Title: Fantasy football Post by: Sauza12 on August 25, 2004, 07:43:59 AM I had my first draft last night. What do you think of my team?
Starters QB Marc Bulger RB Ahman Green RB Duce Staley WR Terrell Owens WR Hines Ward WR Rod Smith TE Alge Crumpler K Josh Brown DEF Baltimore Bench QB Joey Harrington RB Warrick Dunn RB Julius Jones WR Keenan McCardell WR Johnnie Morton I drafted some other people too, but I can't remember who. My next draft is on Friday. Title: Re: Fantasy football Post by: den68 on August 25, 2004, 09:00:32 AM how many teams were in this league?
I'm in 4 leagues, first draft is next Tuesday. Title: Re: Fantasy football Post by: Sauza12 on August 25, 2004, 10:31:50 AM 10 were in this league. The other leagues that I am in have 12 teams each.
Title: Re: Fantasy football Post by: den68 on August 25, 2004, 01:59:32 PM not bad. I might be concerned about 2 starters from the same team (Staley, Ward)
Title: Re: Fantasy football Post by: Sauza12 on August 26, 2004, 07:31:26 AM Yeah, I'm kind of hoping that I can work a trade for a better number 2 back. I almost got Travis Henry instead, but the guy with the pick right before me snagged him in the third round.
Title: Re: Fantasy football Post by: den68 on September 04, 2004, 04:46:06 AM I had my first draft Tuesday. I had the last pick out of 10 teams so I didn't get an elite running back but I still think I did okay.
QB Peyton Manning RB Rudi Johnson Corey Dillon WR Randy Moss Andre Johnson TE Dallas Clark K Adam Viniatieri D Carolina my backups are: QB Joey Harrington, RB Marshall Faulk, William Green, WR Deion Branch, Anquan Boldin, TE Itula Mili, K Martin Gramatica, D Seattle. Title: Re: Fantasy football Post by: Sauza12 on September 07, 2004, 08:02:39 AM Nice lineup. You might want to consider starting Marshall this week as St. Louis is playing Arizona.
I also had my second draft on the 27th. Starters QB Chad Pennington RB Shaun Alexander RB Travis Henry WR Santanna Moss WR Chris Chambers WR Isaac Bruce TE Boo Williams K Josh Brown Def Tampa Bay Bench QB Brad Johnson QB Eli Manning RB Eddie George RB Chris Perry WR Kevin Dyson WR Kelley Washington WR Joey Galloway WR Rod Gardner My last league I'm splitting a team with one of my friends and I had him do the draft, so I'm not sure exactly who I have in that league. I know I have Michael Vick and Ahman Green, but I'm not sure of everyone. Title: Re: Fantasy football Post by: Sauza12 on September 08, 2004, 07:51:27 AM Alright, this is the last team that I will post here |D This one is a little different because we draft individual defensive players.
Starters QB Michael Vick RB Ahman Green WR Chris Chambers TE Boo Williams WR/RB Corey Dillon WR/RB Jimmy Smith K Mike Vanderjagt D Michael Strahan D Rodney Harrison Bench QB Tommy Maddox RB Kevin Faulk RB Najeh Davenport WR Andre Davis WR Antwaan Randle-El D Zach Thomas Title: Re: Fantasy football Post by: Sauza12 on September 13, 2004, 02:01:40 PM Well, unless Ahman Green puts up huge numbers tonight, it looks like I'll be starting the season 1-2. In one league in particular I had a great week and had the second most points in the league, but the guy I'mplaying against had an even better week. Final score in that one is 114-105.
Title: Re: Fantasy football Post by: Lord Nepenthean on September 24, 2004, 10:00:19 PM I totally don't understand the fascination with Fantasy Football, or how it got so big so fast. (This is a new thing, right?) How does it even work, anyway?
Title: Re: Fantasy football Post by: Sauza12 on September 27, 2004, 08:41:15 AM I didn't either until I got into it. Basically the way it works is you draft a team of players and you get points depending on thier performance. For example for every 10 yards a reciever gains you get 1 point, for every touchdown it's 6, and so on. It makes the games much more exciting to watch because you then have a reason to watch a 2-14 team.
Title: Re: Fantasy football Post by: Lord Nepenthean on September 28, 2004, 06:16:38 AM Interesting. Still, it's not something I could see myself getting into, at least not until the Bengals win a Super Bowl. (HA!)
