Title: minimum wage
Post by: Zimbacca on July 05, 2004, 04:06:12 PM
I know Washington State has the highest minimum wage in the country, ($7.16) so I was wondering.  What's minimum wage where you guys live.

It depends on your age and the kind of job and at what hours you do it here.

Post by: Izret101 on July 06, 2004, 07:25:35 AM
But then it's not minimum wage. minimum wage is determined by none of those factors. Those just determine if you get payed more if you get payed more.

Post by: Arrrhalomynn on July 06, 2004, 07:34:12 AM
No, because there's a minimum wage set for this. If you're 20, you can't earn less than the winimum wage for 20 year olds.

Arizona (pronounced: Arid-zona) min wage 5.50$

Right-to-work state means that anyone can get a job, even the legions of illegal migrants.  I don't mind them flipping the burgers so I don't have to though.

[smiley=laugh.gif]  Yeah, we could just build an underground subway system that goes through the atlantic.  It's a flawless idea.  |D

Alright, stupid question time.....Is that real?  Every fiber of my being says no, but I want to think it's real.

God I feel dumb for asking this.  :-[

It is a real project IDEA, but that site is fake through and through.  From what I've heard, the tunnel would be suspended because it can't very well go under the Atlantic Ridge...  plate tectonics and all.  That site was created as an April Fool's joke.  Hydrobond was telling me about the real project concept - apparently Popular Science did an article about it, though I have yet to read it.

Wow, $8.90 for waiters? When I was one it was $2.13 an hour. I know the exchange rate isn't exact from our dollars to yours but even so thats a pretty big difference.

the exchange rate has been almost on par give or take 10 cents for a year or more now :P . also in british columbia it's $10.25 too. not sure about waiters.

Stupid how you make less working 40 hours a week at minimum wage than the government will pay you to be unemployed or "disabled."

Same story that Arrrhalomynn mentioned over here in Australia. Minimum changes based on age. But here it doesn't apply to apprentices. They have a separate award that goes up based on the years they have been an apprentice.

Under 16 years of age  $5.87
At 16 years of age   $7.55
At 17 years of age   $9.22
At 18 years of age   $10.90
At 19 years of age   $13.17
At 20(+) years of age   $15.59.

Year 1 of apprenticeship $10.22
Year 2 of apprenticeship $12.08
Year 3 of apprenticeship $14.87
Year 4 of apprenticeship $17.65.
