Right now it seems as though the only reasons to own a 360 is if you are a fan of FPS or Sports Games, neither of which I am. Of course there is Kameo, but then if they wanted me to play that it should have came out for the N64.

Whenever a student gets into trouble anymore, the parent steps in and says "not my little Johnny, he is an angel".  ::)

Last week we had a student have his PSP stolen from his back pack during P.E. Well he shouldnt have had it on campus in the first place, but thats not what I am concerned about..... What distrurbs me is the fact that some 12 - 13 year old boy went home with a PSP and now "owns" it. Why the fuck wouldn't a parent notice something like this ??  >:(

I got a warning email from Paypal today and apparently someone tried to charge $847 to my account.  But it's cool though, since it wasn't me I don't have to pay for it.

I get phishing emails from "PayPal" all the time. They usually say someone was trying to login from a IP address over seas or that my account now has limited access. I just foward them to spoof@paypal.com

agreed. I just began getting them in my gmail accounts. I've already changed my email several times due to spam. I've noticed that when you have a first name, last name you recieve more spam...rather than having a name like atari_wizard.

I actually get a ton of spam regarding buying stocks or doing a refi on the house. ::)

Most everything else (as far as spam goes) gets sent to the spam folder, so its all good  :)

Adding number and characters to you email address help lessing the spam.

I use my work email for all of my emailing needs, and I probably get 150-200 spam messages a day.  It used to bother me, but now it just gives me an excuse to do my best Stronbad impression.

My brother, a friend and I went Curling last night. My bro found out there is a Curling club at one of the ice rinks in the area. We went a learned how to Curl. It is a hell of a lot harder then it looks. I was a blast though. We are going back to play some more on the 23 and 29!!

Anybody happen to know what happens when the prefs & bookmarks from Netscape 7.2 suddenly disappear?  I've had this happen numerous times now in the past year...I usually just start from scratch again, but this time I lost some important bookmarks and would be nice to get those back :)  I found out where my mailbox data went after disappearing as well as the prefs file, but no clue about the bookmarks.html...

MacBeth, I sort of remember reading that 6 years ago. Now I write in ways high school English Teachers would go nuts about and I get As doing it. Thanks Technical Writing and its third person passive ways!

My thoughts on theaching English:

Teach the basics in grade school. Punctuation, grammer, etc.
After that anything someone wants to learn put it as an elective.
I don't need to learn poetry and old english and how to write a cover letter.
Freaking waste of time.
Of course this is IMO.

But for example i don't see how reading about Transcendentalist and Antitranscendentalist crap is going to impact my life in anyway outside of that particular year of english(being last year). And we spent over 1/4 of the year on it!

Just remember, if the English Teachers scold you for using passive tense, just say you are practicing to be the world's best technical writer.

My girlfriends father has MS, and he has had it for at least 10 years.  He finally had to stop driving a year ago because he has lost most of his sight.  I didn't read the whole thread, but did he say what kind he has?  If I recall correctly, there are two different kinds, with one being much more aggressive than the other.  My girlfriends father has the more agressive kind.

Luckily with the medication and treatments they have now, and are discovering, MS isn't a death sentance.  

It seems like only the really good people get MS.

That's humorous. And to think that over time as the teacher shortage gets worse we could be seeing teachers stupider than her (unless she is actually smart, but still a little tipsy from the night before).

Problem is, alot of teachers are book smart, but have no common sense. (and could not use a can opener)

I think it is a matter of trying to fix the problem and demand more. When I was younger, I felt my teachers weren't fit. Instead I have made it a priority to provide for my kids a better education and enter the system myself (hopefully as a better teacher) to improve upon it. Teaching is a fall back for many college students and that is unfortunate.

No matter how good a teacher you are if you don't strictly adhear to school policy and step on the toes of anyone "more important" than you don't count on staying there long.

One of the best teachers i have ever had, Mr. Brainerd, got fired last year with a bunch of other teachers. Luckily he had to get hired back because they ended up being short a Health teacher.

