Title: 25th Anniversary of John Lennon's murder
Post by: den68 on December 08, 2005, 05:23:18 AM
December 8th, 1980. John Lennon was murdered by Mark David Chapman.

I know a lot of you young fellas don't remember it but I do. It's one of those "I know where I was when I found out" moments in my life.

I was a huge Beatles fan at the time. They were the first real band I became a fan of. Before them all I listened to was kids records, Goofy Greats and cartoon music and such. One day while in 4th grade I stumbled onto my dads record collection. I came across "Meet the Beatles" and was instantly hooked.

I can remember begging my mom to drive me to the record store and buying more Beatles albums like "Sgt. Peppers", "A Hard Days Night" and "Yellow Submarine". I loved these guys.

Flash forward to that December morning. I was 11 at the time, 7th grade I think. I got up to delivery my newspapers. I had a morning edition route. So it's like 5:00 in the morning and I see that headline "John Lennon Shot Dead". Wow, what a shock. At the time that was a huge deal in my life. I think it may have been the first time the cruelties of life impacted me directly.

I still love the Beatles to this day.

I am he as you are he as you are me and we are all together.
See how they run like pigs from a gun, see how they fly.
I'm crying.

Sitting on a cornflake, waiting for the van to come.
Corporation tee-shirt, stupid bloody Tuesday.
Man, you been a naughty boy, you let your face grow long.
I am the eggman, they are the eggmen, I am the walrus,
goo goo g'joob

Mister City P'liceman sitting
Pretty little p'licemen in a row.
See how they fly like Lucy in the Sky, see how they run.
I'm crying. I'm cry---------ing,
I'm crying. I'm cry-----------ing.

Yellow matter custard, dripping from a dead dog's eye.
Crabalocker fishwife, pornographic priestess,
Boy, you been a naughty girl you let your Knickers down.
I am the eggman, they are the eggmen, I am the walrus,
goo goo g'joob.

Sitting in an English garden waiting for the sun.
If the sun don't come, you get a tan
From standing in the English rain.
I am the eggman, they are the eggmen, I am the walrus,
goo goo g'joob g'goo goo g'joob.

Expert texpert choking smokers,
Don't you think the joker laughs at you? (ho ho ho, he, he he, ha, ha, ha)
See how they smile like pigs in a sty, see how they snied.
I'm crying.

Semolina pilchard, climbing up the Eiffel Tower.
Element'ry penguin singing Hare Krishna.
Man, you should have seen them Kicking Edgar Allan Poe.
I am the eggman, they are the eggmen, I am the walrus,
Goo goo g'joob g'goo goo g'joob. Goo goo g'goo g'goo goo g'joob goo. (rhythmical speaking along with juba's).
Juba juba juba, juba, juba, juba, juba, juba, juba juba. Juba juba.....

Semolina Pilchard, climbing up the eiffel tower.
Elementary penguin singing hari krishna.
Man, you should have seen them kicking Edgar Allan Poe.
I am the eggman, they are the eggmen.
I am the walrus, goo goo g'joob g'goo goo g'joob.
Goo goo g'joob g'goo goo g'joob g'goo.

I was in college at the time (yes I am that old), I remember hearing about it from some people on campus but not believing it.  I figured it was a joke or something but when I got home I heard it on the radio.  What a waste.  I have a hard time believing that two of them are gone now.

Yeah, and the ones that are left can't make any decent music anymore.