Title: Re: Fantasy football Post by: Sauza12 on September 28, 2004, 07:44:45 AM I think anyone can get into it if they took the chance. Hell, two of my friends girlfriends have jumped into the act. And they don't even like football.
Title: Re: Fantasy football Post by: Hydrobond on September 28, 2004, 09:50:21 AM I was forced to do this in English freshman year by Mr. Koral. Being forced to do that made me hate the "sport." It wasn't really that much fun anyways. Then again, it would be a struggle to list 5 players currently in the NFL.
Title: Re: Fantasy football Post by: den68 on September 28, 2004, 11:07:09 AM It's not that new. I've been in doing it since 1992. If I recall correctly my original starting lineup was:
QB - Dan Marino RB - Thurman Thomas RB - Herschel Walker WR - Jerry Rice WR - Art Monk K - Roger Ruzek Over the years some of the guys I drafted their rookie years were, Jerome Bettis, Steve McNair, Tyrone Wheatley, Marvin Harrison and Priest Holmes. Title: Re: Fantasy football Post by: Sauza12 on September 28, 2004, 11:30:07 AM Roger Ruzek...now theres an obscure reference.

I go to school with a few kids who are mega sports fans they can name rosters and averages and everything from the last few years in baseball basketball and football. It is cool and wierd at the same time. Title: Re: Fantasy football Post by: den68 on September 29, 2004, 06:45:21 AM Quote Roger Ruzek...now theres an obscure reference. you want obscure? here's a few other guys I've had that you may not remember. Matt Bahr Nick Bell Brad Baxter Richie Cunningham Reggie Cobb Barry Foster Wayne Chrebet and one for shady: David Klingler Title: Re: Fantasy football Post by: Sauza12 on September 29, 2004, 09:13:56 AM Actually isn't Wayne Chrebet still in the league? I have a friend that is dangerously obsessed with him.
Title: Re: Fantasy football Post by: den68 on September 29, 2004, 11:08:43 AM he may be. I had him on my team 2 years ago.
Title: Re: Fantasy football Post by: Lord Nepenthean on September 29, 2004, 04:00:23 PM There was a guy (can't remember who) on Baltimore's team (I think the defensive line) that has been in the league for sixteen years. That is seriously old. The guy probably played in a college game the day after I was born.
Title: Re: Fantasy football Post by: shadytool on September 29, 2004, 05:41:06 PM the bengals center has been in the league that long.
is it too late to get a league started on the boards? if its not then i'd be in for it. Title: Re: Fantasy football Post by: shadytool on September 30, 2004, 03:58:43 PM alright guys, we can have our own league on Yahoo for free.
if anyone on this board is interested we need to get it together by 10/15. that is the last live draft that they have. it is FREE! having never done this before i dont really know how the draft works, but we can do a live draft, a random draft, or an offline draft for this league. to join all that you need to do is have an account with Yahoo. sounds easy enough. (but i dont think i will be betting on any games this year... sauza... :P ) so lets see if we can get the veterans and the rookies together for some godd old football fun. what do you guys think? anyone in? Title: Re: Fantasy football Post by: Izret101 on September 30, 2004, 04:45:46 PM Gimme some pointers and im in.
I already have ayahoo account (2or3 actually) so thats no problem here. Title: Re: Fantasy football Post by: Lord Nepenthean on October 01, 2004, 10:28:09 PM If it's free, I'll give it a whirl, even though I have no clue what is happening with it. I guess it'd give me a good chance to try it out and see if it's worth it to me. I don't have any money to put into this though.
Title: Re: Fantasy football Post by: shadytool on October 02, 2004, 05:02:42 AM yeah dude, NO MONEY. NO BETTING WITH GAMES, at least for me.
ok, well there are 3 of us now... how about on sunday i will set up a RFGEN league and if more from the board want to see what its like or jion then they can. this should be a good learning experience. Title: Re: Fantasy football Post by: Lord Nepenthean on October 03, 2004, 05:20:50 PM I'd like to state, for the record, that it is probably a bad idea to draft ANY player on the Bengals. Conversely, picking all of the players that will come up against the Bengals twice this year is probably a good idea: Bettis, Roethlisburger, Lewis, other Lewis, etc.