Another great teacher they are trying to can is Mr. O who ran the Italy trip this year.
Since him and the head of the language department don't get along she has been consistantly trying to get him booted.
Since i have been at Cathedral we have had at least one new language teacher a year.
Because none of them can deal with the head of the department. Except Mr. O who is on military leave again.

So yesterday afternoon, I had some of our lovely 7th grade boys pull an A/C control head off the wall and beat it to hell with a baseball bat. Luckily 2 students turned them in otherwise we would have never caught the little darlings.

The parts are about 350 dollars, and the labor is going to be 40 - 70 dollars. District policy is toi have a police report filed in these situation. The schools principal decided against it ::)

Problem:

What the hell are you teaching these kids when you let them get away with something like this?

Sure the students will probably serve a 5 day suspension, but seriously? Kids like that probably want to be at home screwing off.

The parents will have to pay for the damages, but I dont think that is going to solve the issue. If it was my kid involved, I would want him to be punished. Hell, If my son does something like this, you had better believe he wont be able to sit down for a month. And he would be grounded for a long....long time!

I was going to spend the day in this nice weather washing my car so I could ride around with the top down after I got off work, but my mom called me up and told me her car got stolen.  So now I gotta go over there and use my "influence" in the automotive field (I'm the fleet manager at work and we have a fleet of just under 200 cars)to get her insurance claim taken care of, and to find out what kind of deal I can get her on a new car.  Oh yeah, I'm doing all of this because she's going to Florida tomorrow morning, and my dad works insane hours.  It's quite fun being the good son.  :P

Halo 2 Review from Composite Generation. Sorry, don't feel like un-HTMLing

<p>I love Halo 2. What can I possibly say about Halo 2 that could be bad? Absolutely nothing, that's what! It is totally the coolest game that has ever been created, and it is obviously the best game yet created, until they create Halo 3. Microsoft has such a winner on their hands. Why didn't some other company think of such an amazing game? The LameCube and the GayStation 2 would have been smart to have created a game that is anything like Halo 2 Nintendo is so stupid. They had Gold on their hands with GoldenEye, but they let the gold sift through their hands. Too bad. Now the best company ever has created Halo 2 It kicks so much behind. When I say it kicks behind, it really kicks behind. I bet you'd love to know why it kicks so much butt! Let me tell you why!</p>

<p>First and foremost, this game is mature. I love beating the crap out of the covenant army, and stealing Banshees and Warthogs. Things die, who doesn't like death. Americans love death. I love death. Die die die Covenant!!!!!!! More games would be awesome if  they were maturer. That is why no one gets that LameCube. Real Mature gamers get the XBOX for this game becuase this is a mature game that is totally awesome!!!!!</p>

<p>Second, the Master Chief. God, what woman doesn't love that hunk of Man Meat. As a woman, I find the Master Chief extremely hot. I'd love it if my boyfriend was to surprise me one day wearing the Master Chief's armor and ask me to him remove the armor... piece by piece. That would totally make my day. I spend hours in front of the giant Master Chief statue at my local Media Play, plotting and schemeing a way to get that statue out of the store without being seen. Luckily the security is horrible there so it shouldn't be that hard to get it out of that hellhole. Men with guns are so hot. When I am not playing Magic or playing Halo 2 I am totally fantasizing about what the Master Chief is like under the armor. I bet he is totally hot. And I get to control him in Halo 2. Every sane girl Loves that.</p>

<p>Third, the graphics. A game sucks if it doesn't have awesome graphics. I've played some old games that are "awesome and a half" like Super C and quite frankly the games suck. Their graphics are no match for the amazing graphics of Halo 2. The Master Chief is amazingly rendered. He looks so real, like he is standing there right next to me, asking me to spend eternity with him. The levels and enemies are awesomely rendered and designed as well, but their wowness is totally amplified when the Master Chief model is there as well. Satoru Iwata is such an idiot. Innovation doesn't make games great, the amazing graphics do. Why draw circles on a touch screen when I can gaze upon the wonderfully rendered Master Chief, complete with 4X Anti-Aliasing, 8X Anisotropic Filtering, and Dynamic Lighting, all being seen in glorious High Definition. It's lovely I say, lovely. Anyone, not just girls, should love it.</p>

