Title: Keep an Eye Out For Me!!! NOW A PART OF SALES EXTRAVAGANZA
Post by: wildbil52 on June 26, 2012, 10:39:56 AM
The purpose of this thread is for users to make a list of titles that they are looking for so that other RFGenners can keep an eye out for these titles when they are out hunting for games.

I know the idea seems similar to a WTB thread, but I have found that when I go hunting, I'm always thinking to myself...Does my buddy need that game?  I think that he/she does, but let me txt him/her, check their WTB, etc. I feel like this is a cleaner way to help some friends grab those elusive titles.

The purpose of this thread is to help other collectors out and not to re-sell for profit.  If you find a semi rare game for a decent price, try to pass the savings along to the person who needs it (with a small commission for your trouble).  The idea is that, hopefully, the good karma will come back to you.  It never hurts to donate your profits to:

RFGeneration http://www.rfgeneration.com/forum/index.php?action=paypal

or to the

Collectorcast http://rfgenerationcollectorcast.podomatic.com/

Step 1
Make a list of games that you are always on the lookout for but can never seem to find.  Try to keep at least 10 games on your list but don't go super crazy.

Please do not copy and paste a list of the 671 NES carts you need to complete your collection ;)

If you end up getting an item or items as a result of this thread, put a strike though what you got and list the user who hooked you up.  Like this:

Knuckles Chaotix 32X CIB singlebanana

Think there's a copy of Laser Invasion locally, though I'd have to see what condition it's in.

I know there are 4-5 Black Box games locally as well. I've seen Balloon Fight, Baseball, Clu Clu Land, Ice Climber, Slalom, and Wrecking Crew for sure.

Problem is, I've not been able to go out and hunt lately, so I don't know if they're still out at those shops or not, nor do I remember exact condition. :(

Crabby, I know I've got a few things you'd want - for the rest of you, didn't see anything interesting boxed at the flea market Bil, and the rare items I saw you already had Duke.

Were you sitting at Target waiting for a Skylanders delivery? I used to be excited for when I have kids so I could play with Legos again.  Now I'm excited to have kids to play Skylanders.

I was waiting for my wife to go through some clothes, and I'm somewhat OCD when it comes to organization, so I got bored and sorted all the figurines while I was there. I've got a decent memory, and knew people were looking for figurines, so I made a mental note of what was there.

My wife just bought it for my son and me. We've been playing it a little bit at a time at a local gaming place, but its soooo much nicer to have it at home. We've only got 6 of the characters right now so it'll be fun trying to grab some new guys for it.

Although I've completed my own set, I'll be on the lookout for ya.

I always seem to visit a couple big-box retailers a day just for the hell of it, so it's no big task for me.

And Wham-Shell is a pretty neat-looking fellow...

Old habit from working at Target, stocking shelves overnight for 2+ years. I hate when things look disorganized.

If you REALLY want, I own both...though Space Harrier II is Mega Drive.

I have one as well, if you don't pick it up banana.

I need to get the rest of my collection in order and start getting the rest of my collection boxed - I own close to 400 NES titles, but only 30 or so boxed, most of which were former rentals. I know you guys have quite a few CIB or B replacements out there, so I'll see what I can do.

@singlebanana, yeah I know what you mean by competition, I can pick them out when I am roaming around goodwill for stuff. Hopefully I can meet some good people who know something about collecting in my area that I don't know, and maybe they would be willing to divulge that info,  :)

@nupoile, I have heard about that one, I might go, but I am going into my Masters program at college around that time, so we will see.
would love to make it there and connect with some of fellow collectors and gamers, and maybe I can make it to PAX as well  (i have never been to it).

Rich,
Picked up Lethal Weapon, Conan and World Champ for you. PM me your address to make sure I have the new one this time. ;)

EDIT: Picture time:

There's a sticker on the front label of World Champ, but my wife determined that it could be removed without damaging the label. There's also some sticker residue on Lethal Weapon's label that'll come off, and a sticker on the back that can be removed. Overall, it was $20 + tax for the 3.

Also, Crabmaster, list what you want! I checked for everyone else. The copy of Laser Invasion was sold since I was there last, so Bil lost out on that one.

I've mentioned this before Bil, but I have a couple CIB black box games. I've yet to see what shape they're in, though, and my room just had everything shoved back into it after my roommates picked up the new dog. :(

I'd be happy to send them to you, since you've been holding onto that Game Gear for me.

Just to let you know, I checked what I have for Black Box games.

