Title: Halo 2
Post by: captain_nintendo on November 08, 2004, 04:49:55 AM
OK , I am pretty happy about getting this.  |D

How many of you plan on getting this. And better yet , how many of you have XBOX live ? We need to hook up and play online.

Also , if you do have XBOX live then make sure you leave your "gamertag" in my other thread about gamertag names. 8)

I'm not. But i am still going to try and pick up the Limited Edition version.
I might have to use some stealth action to find a copy:ninja:

I'm getting the collectors edition, but I'm not getting it until the 16th.  I preordered it about 2 weeks ago and I have to wait until the second shipment of the game comes in.

Well, I went to EB Games with one of my friends at midnight to pick this game up, and it was an effing madhouse.  They were handing out all sorts of freebies there.  I got a Mega Man desk clock, a pack of Xmen Legends cards, and a free subscription to Xbox Gaming Monthly (I think).  Of course, I also got a ticket on the way home, so I guess it all evened out.

When they finally started calling out numbers I saw the most stupid thing.  Some guy who was in the 40's came out with two copies of the collectors edition and said he would sell one of them for anyone who didn't want to wait (like some one in the hundreds).  Some kid who's number was seventy four said that he would buy it for $80.  The thing was they were on the 60's when he bought it.  dumbass.  >:(

My friend and I went on to Xbox live and played a couple of games, and from whjat I've seen, the game looks absolutley fantastic.  I'm going over there again today after work.  If anybody else is going to be playing it online today, look out for Red Lurker.  Thats my friends tag, and I'll be going on as a guest with him.

To think th game is OK I understand but to say the graphics are OK is very odd. Halo is one of the best looking games I have played on my TV.

Ok , I played it online last night and it was a blast.
:ctf:  CTF was awesome. I mostly was base defense , but I loved sitting back and watching some blue team guy walk in and take the flag while I was hiding. Only to get shot in the back  :ninja:

The graphics are amazing for anybody thinking they are not I say to you   (lol I love that smiley)

But seriously , if you liked Halo. You are going to love Halo2.

Even if you didnt like Halo , I have heard alot of people say they love Halo2 even though they were not fans of the first one.

I want a copy but i am not going to bother picking it yet because i am not staying at my house so i don't have a high speed connection.
I have also heard that connecting to Live is miserable.

God damn this game is cool.  I spent all night playing it instead of sleeping.  You can play more than 2 player coop.  Now I'm just waiting for school to be over so I can play 3 player coop.

Oh man, I haven't been able to stop playing this.  Me and 3 of my other friends have been playing this non-stop since yesterday.  One of my friends is even going so far as to buy an X Box, Halo 2, X Box live, the Halo headset, and that FPS coontroller they released a while ago just because of this game.  We haven't even gone on live yet because we are all still getting used to the new maps.  What a great game.

Dont worry , everybody else online is still getting used to them as well ;)

The only wait is when you are in the "lobby" doing an optisearch for a game. Other than that , I didnt experience any lag during game play  |D

I am a level 2 at the moment and getting close to level 3. Last night I played with a guy who was level 9 allready :o

What is with the levels? All the kids i know told me they are level 4's. What is it the more matches you play in and win the higher your level goes up?

Title: Re: Halo 2
Post by: The Metamorphosing Leon on November 10, 2004, 04:10:45 PM
Why do practically ALL online games have to have level systems? Why can't we all be equal when it comes to killing each other or anything else that moves?

P.S. don't worry, I have no idea what i'm talking about and refuse to delete my own written words, so just ignore it.

Well I guess you get exp points for winning at different things. And so many more points for doing certain "acts" in said game. I am still a level 2 , but I have not played as much as some people...... My clan did play in and win its first clan match last night !

But if you get the strat guide it explains the exp system.

I haven't been able to play this since Tuesday and it's starting to get to me.  I told my girlfriend that I would design a website for one of her class projects, and then found out that It had to be done by Monday at 8:00 am.  This probably wouldn't be so bad, but I've never made a website before in my life.

Hopefully I'll get it done with before football on Sunday so I can get some four player action in before work on Monday.

Well, I got my hands on a copy of Halo 2 last night.  After playing it (multiplayer, and co-op) 5 hours or so I've come to a simple formula:

Halo + new weapons + new aliens + new story + some new moves = Halo 2

Overall, it's a fun game.  But is it any better than Halo?  No, not really.  I find dual-weilding weapons kinda useless, and really annoying.

It's a pretty similar game to the first, and really, if I saw somebody playing it I wouldn't be able to distinguish between the two unless he was dual weilding.

A lot of the things I hated with the first Halo stuck around:
-The very confusing and non intuitive manor of which you control vehicles
-The ability to only carry 2 (well, now 3) weapons at a time
-Mediocre graphics (I've never understood why people say Halo's graphics blows them away)
-Crappy voice acting
-Annoying high pitched hiccupping/giggling alien things
-Level design - they are OK, but not good

Since I'm not a HUGE fan of FPS in general (especially not on consoles), I'd have to rate it 5/5.  I would give the first Halo a relative rating of 4.9/5.  I still rate FPS against my all-time favourite - Duke Nukem 3D - of which I would rate 10/10 (in FPS terms).

Halo 2 makes an okay party game, but not something I could sit and play on my own for very long without getting bored.

You're fps of all time is Duke Nukem, and you're saying the level design in Halo 2 is just ok? Duel weilding is far from useless as well but I'm not going to go
on about this, since you said you're not a big fps fan.
I picked H2 up at midnight on the ninth, I'll post pictures of the whole thing soon
as I can, probably later in the week. Beat the campaign mode tonight, but I guess cant discuss that yet...
Oh and if anyone mentions GoldenEye in this
thread, I'm going to flip you off as hard as I can.

Duel wielding is the only way to servive online.
And you can cut through anything if you have your target in sight.

Vehicles rock ! I am the best Ghost pilot ever.... The end !

I went to play Halo 2 last Saturday at some late night gaming place, but couldn't stay late enough to actually take part in the tournament like I planned.  Although I did take 3rd in a one and a half hour blood gulch (don't remember the halo 2 map name, but its just like blood gulch) game.

first place had 100 kills (he was a sniper, god I hate snipers)
second place had 59 kills
I had 56 kills

My favorite is the one that takes place in a city.  You really have to work at that one.

I do love seeing somebody on a ghost.  There is nothing more satisfying then sticking a plasma grenade on a ghost or any other vehicle.

There is a huge possibility of my picking up a LE copy of this tonight.
If so i am going to need some coaching on getting all the stuff setup for online play.
As i mentioned before i was told setting up your Xbox and getting onto Live is hell. I don't know how true this is because i was told by a moron and noone else tells me anything about it.

Title: Re: Halo 2

Live is only hell to setup because you have to type in a lot of info with no keyboard. Once setup Live is setup it is really easy. I have had not problems getting into Halo 2 at all.

Halo2 on live is very easy. Sometimes searching for a game can take a minute to find a match that is close to your skill range. However once you get rockin and have friend then you dont need to search for games |D
