Title: Game or Hardware Entry not in the database? Submit It!
Post by: TraderJake on January 01, 2007, 06:24:45 PM
We strive to make RF Generation one of the best video games databases out there, but we are not able to do it alone! We need the help of all of our members and staff to make this site great. Perhaps you love the site, but find that certain titles are missing from the database. Well, don't fret, for you can submit those entries for addition to the database! How do you do that you might ask? Well, it's quite simple! In the navigation bar under search is a link called "Submit Site Info". If you can't find that link you can also click here (http://www.rfgeneration.com/PHP/submitinfo.php). There you will find links to do any of the following:

  • Submit Games Entries
  • Submit Games Variations
  • Submit Games Regional Variations
  • Submit Games Images
  • Submit Hardware Entries
  • Submit Hardware Variations
  • Submit Hardware Regional Variations
  • Submit Hardware Images

Once your submissions have been made they are subsequently reviewed by a member of staff. If the staff member finds the submission to be acceptable then it is added to the database; otherwise, it is rejected. If you find the submission system a bit confusing then I recommend that you see this FAQ (http://www.rfgeneration.com/PHP/submitinfo.php?action=faq) to learn more about the system. If you can't figure it out you can pose a question here.

It's a team effort to keep the database up to date here at RF Generation, and we welcome and encourage member submissions. With your help we know that we are THE classic and modern video games database.

Dont forget, that when you submit these types of infromation, you are forever credited with adding this information. ;) (So you can see your name on that page)

I might finally get started on the rest of my JPN Saturn and JPN PS2 collection. I've been gone from most of the game related sites I visit for a few months due to work. But... look out now cause the work load has slacked off once again!

Question about adding hardware.

I'm looking to add some JPN VMUs and controllers. Should I submit them under Submit Hardware Regional Variations or Submit Hardware Entries? Sorry to be stupid about this! To me the VMU should be region free, but have a country.

So here is what I think it should be (might not be the correct format, but you get the idea):

Quote
Title - Visual Memory Unit [Segagaga D-Direct limited edition]
Console - Dreamcast
Region - Region free
Country - Japan

Right or wrong?

Region Free currently can't have countries added to it. I guess perhaps that the region free region should be WORLD rather than region free.

That having been said, I honestly don't have an answer other than that current restriction. That restriction could change, but it would require a bit of coding and testing to do so. I've notified Tynstar and AndyC of this question, perhaps they can answer it better than what I would be able to.

I've pondered this a bit more, and I am going to say that I feel that it technically has a region of Japan, as that is where it was released though it is region free. If that is the case then more than likely the US and PAL VMUs would also be Region Free, as would most every controller and such. I think that most everything in the current system for hardware has a region that implies where it was released, rather than where it works. So in that sense, this release should have a region of Japan, much like the US GameCube controller is in the US region, rather than region free.

If anyone feels that I should change region free to world please let me know.

In that context I feel you are correct. I was looking at the compatibility aspect of region, not where it's from.

When I add JPN DC system, all that come after the first will be under Submit Hardware Variations right? I swear I'm really not this stupid... it's just 10 straight 13 + hour days at work.

I agree with Dave on the region free. I say the region is where it was released not just where it works. I think a lot of the earlier video gaming consoles really had no "region".

About your question for the DC systems you are correct. The first one then all variants like different pack in games and different color consoles are all variants.

Post by: AndyC on March 28, 2007, 02:28:45 AM
Just for my two bobs worth, I agree with Scott, the region is where the goods are released. The majority of the entries in hardware would work worldwide to some degree.

I'll pipe in my piece here too. I figured Region Free was a simultaneous single worldwide release. Like for example how the Atari ST had game releases that came as one language/packaging throughout the world, yet a region free DS game has specific parts numbers/packaging per region.

When I add them, do I put the [variant] in or do you? Meaning do I type Sega Dreamcast [Hello Kitty Pink] or just Sega Dreamcast Hello Kitty Pink?

Just trying to get it right the first time.

You don't need to type  the [ ] though, put Hello Kitty Pink in the "Variation Title" tab and your good to go.

So is your scanner :P

Title: Re: Game or Hardware Entry not in the database? Submit It!
Post by: Funk_Buddy on March 28, 2007, 04:46:50 PM
I did most of those scans at the end of 2005. I can't believe it was that long ago.

I've really never finished my scanning project. I've still got all my PS2 and XBox games, plus the new ones I've forgotten about.

Now, if I could only figure out a way to take good pictures of the hardware we'd be set.

Start opening all those games!!!!!

Hey, long time no post.