<p>Fourth, ONLINE BABY! I hate how for LAN parties everyone has to lug all their equipment over to someone's house and set it, and then install the games, and then maybe get a few games in before everyone decides it's time to get drunk. Well, with Halo 2, they have incorporated XBox Live into the game. Now I never have to leave my room and expose myself to the light in order to play the game
against my friends during the day. Now I can just sign on to XBox Live and frag away, it's totally awesome. My friends never win, I am totally awesome. Want to try me on? My handle is MasterChiefMe1. I'll frag your butt so hard it'll bleed. Online Rules.</p>

PS- Pansy Mode is really easy. I highly suggest something harder than Pansy Mode.

I did. Fusion was a disappointment.  The blades aren't as good as the old ones, and 5 blades doesn't make up for it.  The m3 was better.

Yeah. When I get that way I usually shave with an electric then move onto the blade, and it works very well.  

And I find the orbital sander leaves less irritation...

I use a two blade Gillette Sensor. Have used it for 10 years of so.

Does anyone use shaving cream? I just use hot water. Soak the face and razor and start shaving.

I use the Mach3 i got free in the mail 2(ish) years ago :)
It has probably been used a total of 15 times.

I use the Mach3 also.  About the only razor I've found that doesn't slice & dice my neck.
Scott, we had to "dry" shave in bootcamp.  Even doing the hot water trick didn't work for me.  I swear that was about the most painful part of all of bootcamp...  I usually put a hot cloth on my face prior to shaving cream as that softens the barbed wire a bit.

Hot shower first for me, and then I normally shave afterwards. I use shaving cream (some gel brand) and that normally does the trick. I use the basic 2 blade Gillette disposable razors. Maybe its about time to try something a bit better then that?

I don't use shaving cream at all, and most of the time my razors only have one blade.

Ouch^ I've had to start shaving almost every day, it's annoying.

no shaving cream here. just hot water. I've had some configuration of facial hair since I was 18 and using shaving cream makes it hard to see the parts you don't want to shave.

I use a Mach 3 too.

I don't use shaving cream, either. It's all about the hot water. That and the single-bladed razors, much like freak_boy. I should be shaving everyday, but I'm a little too lazy, so it's more like once every couple of weeks.

I went and looked at an 87 Nissan 300zx yesterday.  They're asking $1700 for it, and I gotta say I wish I had the money to spend!  Nice car.  I made a lowball offer and he is supposed to let me know something today.  I doubt he'll take $1200 for it, but who knows.  I really need a smaller car that gets decent mileage as my 3/4ton 4x4 is killing us ($60 a week)...

I looked pretty hard at the Hybrids last year (school research paper) and found that they aren't worth it.  It would take you about 10 years of driving 30000 miles a year to make up the difference in cost (that is at their estimated mpg).  Also, studies have shown that the estimated mpg for the Civic Hybrid is about twice what you actually will get.
I'd look for a Civic gasoline or one of the Volkswagon diesel cars if I was looking for high gas mileage.
I know the 300zx I was looking at will get mid-20s to low-30s for mpg if I drive it reasonably.  Also those Nissan 3.0 liter engines last forever and need little more than normal maintenance.  That's why I was looking at that Z car.  Plus they are damn fun to drive!

Get the diesel hybrid volkswagon.

Just quit my job.....told my boss and Lowe's to go blow themselves (that's the polite version).  I have no other job lined up, so I'm a little worried.  Speaking of gas, I spend over $1000 a month on gas for my little Nissan and my company doesn't give me enough in compensation to pay for that.  In other words, I pay THEM to work, instead of the other way around.  I asked for a raise, but they tell me "we don't give raises, our company can't afford it."  Well, I can't afford working for you bozos, so I quit.  With the 6+ hours a day I spend on the road, plus the 8 hours of work to do in a Lowe's store, plus the 1-2 hours of paperwork I have to do when I eventually get home, I was making less than minimum wage.  Screw that noise.  Now, I'm sitting here, drinking a MGD, wishing I had a cigarette, enjoying my lack of jobness, and thankful I don't have to pay someone else to work.

That sucks man.