Baseball
Duck Hunt
Wrecking Crew

Baseball and Wrecking Crew are in excellent condition. I've mentioned my Duck Hunt previously, which has part of the label on the box back ripped off.
I'd actually be somewhat hesitant to give up my Baseball and Wrecking Crew, since they're in such good condition, but I wouldn't mind selling them to a fellow forum member. ;D

I'm about 4 hours south of Seattle. Not super close but one of my best friends lives up there so I go see him from time to time. And there is a retro game show in Portland in September, I'll be there, will you?

I'll be there!  Did you go to the SRGE last month?

No, but I was at the Gamers for Kids show in Longview in April, were you at that one?

We'll have to say "hi" to each other at the Portland show.

Nope, i didn't seriously start collecting until May.

But yeah we'll have to crack wise for a minute at the Portland show.

I may finally be able to help contribute!!! Was hanging out with my new local collector buddy yesterday and he pulled out all his doubles boxes for me to take a gander at. He has got hundreds of doubles across a few different systems and he wants to sell them off. So anyone in need of NES, Gen, SNES, SMS, Intellivision, PS, PS2, etc please PM me your lists and I'll check them against his collection. He doesnt have any rare doubles, but he has a ton of common games. Im sure I can get a decent bulk discount off him if I can pickup enough stuff too so the more people that send me lists the better. He also has quite a few systems and accessories as extras too so definitely ask about ANYTHING you might need and I'll check with him.

Make sure to add extra info in the PM about how much you'd like to spend and what you look for in condition or anything else that might be important to you. If I've dealt with you in the past I'll be more than happy to front the cash to him for anything you're interested in and you guys can pay me back when I'm ready to ship.

Does it seem like it's in good shape? I'd rather get it from someone here than on eBay, so if there aren't any big issues with it I'm down for that.

I'll have them pull it out of the case and check it out.  If it's in very nice condition, no label tears, etc., I'll go ahead and pick it up for you.

Remind me to take detailed pictures next time I go out to the flea market. The vendor there has 300+ different NES carts, some of which I never noticed until yesterday.

New things I noticed were Ghoul School, The Last Starfighter, and Monster Truck Rally, among others.

Also, Duke, if you REALLY want a copy of Sunday Funday, I own a mint CIB copy of it. However, I paid a decent price to get it together CIB (since I originally just owned the cart), so I think that you'll have better luck getting a cheaper copy of it. Heck, I'll probably have a better chance finding a cheap cart copy than getting back what I paid for it.  :-\

I go to a flea market where the guy has a pretty impressive collection (especially rarities). His prices on bigger items can be hit or miss (i.e., he tossed a $400 price tag on a loose Hagane, even though it's not worth anything close to that, but I've seen a bunch of reasonable prices too). Anyway, I've seen quite a few items from these lists there (the one weak point for that store is that the cardboard isn't always in great shape). If you guys would like me to look into some of these for you, I'd be glad to do so for you. Maybe if I had a price range to work off of, it'd be easier. These are the ones I remember off-hand:

Duke.Togo:

Bubble Bath Babes
Hot Slots
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters

singlebanana:

Jimmy Connors Tennis
Rockin’ Kats
Romance of the Three Kingdoms II
Snow Brothers
TMNT: Tournament Fighters

I've got one more item I need help tracking down. I'm looking for an absolutely flawless CIB copy of Silver Surfer on the NES. No tears, dents, creases, fading, etc. Pictures needed. I'm willing to pay/trade beyond what the typical CIB would sell for.

There's this one on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Silver-Surfer-COMPLETE-BOX-Nintendo-NES-Fast-Shipping-ic-1106a-/360531065297?pt=Video_Games_Games&hash=item53f15379d1

Not sure if that's clean enough for ya.

On the front top right corner is a crease and the flaps all have a lot of wear. Not good enough :P

Someone going for another record?

I'd be looking for a sealed one if that was the case ;)

So it's almost the new year and I'm sitting at 399 Atari 2600 games and 696 NES games.  Really looking to hit those 400/700 marks respectively before year's end.  Help a brother out!  Thanks. :)

crossed off Metroid GBA, Thanks Johnny Nintendo! (pics in small scores when I get home from work).

Added Tetris Attack box manual.  I have the cart and I'd like to complete it.  I've always loved Tetris Attack.

Tetris Attack is a great game. I suck at it, but my wife absolutely slays it. It's incredible to watch her play  :inlove:

I was surprised to find out that there is a Tetris Attack tournament at PAX East every year.  I played it endlessly with an old girlfriend so I got lots of practice.  Not sure if I could place in a tournament but maybe I'll give it a try just for fun this year.

