@Quackula: That looks incredible. If I had a bigger TV, I'd seriously consider grabbing one of those. I'd love to see SNES games look that incredible on a big screen!
It really shines with anything 240p.
Only issues I've had at all so far is that it takes the thing a bit of time to sync up with a signal. Like a good 5-7 seconds. If you turn on, say, Kirby's Adventure, by the time it all syncs up you've missed the whole "drawing kirby" intro.
Luckily this thing just recently came out though and is still receiving regular firmware updates. I expect that issue to be fixed sooner or later.
This is especially nice because it allows me to consolidate all of my consoles, new and old, around one display. I can also use my nice 5.1 system with everything.
It says it is a mini so is there a larger version that offers more ports?
Especially for the older models. That has plenty of HDMI ports but most TVs have a bunch now anyways.

using you as a moral compass is kinda weird. It's like asking a thief if it's okay to steal something.

There's basically a single input for every supported video type. RGB, S-Video, Composite, Component, and HDMI. You can also feed VGA from a Dreamcast into the RGB port if you use a sync combiner.
If you want more inputs, there's the XRGB-3. Unfortunately it's not as easy to setup or work with, while the mini is very much plug-n-play. It's outdated now too, the Mini is the current version of the XRGB.
Being limited on inputs like that kinda sucks, but I have a planned project for all my switchbox needs for this. When it's all done I'll never have to unplug a cable that isn't a controller. My plan is basically to make custom d-sub cables for every system and switch between them using a bunch of 4-way data switches.

Never heard of this thins but it looks fantastic. Like you said, it's expensive but if you want to get away from the hassles of CRT, this looks like the way to do it. How does it handle aspect ratios? Will it just run the game in a 4:3 box in the center of the screen?

You've got options for it. 4:3 will be centered, like anything SD you'd watch on your TV. 16:9, naturally, will fill the screen. There's handy buttons on the remote to change the aspect ratio.
There's even a zoom function to fix the borders when you try to play PSP games via the PSP's video out.
EDIT: found some great comparison images. These aren't mine, they belong to a user on shmups.system11.org

one of them is the XRGB-Mini going into an HDTV, the other is a Sony PVM CRT monitor, which is one of the best gaming CRTs you can get. It's insanely close.

Another small haul at that small game store. $30 for it all. Not great, not bad.

^.^
Love me some Bemani games.
I'm nuts about bemani stuff. I was pretty irritated when Guitar Hero and Rock Band came out and people flocked to them and got all the credit for being the pioneers of the music game genre....even though bemani had been rolling out those types of games for years before hand.

Nope no run disk
its no big deal it was atttached to a gamecube I bought so I removed the player, and returned the gamecube, so i got my money back. I am will probably end up losing thrift store karma points for doing that.
great find by the way. I can see that your cat is taking a whiff of the thrift store smell

i found mine attached to a gamecube with no play disc too. i held onto the gamecube though because it was black to match the player, and the one i had before it was grey. i'm keeping the grey though because it has the digital AV output that the black doesn't have.

Yeah, i got a purple one with a digital a/v out, but I needed the money more than two gamecubes. Not really gamecube collector, but I like the idea of playing my gameboy advance games on it.

The GBPlayer disc alone will cost you as much as just buying a player that already includes it. Nintendo used to sell those discs separately on their website, but not anymore it seems.

Hey now!
After a bit of a drought, I've been finding some decent thrift scores lately:
CIB PS2 games, $1.95 each:
-
Indiana Jones & the Staff of Kings
- Mobile Suit Gundam SEED: Never Ending Tomorrow
- SiRen
Game Boy Color carts, both for $2.49:
-
Portal Runner
- Little Mermaid II Pinball
- CIB
Mario Kart 7
, $9.99
I grabbed the following for just under $20.00:
CIB PS1 games:
-
Resident Evil Director's Cut
(Greatest Hits)
-
Blazing Dragons
- Lemmings & Oh No! More Lemmings
- Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain
- Pandemonium 2
- Centipede
aaand...
- CIB
Donkey Konga 2
for GameCube
I also grabbed a CIB
Super Monkey Ball: Touch & Roll
DS game for
$5.95
$4.95 after the $1-off coupon was applied
Rounding out the score was a curious find: a sealed
Cheats! Volume 2
book on backing board. Normally I'd be too cheap to pay the $3.99 asking price for this, but I found the packaging so interesting, I figured what the hell. Now I'm debating whether I should open it or not. I wouldn't want destroy its value as a super-rare collector's item...
Seriously, though, if anybody knows why this
Cheats!
book is packaged like this, I'd really like to know.
Now before I go, I must warn you of the risks of other RF Gen denizens knowing where you live.
For example, yesterday I found a package on my doorstep containing the following items:
Which were accompanied by the following note:
I WILL! just wait, you'll see!
Needless to say, there are some real sickies out there. So be
very
careful with whom you share your contact info.