Yup, plenty other references.  My wife and I have been speaking with a few of our old professors at the local university.  They, along with the dept. chair and dean, are in the process of creating perm. positions for us as instructors ( I was an archaeologist for many years before Lowe's came around).  Looks like I may be getting back into that, if I'm lucky.

If you ever happen to get the urge to walk into a Lowe's, I'm (or was) one of the guys wearing a tan vest that says "Vendor" across the back.  That's a Lowe's term for merchandiser.  Basically, I traveled through 4 states hanging banners, placing ads, signs, setting new plan-o-grams, and training the Lowe's employees.  A very thankless job.

Got a call today from the pres. of my former company wanting me to come back.  I told him I needed a raise (gas just hit $2.80 today) and that I was paying out more money than I was taking in.  He said when my 1-yr. anniversary came up in July, they'd look into POSSIBLY giving me a raise then.  Told him sorry, and to have a nice life (jerk).  He suggested I get a credit card and put all of my job related expenses on that, and they would pay a certain percentage back to me (up to 20%).  I told him I'm not getting a credit card just to please him.  Plus, they wanted me (along with other employees) to shell out $400+ for a laptop for work, none of which they would reimburse.  Somehow that would make my job "easier."  Whatever...

That's the drama in my life right now....on to other news, tornadoes are swirling all around me right now...never a dull moment.  ;)

Tornados scare the hell out of me. I have been through a lot of Earthquakes and no big deal.

New Madrid, Mo. isn't that far from where I live, and we have "mini" earthquakes here...seems like once a year.  Think the biggest we had that I remember was a 3 point something...put some big cracks, if that's what you call them, in my parent's back yard.  The last major earthquake around here actually made the MS River run backwards, sometime in the 1800s.  This whole area is screwed if that happens again.  As far as tornadoes, saw an F3 back in November(?) of last year that scraped a resort completely off the map...the same resort my wife and I started our honeymoon on almost 8 years ago.  Kinda sad.

Where I live, I think the worst we ever get is a thunderstorm. Maybe a hurricane once in about 100 years. I guess this would explain why the population is much lower than the remainder of the country. o_O

I always feel better with less sleep.Today I feel as chipper as a...chipmunk, and yesterday, when I slept in till 12:30 I felt like crap all day. The answer seems to be about 3-6 hours.

I function best when I sleep from 8PM-3AM, and nap from 1PM-3PM

6 hours is good for me.

Monday - Friday 6 is good for me. I try to get in 8 hours on the weekend depending on how much I have going on.

I function on 6 hours of sleep, but if it was up to me I would sleep 12 hours every day. I am a sleep maniac.

Mon - Fri, excluding Tues, I get about 5 1/2 hours.  Tues, thanks to school, I get maybe 4 hours.  So, Sat & Sun are my "sleep in" days where I get up at 7am (that gives me maybe 8 hrs those nites)...
Gotta love sleep deprevation!

6 hours of sleep on school nights and 8 hours of sleep on any other night is all I need to function.

I like 5-6 hours of sleep.
If i get a bonus 45 mins or so of sleep in relig class i am soo good.
I work good on that.

Most of ours are so small though they go completely unnoticed.

Just got done working on our baseball diamond here on campus.

Replaced all 3 bases and fixed a broken sprinkler head.

The 3 bases took me 2 hours, plus the hour I took preparing everything on Friday.

Put new slip sleeves into a small can and filled with concrete. Made sure they were sitting up high enough and it would dry evenly.

Let them sit over the weekend and the concrete set.
Dug out old bases, put in new ones and packed everything nice and neat.

Play ball!

You should come take a look at the fields for our school....
They need some taking care of.

We just got a new dog ( Lucky ). He is a 6 month old Beagle & he was free! His previous owners were leaving in 2 days & had to get rid of him fast. I had no problem taking him off their hands. I have no idea how to train a dog, but I've been browsing online beagle sites. We just recently started to get warm & dry weather here in NY. I've been taking him for walks in shortsleeve shirts! lol. About time!

Whats the difference?

If i have to use parenthetical documentation(which i haven't done yet) why do i also have to do a Works Cited?
I hate english...

