add to the size of my collection:
anything by Eidos-5 and under.

I try to wait till games hit the $19.99 price. and then I wait a little more. a lot of the big chain stores like Best But and Target will often have 2 for $30 sales on any $19.99 titles. hell, last week Best Buy did a 2 for $22 on $19.99 titles if you were a Reward Zone member.

I will on rare occasions fork over full price for a game I really want but I still haven't run out of fingers to count how many times I've done that.

Once they hit $9.99 and under I'm not too picky about what I get.

Games never go below 10 bucks here, apart from the crappiest of the crappiest. And even with those it's super rare.

For me it all depends on how much money I have. I general though, I try to avoid games that are more than 20 euros.

Few games get the full price from me.
I just don't have the money to buy a game right when it comes out.

Probably 50% of the games i get for under 10$
The rest are almost all for the most part under 20-30.

exactly how I am. I used to buy games if they looked good for $50, but not anymore.

I usually buy them at regular price soon as they hit the shleves @ $49.99

then sell later when the newness wears off for like $20,

then buy again 15-20 yrs later for $100+
