I got my copy of Oldboy Collector's Edition.....what an amazing looking set....metal case with a book, flim cell, and 3 individually packaged discs inside....hopefully the movie is good....

well thats good news....im excited just from the packaging...so, if the movie is anything like its case, then it should be great....

Yeah man, if you like great cinematography, great, if only a little wacked, acting, and a story rife with incest and extremely long fight scenes involving hammers, Oldboy is the movie for you.

I bought Mad Max 1, 2 and 3 this evening because of the Movie Game thread mentioning them. I had to scrounge from the Amazon Marketplace for some decent prices because they're about £10-15 each everywhere I looked. I got one of them for £2.43 delivered. The others were £4 and £6.

I got my copy of Birth Of A Nation in from DDD.  I don't know when I'll actually get around to watching it though, since it is a 1915 Black and White silent film that is 192 minutes long........

I was going to buy some other DVDs but for some reason that shop has stopped taking cards, so I had to use the small amount of cash I had on me.

Trading Places is an awesome movie!

I traded in some old PS2 games I haven't bothered looking at for God knows how long and used the credit to buy Fight Club, Being John Malkovich, and Aliens. I only got about £5 credit, so I had to pay 97p cash towards them. The guy on duty didn't look very educated, so I was thinking "I bet he gives me £3.03 change from my £5 note". And he did! I put him right and walked out feeling ripped off and comfortably smug at the same time. 8)

Picked up the 2nd season of Stargate Atlantis last week. Thought I'd mention it as SG-1 just aired it's last episode.  :(

I want to buy Pink Floyd - Pulse but £16 is a bit much. It seems to go for ~£11 delivered on ebay, or the cheapest new I've found is £14.84 after a 10% discount. Or there's a £5 off a minimum £35 spend on HMV. On HMV.co.uk I've got Pulse and GTA:Vice City Stories in my basket which comes to £30.98.

Now I need a DVD or CD around £5 but I can't think of any I want that are a decent price on HMV.

I'll probably go with ebay.

I hear there's going to be a sequel... not a prequel, a sequel. This blows my mind and I will hate it unless it is done well. Which it should be.

the sequel will probably be just like walking tall:  the payback....same story, new characters....

Perhaps, but another idea I've had after repeated viewings is that Crank is extremely similar to a video game. After the credits there is a short clip of a video game where Chelios runs around for a bit and finally falls down and dies to the words "Game Over."

Perhaps, just perhaps, Chelios will get another life.

but, the better question is how many people stayed after the credits of pirates 3 to see the extra scene??

Hmm, haven't seen that yet, I'll take your advice though if I do.

For Dad - NCIS Season 3 - I was going to get this from Amazon but left it too late. My sister managed to get a 10% student discount on it from a shop in town which brought it to the same price as Amazon.

Don't think I posted this when I got it, but I picked up the Nirvana Unplugged in New York DVD a few weeks ago. I had been waiting for this to be officially released in the US for years and am glad to finally have a legit copy.

Also, I finally got around to alphabetizing my DVDs after about a year of living here. Didn't take too long, but it's just one of those tedious things that I always put off. Next up: alphabetizing my 500+ CDs. Ugh.

Yesterday night I picked up from a Craigslist purchase a mint condition Pioneer Elite CLD-53 Laserdisc player + remote.  Very, very high quality player (does digital optical audio output, direct cd load tray, and auto reverse).  I got it at an amazing price ($50).

Nice purchase tholly. I have seen those sell on eBay for quite a bit more than that.

the guy i bought it off was really nice (even sent me a followup email today to make sure i got it working, was happy with it, and to make sure i didn't have any usage questions because he no longer had the manual)

the guy also knew what it was worth, but wanted to sell it local to avoid shipping, ebay, etc. and said he would rather see it go to a good home to someone that was more local to him...

i made out huge on this one and it was a great deal for me..

Did you get the Xbox 360 HD-DVD recently? I can't remember what player you said you had. I was wondering how much you paid for it because Game and Gamestation are selling them for £40 now. I was tempted to get one but I don't think it would be worth it on a 19" PC monitor, and the HD-DVDs are expensive anyway. (£15+)



I was in Blockbuster a while ago and saw The Omen Pentology for £15 but decided not to because they're usually more expensive than other places. I found out they're actually the cheapest for The Omen. I traded a few crappy DVDs today and got it for £12.

I alread had a Toshiba HD-A30 (came with 2 movies packaged in, 5 by mail-in rebate, and 3 instantly in store) for $200. 

I picked up the X360 HD DVD player because it was only $50 (came with 1 movie packed in, came with the $30 Universal Media Remote, and I can use another address and still mail in the 5 by mail rebate).

Now I at least have a spare HD DVD player in case one of the 2 has problems.

I also have my PS3 80GB for Blu-ray, but that is another story.

Made the switch the Blu-Ray recently.

Watched Pan's Labyrinth.  An odd movie, but a very good movie.  Definitely see it if you get the chance.  I only wish it was in English. 

edit:  High definition produces an amazing picture.  Even at 720p I was blown away at the clarity difference.

I thought Pan's Labrynth worked well with subtitles. It made it more of a fairytale story, like reading a book with some guidance on the imagery.

I have that version too, can't say it's better than the original, though. It makes the film long, almost too long, in my opinion.

Yeah, the original is better. I have the "Complete Dossier" version that has both versions and with the exception of the extended Kilgore scenes it just gets long winded albeit still good cinema.

Yeah I prefer the original too. But I needed a copy of the film on DVD and the price was too good to pass up :)

In the UK, I believe you guys have "Masters of Cinema" .... similar to Criterion, but Region 2, not Region 1.

Ah. Yeah, they seem like Masters of Cinema although with a wider catalogue. MoC have a bit of an obsession with Buster Keaton and Fatty Arbuckle...

The only Laserdiscs I buy are Criterions, just because I love Criterion DVDs so much.  Honestly, the most I have spent on one is $2.50....I think I have averaged about $0.80 each for all my laserdiscs.

I haven't had a chance to see it since the days of VHS.  Besides knowing what the packaging says, I remember very little of it.  I am excited to see it again though.  Might save for closer to Halloween though.

I've heard this is a pretty great movie.

It has retarded politics and makes stupid stabs at America ruining the world and being fascist but it does have some pretty great action sequences.

I wouldn't go so far as to say 'retarded'... I quite enjoyed it.  I suppose it makes more sense to someone from Britain; it's actually quite amusing to think that today's uber-politically correct government with their open-door immigration policies and complete general wussiness could not only withstand a disaster of this scale but evolve into the regime which is depicted in the film.  I don't remember any particular stabs at America, other than a mention of it being just as screwed up as the rest of the world... only Britain soldiers on! :P

Anyway, there is some good action, some great drama and Clive Owen is surprisingly good.  Michael Caine is still annoying as anything though.