I'm trying to add a regional variation (Japanese Release) for Guilty Gear, and I'm getting a bit confused by the regional variation submission page.  When I search for the title, I get no Japan-region results (obviously), so I click the US release.  Then, on the form I'm supposed to fill out, there is no region, just countries (US and Canada).  Is there something I'm missing?

Thanks.

The regional variation is actually for sub-regions. Example would be Zelda for the Nes. There's the US one, then there's a regional variation that we Canadians got which has Mattel on the cover. You'd then make the Canadian version a regional variation of the US one since both are NTSC. It's a sort of localization distinction since NTSC is US, Canada and even Mexico in some cases and not even game is released in all three.

In the case of a Japanese game, if it's a variation in that the cover is different, packaging, language etc. but was still released in Japan it's a game variation not a regional one. Japan only has one region no sub-regions.  ;) If the game doesn't exist at all in the database then you choose add game entry.

Holy crap, I thought you fell of the face of the earth. Good seeing you around still, and with the technical slogan mumbo jumbo, keep it tuned to channel three.

Since I'm new, but have a pretty good collection I have found some things I have that have not been submitted yet. I'll start the list here and edit whenever I find more.

US - Super Hylide - Sega Genesis - 1990 - Seismic Inc./T&E Soft Inc

US - Hylide - Nintendo NES - (Year not Marked) - FCI/Nintendo

JPN - Sony PSP [Champagne Limited Edition/Cross Region] - Sony PSP - 2007 - SECA

US - Sonic The Hedgehog 2 [Not For Resale Store Edition} - Sega Genesis - 1992 - Sega

You've misspelled it. it's Hydlide not Hylide  ;)
Here's the two links for you:

Hydlide Listing (http://www.rfgeneration.com/cgi-bin/getinfo.pl?ID=U-027-S-02970-A&)

Super Hydlide Listing (http://www.rfgeneration.com/cgi-bin/getinfo.pl?ID=U-040-S-05740-A&)

In the top corner there's a link called Submit Site Info just click that and then choose submit hardware variation. Then search for the system you want to add a variation of. Under variation title type in the name of the colour and the blanks below fill out as much as you can then submit it for approval.  for the Sonic game choose submit game variation and do the same thing.

After a couple of times it's easy to do, it just seems intimidating at first. Don't worry the staff look them over before approval and can fix any mistakes.   :)

And I just now saw the submit site info tab a second ago. Thanks a lot.

No prob. Plenty of strange game names in our database of 29,000 games, it happens all the time.

Any other Questions feel free to PM a staff member or post it, we're here to help. :)

I wanted to add Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for pc (the old one for IBM on the 3.5's) but it won't let me since apparently another Turtles game with the same name came out in 2003. Any way around this?

I had the same problem when adding an amiga game not too long back, I put the publisher in brackets to distinguish between them.

So there's

Protector
Protector (Mastertronic)

I'd suggest you do the same for now.

Not to be nitpicky... but I didn't realize I could have a name other than my username to be put up for crediting info on the game pages... so about half of the stuff is my username and then some are my real name...

anyways to get to the point, is there a way they can all be changed to my full name? If not I can live with it, but it just seems weird to have info credited to me in one name and scans on another whilst being the same game.

I just added most of my accessories to my collection the other day. I added a bunch of Intec stuff that I got for dirt cheap when I worked at Toys R Us. I bought a sound system and an AV selector (which uses the PS2), but I am unsure if that qualifies as hardware. They are both made for the PS2 and they plug directly into the system itself. I am going to try and take pictures of manuals and game scans and stuff that is missing from the database.

Oh and BadKarma, you smell... >.<

Here's the link for any of you unawares that you can submit games for review yourself:

http://www.rfgeneration.com/PHP/submitinfo.php

Just look through the links under Games Database or Hardware Database and fill out the form. It speeds things along rather nicely for the staff and allows you to get them into your collection lists faster.  ;)

As your probably aware the site has gone through a re-design and the staff have been very busy. All this work is done lovingly on a volunteer basis on the staff's free time. Adding new sections to the database is a lot more work than most realize and as always you have to be patient.  ;)

I'm trying to add Call of Duty 3 for the Euro Xbox 360 but it won't let me because there is already one in the database. However, the two already in there are variants, [Bundle Copy] and [Special Edition]. I want to add the standard one.

Edit: Sorted. Tynstar said to add "Call of Duty 3a" then edit the title once it was submitted.

If you are adding multiple id's use the "|" character (located below the backspace key on most keyboards) instead of a comma.  ;)

On my keyboard it looks like : but longer. Man, learn something new everyday.

edit- to make aswering easier

On adding "Related games". Could this be added to the submit game information page? It would save going back and adding it later.

How come the part numbers of the new hardware items I've added didn't show up? If I try to edit the information they are there.