In Works Cited you only list items you have actually cited. In a Bibliography you list all of the material you have consulted in preparing your essay whether or not you have actually cited the work.

In other words, when you directly quote a sentence, paragraph, section, or whatever in a book, that's when you use the parenthetical documentation, and then list that book quoted from in your Works Cited section.

The parenthetical documentation is used to cite the items listed in the Works Cited section.  Works Cited can also be refered to a References.  Pretty clear, huh?  ::)

Yeah, to me, Works Cited and Bibliography are the same thing.  But I remember from my college days that some professors can be real wack-jobs, so no telling what they'll expect.

An excellent resource for writing info and we were required to buy it freshman year.
Of course by sophmore year only half the students still have them.
And most of them have duplicates because they stole them from a teacher or open locker or found them in a classroom lol

Luckily my bibliography is going to be huge. I am just taking a TON of boks and putting them down.
Unfortunately works cited is going to end up just being 5ish sources used over and over.
I have pretty much said everything i needed to in approx 3 typed pages.
So now i am trying to just expound upon it or just make up new stuff as i go and hope that when i cross check it at least most of it is true.

I have artistic license since i am taking on the persona of another human being anyways ;)

Hey I remember buying that book! Let me tell you a dirty little secret -- depending on the field you go into the stuff they teach from Writer's Inc. is crap! Active Voice? First Person? That stuff is for pansies!

If you go into any type of technical field (science or engineering), you will find that you are to write in 3rd person, passive. It's a blast for those who have been doing it their entire English career! Suddenly you go from being a really bad English student to one awesome technical writer.

But I digress, did I mention school sucks?

I did do good on writing my Lab Reports for biology and such ;)

I am a decent writer but it has to be something i actually want to write about.

I'm having the same problems, too.  Seems the images haven't been loading right, or whatever, since the message board went down a day or so ago.

Also, is anyone else having severe loading issues with the Xbox section?  I'm seeing alot of blank pages.  This also seemed to start up just recently.  Or maybe my computer is just cranky.  :-/

Damn, I can't believe how crappy the Belgian mail service is.  Unbelievable.  I've had a bunch of problems before with one of their services and had to call numerous times before they finally delivered an international package.  

Now I'm sitting near my front window and I hear a large car door shut, and see an express mail service van drive off.  So, just to be safe, I decide to check the house door, and yup, there's a huge package put down right before the door.  The guy didn't even ring the freaking doorbell!!!  My doorbell works 100% and I would've heard it 100% if he would've rang it, so I just don't get it.  Either he was too stupid to find the doorbell (which is unlikely) or he just didn't care enough?  I've had this happen numerous times before when I wasn't home, which makes sense but is also completely stupid since I live on a pretty busy street and anybody walking, biking, or driving by could try and steal the packages...as I'm quite sure that's happened twice already in the past!  

You should go postal on their asses. :P

It falls behind between 2-5 minutes a day.

WTF could be the cause.
Someone said the CMOS battery could be getting low.
Which i have never heard of happening but it could be like a watch battery i guess....

CMOS logic chips require a crystal occilator to run, this occilator requires a certain voltage to be put across it in order to operate its specified frequency. If the battery is dying, then this clock runs slower, accounting for the delay you are experiencing.  Replacing the battery should fix the problem.

Yes, replace your CMOS battery.  That happened to me before too.  Quite easy.  Just remove the old and insert the new.  All good!:)

You may have to reset some of the settings in your bios.  This shouldn't be a problem as long as you keep the computer plugged into the wall (but turned off).  

You may want to write down some of your BIOS settings before replacing the battery though, just in case.

Norton's Personal Firewall is the absolute worst. Every ten seconds or so, you get a pop-up asking permission for some TCP connection to go through, as if they can't regulate something as small as that on their own.

I agree Norton Internet Security software package is pure shit. Hell it is even a pain to uninstall. I like Nortons Antivirus but nothing else from Nortons.

I use Sygate Personal, it's not too bad, it just pops up every now and then to tell me "Port Attack Scan" is logged.

AVG Free Edition Rules for Anti-virus because it is well, free.