This thread was a little experiment that has actually worked out pretty well so far.  This is the thread that I check before I go hunting and once in a while, you help somebody out.  When you post a list I'll get you linked on the front page.  Same goes for anyone else who has added a list, I'll get you linked on the front tonight.

Okay, here is my list, mainly looking for IB to go with my loose carts, but there are a few other things.  Also, if possible boxes need to be in good condition (no tears, stickers, etc.) I only have about 75 CIB games, so I need many more than what is on this list.

TOP PRIORITY:
Any Konami silver box games CIB (Except Goonies II, Track & Field, Gradius, Bayou Billy, The Lone Ranger,   and King's Quest V)
Mega Man 1 CIB
Mega Man 2 Instruction manual
Mega Man 4 CIB or IB (I already have the cart)
Mega Man 6 Instruction manual

Super Mario Bros 2 CIB
Super Mario Bros 3 CIB
Tengen Tetris CIB
Fire N Ice CIB
The Jetsons: Cogswells Caper IB
Friday the 13th IB or CIB
Godzilla manual
Iron Tank manual
VICE Project Doom cart only
Castlevania III cart only
(There are a few other manuals I need too, my collection list is up to date)

Any black box games CIB or IB, except Super Mario Bros.
SNES Super Advantage CIB
Older issues of Nintendo Power (mostly issues 2-20)
Mario Paint Official Player's Guide
Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past Official Player's Guide
Super Mario RPG Official Player's Guide

I know there are lots more I need, but if anyone finds just boxes, manuals, etc. for a good price, let me know.  Thanks!

Title: Re: Keep an Eye Out For Me!!! A Community Hunting thread
Post by: wildbil52 on February 16, 2013, 11:31:24 AM
I actually would not.  It IS a Konami game, but the box design differs from the standard silver box design.  http://www.rfgeneration.com/cgi-bin/getinfo.pl?ID=U-027-S-06600-A&type=bf

Duke has pointed out to me that several titles that didn't get silver boxes in the states DO have silver boxes in PAL like Rollergames, Metal Gear, and Snake's Revenge.  Once I finish the silver box set, I wouldn't mind going after the PAL version to extend the silver section.

i was actually offered that same battery charger already, and was told it didn't seem possible to run it off only the AC outlet. looks like the cord would be short too. it would be better than regular batteries, but i'm really looking for something i can just sit on the couch with and play while plugged into the wall, without any worry about batteries dying on me. i've seen some clear ones on ebay that look third party, but there must be an official adapter somewhere. thanks anyway!

looking for an original Gameboy AC adapter

I have a Rechargeable Batt. Charger for the Gameboy ... http://assets.catawiki.nl/assets/2011/9/2/2/1/8/21805f10-b7e1-012e-ab68-0050569439b1.jpg like that ... pretty sure that's not what you're looking for though

i was actually offered that same battery charger already, and was told it didn't seem possible to run it off only the AC outlet. looks like the cord would be short too. it would be better than regular batteries, but i'm really looking for something i can just sit on the couch with and play while plugged into the wall, without any worry about batteries dying on me. i've seen some clear ones on ebay that look third party, but there must be an official adapter somewhere. thanks anyway!

Anytime ... always willing to help ^^

Do you guys find eBay to be a good source for games? I'm not looking for anything insane, just a few early Genesis games with box and manual like; Forgotten Worlds, Ghouls n Ghosts, Thunder Force II & III, among others. I looked up Ghouls n Ghosts and it seemed a little steep to me.

Ebay is fine if you don't mind paying the same or more than everyone else. If you're patient and build some good connections on sites like this you can likely score all of those for much cheaper though. Just takes time. If you want to play/have them right away no one is gonna look down on you for going to Ebay route though. :)

i find ebay to be the only option in a lot of cases, unless you have the time or are willing to put in the effort to check all the sale topics of all the forums daily, as well as other auction and store sites. ebay has more up for sale at any one time, and you're less likely to have trouble finding what you need there, though the prices can get crazy. just make sure you learn how to use completed listings and pricecharting.com to find the true value of a game, don't impulse buy just because it's the only available item at the time until you know what the market value on it is.

I second what techwizard said. I'll usually put a bunch of the same game in my watch list and use it to make my own little price chart by looking at the final sale price. If you see something you might want do some homework to learn average prices and keep an eye on the game. Maybe it won't sell and the seller will relist it at a lower price.

