Title: Weekly Poll 6/13/08 Game buying
Post by: Fuyukaze on June 13, 2008, 03:05:06 AM
With half the year having passed us by, perhaps it's time to reflect upon it and look at how many more we may plan to buy.  Myself, I have no set number in mind.  I used to take stock in numbers but quickly realized that with no self control, any number can quickly become posible.

I have no idea how many games I'll buy as hunting for them is so random and spontaneous, but I plan on these ones in the next 6 months or so assuming they don't suck or get delayed:

PS2
Guitar Hero: Aerosmith
Rock Band: Track Pack Volume 1
Guitar Hero IV
Samurai Shodown Anthology

X360
Zoids Assault
Just Cause 2
Viva Piñata: Trouble in Paradise
Fable 2
Fallout 3
Two Worlds: The Temptation

There are more but those are the only confirmed release dated ones so far. I also expect some will not turn out as I hope and that will thankfully whittle the list down a bit.

I would say 1-5, as the only one for certain is StarCraft II.

I'm guessing 6-10.

As titles that I've been keeping an eye on go down in price, I'll start picking them up. I still don't have The Orange Box, CoD4, and several others from earlier this year/late last year that I've been waiting on price drops.

Several new releases that I'm also eyeing are:
Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution
Soul Calibur 4
Too Human
Mercenaries 2
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed
Fallout 3
Fable 2
and Gears of War 2

But I'm probably going to wait on most of these to see if I get them either for my birthday and/or Christmas. 8)

I just buy what I can cheaply, so I've got no set number in mind.

I don't have a number in mind but in 6 months I'll probably pick up an average of at least 1 a week. So I guess that puts it at about 26 or more.

Edit: I voted as many as I possibly can because even if I only buy one that's as many as I possibly can since something must have happened to result in that outcome.

Many.  Plus, 50 should put me over my 2008 goal of 1000 games!

I'm been trying to buy large quantities of cheap, loose NES and complete Genesis games lately. I'm already well over 100 games this year, with 2 large lots coming in the mail right now that will put me close to 200.

As many as I can.  It could be 1, it could be 100.  Depends on how it goes.

As many as I can, not new games though, they're too expensive. (€70 for a PS3 game, Pfffft)

Yesterday I saw the PS3 Platinum games at €27.99. That's already a price I'd be willing to pay if I had a PS3. There were also a couple of non-Platinum games for the same price such as Burnout Paradise and Haze. Hopefully this marks the beginning of prices dropping more and faster for the PS3, because I can't see the point of buying an expensive new console and then having to pay €70/game.

I've already bought at least 50+ games this year, and I (hopefully) won't stop :)

Yeah, I hope so too. The New titles here are usually $54.99 or $59.99, with the occasional $49.99 or $39.99. Platinums are between $19.99 and $49.99, and reduced price nonplatinums are $24.99 - $49.99, with a $19.99 here and there. What gets me is that they (game Stores) sell say... Call of Duty 4, for $49.99 new. Next to it, the have a mint, used, complete coly for $23.49, or $19.99 with MVP. New, or used? USED!!!!

Then you can consider yourself still relatively lucky. (Even though I still wouldn't want to buy games at that price)
New PS3 games sell for €69.99 here, with only a few expensions of €64.99. It's crazy in my opinion. :(

I have found that in this generation of games, overstocking and bargain bin sales are more prominent for newer games than ever before.

Perhaps it's because we have too many games sitting in stock for our small population, but every retailer right down to grocery stores and pharmacies have loads of new games for dirt cheap and I don't simply mean shovelware either.

Just the other day a local supermarket had a buy 2 for $18, get a 3rd free" sale. I ending up buying a X360 game I had my eye on as well as 3 PS3 games I would buy eventually when I got a PS3. Four new titles for the PS3/X360 for the price of one which while a great deal, is quite common. $2 PSP games new, $9.99 X360/Wii/PS3, $5 PC etc etc. Oddly enough only places like EB seem to be exempt from this trend. I've probably bought over 100 titles for new systems over the last couple of years that were under $20 brand new and I really didn't look that hard nor do I spend a lot of time hunting for games.

That coupled with the currency rate adjustment has dropped the average price of games $10-20 a piece here. It's a fine time to enjoy the hobby that's for sure.
