Title: Movies so BAD they're good!
Post by: phoenix1967 on July 01, 2007, 08:57:11 PM
I heard about this movie at the Smithee Awards in 2005 and after seeing it win several awards (www.smitheeawards.com) (http://www.smitheeawards.com/ceremony_form.cfm) I had to buy a copy of it:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=015&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&viewitem=&item=250133837342&rd=1&rd=1

It's hilariously BAD!

Anyone have any personal recommendations?

House of the Dead

Brutal! Didn't they actually edit in video game footage into that one?

OK this one is an obvious one. But just in case someone hasn't seen it. Napoleon Dynomite.  It has to be one of the worst movies ever. BUT I LOVE IT. It's funny in a boring nerdy kind of way.

Also Saving Silverman. I just watched it again this morning on tbs or something like that. Great underdog movie.  Jason Biggs ( american pie ) and Jack Black star in this funny movie.

There is probably a ton more but that is all I can think of.

Napoleon Dynamite is an instant classic. "Gimme some of your tots!" "No. I'm STARVIN'!" "Idiot!". "Tina ya fat lard..."

I liked Loser better than Saving Silverman; I mean Saving Silverman was good and all but it was lacking in the Mena Suvari department.

I haven't seen the actual movie, but the Ricki-Oh movies have some atrocious gore scenes in them, completely unbelievable, but it's so damn funny. Here's a clip from YouTube:

Can I mention my utter disappointment with From Justin To Kelly in this thread? I watched it hoping it would be like Cool As Ice for a new generation, but I was wrong, I was DEEEEEEAAAAAD WRONG. That movie was just straight up horrible, mainly because of all the musical numbers with Justin Guarini and Kelly Clarkson. The only line in the movie that was awkwardly ridiculous was "I'm like Hurricane Luke, I'll blow you away." Other than that, the only thing I learned from that movie was that all girls bathrooms have a secret exit.

Goddamn, I need to watch Cool As Ice again. Universal, you guys need to release a special edition Blu-Ray (or HD DVD since you losers still won't come to the winning side) of this cinematic classic.

...Or at least give me an official DVD to replace my hand crafted DVD sourced from a Pan and Scan LaserDisc rip I downloaded. Give me a new transfer and a 5.1 soundtrack.

God I love Cool As Ice.

You're my hero. Vanilla Ice RULES! I can't believe that there is another SERIOUS Vanilla Ice fan on this site. The special edition DVD should be called "Cool As Ice: Drop That Zero Edition".

Throw my hat in the ring for Cool as Ice as well. I used to skip class to watch that on TV before I found a VHS copy. Fantastic movie. My favorite scene is the montage of Johnny and Kathy at the construction site, specifically when they are riding the motorcycle through the clouds of sand. Cinematography at it's finest.

They did, at one point, release it on DVD with packaged-in soundtrack CD, but they are sort of hard to find these days. I'm not ashamed to say that this is one of the two movies that I keep my VCR hooked up for. The other is Crossing the Line, another movie I would like to nominate here. It's a heartwarming tale of redemption. On dirt bikes.

"When a girl has a heart of stone, there's only one way to melt it. Just add Ice."

I'm sure I'll come up with more, but I'll start with:

The Three Amigos
The Little Shop of Horrors

I opened this thread to write that same title!  I thought it was pretty damn funny (plus I was really liked HotD in the arcades + DC).

It's a bootleg. Universal has never officially released Cool As Ice on DVD.

I do love Napoleon Dynamite, but contrary to popular wisdom, I believe it to be a very well made and thoughtful film. It is a movie about growing up and finding out where you belong. All of the characters are trying to accomplish this. I think most of the stupid emo kids wearing Vote for Pedro tee-shirts completely miss the meaning of the movie.

Kindergarten Ninja -this is the mother of all movies so bad they're good. You can find it on ebay occasionally. It was made by the D.A.R.E. program. Need I say more?

Humanoids from the Deep -there's a another classic. Make sure you get the 1980 one and not the 90's remake. DNA-5 anyone?

Lost Skeleton of Cadavera -check this out. It is an homage to 50's sci-fi movies done so well you'd think it actually is one. I got a good cackle out of it.

I own the DVD of Leonard Part 6. You know, the one where Bill Cosby tries to stop an evil vegetarian?

Tynstar, do I need help because of that?

I remember Humanoids from the Deep! Is that on DVD now?

I was in the theater when I saw the trailer for The Lost Skeleton of Cadavera. I didn't know it actually made it to DVD! Major cheese factor there.

anything they show on Mystery Science Theater 3000 is bad enough for me, but those are intentional.

The ultimate horribly good movie has GOT to be Killer Clowns From Outer Space.  When was the last time you had the opportunity to watch it and you turned it down?

"Awwww, what are you gonna do?  Knock my block off?"

just watched cool as ice for the first time today. i remember seeing the trailer on an old x rental copy of waynes world i have. and i relly wanted to see it but didnt want to ever buy it. so i eventually watched it 10 years later.

i like the fact that this film wasnt even cool back when it was made. i think that is what its charm is now. it wos as crappy then as it is now, where as some films are ace way back when, but they dont hold up well against today's films.

so if people actually dressed and acted like the "cool" people in this film, it would be embrassing to watch this pretty crappy film. but since it was shit from when it wos made. it makes it a little bit better to watch. i dont think i am gettnig my point across, but i hope people know what i mean.

vanilla ice's pants are the bomb though. like when he wos gonna fight cat's boyfriend. if that was in real life. i dont know what would be worse, getting my ass kicked by vanilla ice. or by someone wearing them pants.... nobody would want to take a roundhouse kick from someone wearing them bad boys.

To me the most entertaining bad movies are:
Robot Monster
Attack of the 50 Ft. Woman (the original from the '50s)

Rocky V

Ricky fights his prodigy in the back-alley. That's the climax of the movie. After Rocky wins the fight, Tommy Gunn is taken away by the cops while Rocky is hoisted away by a hoard of chanting fans. Amazing.

There is a whole line of movies that pretty much cater to this kind of audience.  Next time you are in a movie stor, look for the Midnight Movie series.  It is a bunch of the worst horror and sci-fi films ever made.  I have a few like Empire of the Ants and Reptilicus.  Back when they first came out I used to buy one about once a week and my friends and I would barbeque and converge inside to MSTize the latest movie I bought.  I have never found a better way to spend a summer day.

Hmmm, as a matter of fact, now that I have my own place I might revive this tradition.  Throw a 32 inch TV in my garage, throw my spare couch and chairs in there.  FUCK.  YES.

I'm in. I'll bring my copy of "Attack Of The Killer Tomatoes".

How about Nacho Libre? My daughter and I saw it at the theatre. Before you laugh we waited till it hit the dollar show. It's in frequent rotation on cable right now and we've watched it about 5 times already. Nach-OHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