Is it possible to enable DVD for region free?
I submitted an interactive DVD game, but even though it's region free I had to pick North America in the end because region free is not available for that console (DVD).

Edit:
Well as I already submitted it, I guess it's too late now. But if any of the mods have the power to change Dracula Unleashed from US to Region Free under that would be great.

Awesome, I didn't think it could be changed once it was locked-in,
thanks for that. :)

I added the region free region added the game under that moved the pics. Deleted the old pics then removed the game.

i wanted to add some pictures for the Neo Geo pocket colour to the European database, but like allot of other consoles it isn't listed.

I know its the place of the users to add the games and systems to the database but doesn't it seam obvious to add some systems and games to all the regions databases, even in the most basic form, as we know that that place defiantly got it and it might save allot of work in the longrun.

I don't know where to post this, but when searching for "Syberia" an Amiga-game with the name came up. From 2002, with publisher Microids. Surely this is the PC-game?

Ooops, a complete f**kup on my part, no idea why I selected Amiga.

As it's got no variants/scans/owners etc I'll change it into a real Amiga game and add Syberia under PC this time!

I myself made a mistake recently:

This is supposed to be a Playstation-game:

Removed the game

Could you please just submit it as a PSX game and I will remove the PC one.

Thanks

Army Men: World War
http://www.rfgeneration.com/cgi-bin/getinfo.pl?ID=E-061-S-00810-A

does not exist in PAL-territory under that name (it's called Operation Meltdown here, and that's already in database)

I'm probably completely confused and missing something.  Is there any way any Joe Schmo can add a NEW hardware item to the database?  Just curious because I was wondering if it would be possible to add three systems to the database.  They are the Playskool Ion, the Leap Frog My First Leap Pad, and the Sears Talking Computron, but I'm not sure how I'm able to do that.  ???

That's the problem.  The submission page asks for a console name in the drop-down menu.  But I'm trying to add a new console, and my submission gets rejected because I didn't pick a console from the drop-down menu.  It's circular insanity! :o

Oh, you're adding a console. I think only a staff member can enter a new console in.

Ah!  So, I'm not crazy...at least in this area.  Thanks!  My terminology is a little off.  In the past, hardware and console were the same thing and things like joysticks were accessories...but I'm learning.

You are perfectly sane.

Consoles are hardware.

But a ultra elite staff member has to add the console ID into the database so you can add Hardware entries(including the console itself) and software.

Hey there, welcome to RFGen. :) If you haven't had a chance yet, please check out the guidelines for helping members submit games and hardware located here:

http://www.rfgeneration.com/PHP/about.php?action=policies

I had to reject your initial submission because you used the game submission script, not the hardware one. But I did add it under the hardware script for you here:

http://www.rfgeneration.com/PHP/gethwinfo.php?ID=U-027-H-00330-A

One stipulation of the guidelines is that we need a Part number or UPC for each hardware submission to sort out possible duplicate entries, or as an alternative, a picture. Since you mentioned you had a picture I figure we could add it and you can submit a pic when you get the chance. If you have any extra info, feel free to submit a hardware edit of that page, it would be much apreciated. :)

Here's where I found a bit of info for it:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Nintendo-NES-Hot-Seat-Simulator-Game-Chair-VERY-RARE_W0QQitemZ160194921715QQcmdZViewItemQQssPageNameZRSS:B:SRCH:US:101

Mind you unless you have express permission from the seller, don't submit those pics. :P We can't deal with the legal wrangling of image theft. If your unsure about submitting images, that policy/guideline page has one for that too.

EDIT: BTW, If you have permission to use the other owner's pics and theirs is indeed a different colour, then that would be considered a "Hardware Variation" and would get it's own submission for a new entry.
;)

Hi, when I was adding games to my collection, a few were missing from the database. I went to this page : http://www.rfgeneration.com/cgi-bin/collection.pl?action=FAQ&finduser=true&folder=Collection and couldn't find any info on adding new games (go ahead and yell at me if it's there and I missed it). I would recommend you guys add something to the FAQ on that, as the games that were missing are pretty common for collectors, such as Umihara Kawase for the Super Famicom, as well as the Japanese version of Pocky and Rocky.

And yes, I did miss the giant "Submit" dropdown at the top, I kept looking under tools and stuff for information.

The submission forms are a little confusing (why is there no submission comment field / notes field for whoever reviews submissions?), and the FAQ for submitting did not fully answer my questions, but I hopefully got everything entered right.

Thanks!

edit : it would be awesome if the search was smart enough to catch common alternate spellings. I entered Twinbee, and Detana! Twin Bee was not showing up in the search because it was entered in your database with a space.
