I agree.  My ancestors were Irish and German, but I don't have a clue what the hell Irish or German culture is actually like.  Sure, my grandma does a little, but that doesn't really count.  Hell, I know more about South American culture than I do European.

I know I'm not European, my ancestry is German, French, Norwegian, Dutch, and more.  I don't try to act European.  I know nothing of European culture.  Although if it comes too moving I'd probably rather go the Netherlands because the rain would make me feel more at home.