Nothing wrong with buying on eBay. I do it a lot. But it's a last resort option once local thrift stores, yard sales, kijiji/craigslist, and sale threads have proven fruitless over a long period of time.

Good luck, my friend.

Thanks for all of your input! I'm in no real rush to buy anything. Probably about 3 months before I start getting eager.

Ebay is a last resort for me.  Trading here online is always the first place i look, then I'll look locally, and then finally Ebay.

No one has mentioned Game Gavel yet.  Great resource.

Wow, I checked out Game Gavel and it's amazing. Thanks!

EDIT - Is there a general price guide for everything or should I just make my own determination from studying eBay and Game Gavel? Is rarityguide.com a good site for this?

http://www.vgpc.com is a decent price indicator if you compare it to other auction sites. However, it doesn't take condition or completeness of a game into account

STAY AWAY FROM RARITYGUIDE. IT'S NO WHERE NEAR CLOSE, EVEN WITH HISTORICAL DATA. Many a time I've been burned by store owners who think RarityGuide is correct, and they charge $600 for a $50 game.

VGPC is typically a good go-to reference. It's best used for trending data, but you can see recent/historical auction prices between the 3 major sites on it: http://videogames.pricecharting.com/

I typically use it to help price bulk lots, or when I'm trying to find where game prices are trending so I can pick something up on a downslope.

EDIT: Rich, it tracks completeness now. Started a couple months ago. Condition is another factor though that's not on it.

Just narrowed down my Atari 2600 search list in an attempt to acquire a few titles to complete my sub-collections of releases by publisher (in many cases, I am 1-2 games away) and a few odds & ends I would like to own. As you may know, the 2600 collection is not one you can realistically complete, so I have found that smaller goals within the collection are the way to go. Here is my list and any help is appreciated. I have updated my main listing on this thread as well. Thanks.

Spider-droid (Froggo)
Dishaster (Zimag)
Up n' Down (Sega)
Pete Rose Baseball (Absolute)
Out of Control (Avalon Hill)
Shuttle Orbiter (Avalon Hill)
Oscar's Trash Race (Atari - kids)
Mr. Do!'s Castle (Parker Bros.)
Q*Bert's Qubes (Parker Bros.)
Motocross Racer/Tomarc the Barbarian (Xonox double-ender)
Robin Hood/Sir Lancelot (Xonox double-ender)
Gremlins
Road Runner

Completely forgot about this thread. Was actually going tp start up a new thread with a similar concept, but since this is here I will just add your lists to my hit list :). Have four large flea markets real close by and run into a large variety of stuff so hopefully I can help you all out a bit :).

Would it make sense to make a master thread for the systems, spin off other threads for people hunting for those systems with the games as a list, and people looking for them? This thread's way too unwieldy for me to check when I'm out looking for others. I know I've got 5 or 6 games that people need, but I don't remember who needs them now.

e.g.
Nintendo NES
Sega Genesis

Nintendo NES thread

Adventures of Rocky & Bullwinkle - GamerNick ($5 OBO, CIB only), ...
Ghoul School - GamerNick, ...

(example used. I knew you needed Rocky, Nick, and I have an extra loose copy. :P )

What I thought would be cool and what I was considering making was a master thread for all want/looking for lists. Something similar to this just instead of having people make lists and linking to them I would like just a master list of games with those who want them.

The OP post would be an explanation about what the thread was for then 3+ spaces would be reserved beneath it for the various systems. Really like having just a straight up list like what GamerNick has in his wanted thread. Such a style would make the list easy to print out for hunters and easier to look up specific request.

Format for the lists would be something like.

ATARI

Atari 2600:

Q*bert (Popeye22: CIB) (YoYo51: Manual) (RickyMartin: Loose)
--------(TomiCru: Box)
Pitfall (RB3: *Loose*) *color code for high priority wants + * symbol in case people print grayscale*

Edit: I personally do not have a want list but I love hunting and plan to go out every weekend I can. Having a list which is easy to read and print would be a huge asset.

I was hunting last weekend with GamerNick and techwizard's wanted lists and kept thinking about how much easier it would be to have one huge print out instead of two multipage lists to go through. Would also help since I had multiple sellers actually take the list and look through their inventory which for whatever reason half of them left in their trunks :X(Renting a stall and putting out only four GC games on the table and having 50 NES carts over 50 feet away in your trunk makes no sense, but whatever floats the sellers boat as I say :P).

I think that would be a much easier way to look for things while hunting.
