If this is legit (and I'm not saying you're a liar at all), it is likely a prototype.  It may not fit in a standard 2600 because it may actually BE a prototype. If so, it would have only worked on a "system" in Coleco Industry labs way back in the day. Just from looking at the scans, it seems to be more like the size of an Atari computer cart.

There have been verified copies of Tarzan manuals owned by previous Coleco employees, but never a Tarzan cart that I'm aware of.

What you need to do is send it to me so I can take a better look at it!

Kidding...if it is a prototype, I'd guard that thing with my life.

Very intriguing. I find it strange that a prototype cart would have a label that looks fully finalized. I’d have to agree with it possibly being made to only fit some sort of development unit.  I’d look into enlisting someone to help you dump the ROM. It might be simple enough if you separate the board from the plastic to allow it to fit in a ROM dumper. I’m just making an educated guess though. ;D

Strange to see a 2600 labeled cart in a Colecovision shell. I'm assuming it has the 2600 style card edge connector on it? If so, I would think it would be trivial to wire up an an extender/adapter to connect to a 2600 cart connector.

I agree with Fleabitten...it'd be great to get a dump of the ROM, but I wouldn't even begin to know how to do that. It wouldn't hurt to maybe go over to the AtariAge website and post these picts there too.  They'd probably go nuts!

Edit:  Ah! Colecovision!  That's why it looks odd!  Thanks Duke!

Ah, could it be Coleco would develop it for their system first and then down-convert it for other systems? In this case, they printed the label before they even switched to a 2600 cart. Some companies did a similar process in the 90s, developing on SNES/Gen and then converting to the other.

So he could try and put it in a Coleco and see if it works then.

The number of pins is different between the two, so simply counting the pins will let you know.

This was my first thought, as well, because that's very obviously a ColecoVision shell. But yes, counting the pins would verify what it actually is. It's also possible this is a misprint, and is actually a ColecoVision game, but got a 2600 label stamped on it somehow accidentally.

So this turns out to be a colecovison game with the atari 2600 label . Why they had labels for a game they did not produce i have no idea .

How odd. Factory error perhaps?

I still say this has more value then a copy that has the right label. Like an error coin thats mis struck.

Very interesting. RobotWillie is probably right, usually a misprint is worth more than the standard release version, so I would definitely look into that.
