Unions aren't the only problem with not motivating work. Kroger, for instance, has their stocking departments keep track of how fast they stock the shelves. If you do it too fast they won't let your store hire any more help to your department for a set amount of time, even if someone leaves...in the meantime the back room fills with unstocked merchandise we don't have time to stock and then the managers get pissed at us Tongue

So if we work slow, we get to hire more people, meaning less work for us, but if we work fast we are left undermanned. Hmm, decisions decisions...

Well there I was writing my classics lit pap when I look down and see...ANTS!!!!!!!

Hundreds of ants crawling in a line to a plate I had left sitting on my floor. The plate was coated with the arthropods, I picked it up, the ants crawled up, and tried to eat, my arm, I cursed their mothers and washed the fuckers down the sink. Then, while looking for a flamethrower to finish the matter, I found some pesticide chalk (no idea where it came from, but it's chalk and pesticide) and with it drew a pentagram around the remaining ants to summon the pesticide chalk god. Now I sit back and watch as they die in horrible agony and wish I had started this paper sooner and would stop getting distracted by ants and stop writing run on sentences.

I'm not so sure about that. What they will do, however, is drive the quality down.  Toyotas as high quality because every employee is there because they do a good job and not because the company can't get rid of them.   (There were too many becauses in that sentence... oh well.)

Henry Ford had an alternative to this situation.  He offered what was called a "working wage."  (At least I think that was the term.)  Every assembly line worker recieved $5 a day (a very high wage for the time.)  With the wages this high, his workers put more effort into the product, increasing both production numbers and quality.

Ford astonished the world in 1914 by offering a $5 a day wage that more than doubled the rate of most of his workers. The move proved extremely profitable. Instead of constant turnover of employees, the best mechanics in Detroit flocked to Ford, bringing in their human capital and expertise, raising productivity, and lowering training costs. Ford called it "wage motive."
What I meant was... Does a person who bolts on seats deserve to make $20 + an hour? The wages paid to those people has to make the overall cost go up. I know materials have increased, but wages and health care have to make an impact too.

Does anyone deserve to make what they make?  That is completely subjective.

The thing that would fix the problem is a nice bout of anarchy.

Had fun start to Spring Break.
Found a couple TVs, PC monitor, and a huge microwave in the trash.  We tied them to the back of the truck and dragged until the cords ripped out.  Then we threw them out watched them explode.  Great fun Grin
The microwave was the best.  After a few rounds of dragging, there wasn't much left, so when I got up to 60mph, it actually started to fly.

Ooo sounds like fun, where do you live? I'll bring my baseball bat for those parking lot fillers.

I'm in KC, Missouri. So far the day has been ok, got to work early and blocked one entrance. Of course the parade starts in two hours so the fun has yet to start.

I helped my friend move house today. He packed the bags which I then took down three floors of stairs to my illegally parked car. He helped with the sofa, though. It only took two trips of about a mile each way to get everything there in my estate car. The heaviest bag was the food. He filled a suitcase with "what he needs", which was mostly cartons of soya milk. If a litre weighs about 1kg, the bag must have been about 25kg (About 60lbs?) with the other stuff that was in it.

His new flat is much nicer than his grotty old one. He was sharing a flat with two other people and it was a bit of a dump. I wouldn't have eaten anything from that kitchen. There was grease all over every surface. My friend is a smoker, so his bedroom window was covered in smoke residue. yuck

The new flat is only three rooms, four if you count the hallway and it needs carpets and curtains.

It's a very nice day. The last three or four days have shown the start of Spring. Around 13-16c and sunny. I'm in a good mood except my arms are aching from the heavy lifting. Dad's home from the hospital as well. Smiley It's one of those days where I want to be outside and I've got some energy to actually bother doing things. Winter is very depressing because it's week after week of greyness.

Dear God I am so sick...been sick for days and it's not going away....my head feels like it's going to asplode and I can't stop sneezing.  On top of that, my wife and 2 year old have it too.  So right now being the Dad sucks because I have to help my sick wife take care of our much sicker daughter, who has cried non-stop since 6am this morning.  I can't believe I made it to the computer...it hurts to walk.  Think I'll put a warning sign on our front door....

It's the English term for a Station Wagon.

Sedan = Saloon
Station Wagon = Estate
Compact = Hatchback (?)
SUV = 4X4, although the term SUV is taking over now that a lot of them are only two wheel drive.
Caravan = People Carrier/MPV
Trailer = Caravan
Huh = Trailer, towed by a vehicle to carry general stuff but not to live in.
Semi = Lorry/Truck

I wonder what people from school are doing these days. I saw someone yesterday coming out of the chippy. She walked to her car which was a Vauxhall Nova. I had to laugh. She's such a slutty dork, if you can imagine such a thing.

During secondary school I had two main friends. I used to say one of them was my best friend. We were a trio but I and that friend always picked on the other one. It wasn't just teasing, we were ripping the shit out of him. In reality, the person we picked on was my best friend. We're still good friends now, which shows how strong our friendship is. I feel really bad about all the years of childish torment we gave him. Whenever I invite old friends over, when they're back from wherever they are now, this friend always makes a gap in his plans to come over, which is more than can be said about other "friends". Things we used to tease him for are now "inside jokes" that we laugh about. I was picked on a lot by everyone during secondary school, and I put all that energy into bullying this friend.

The trouble now is that all my good friends have gone off to do their own thing and the only people available to talk to are just acquaintances. I suppose that's life. You make friends, you lose friends. People move on. I'm a very sentimental person, I hold on to ideals and don't want to change my ways.

I regret the past and yet I long for it to come back.

People always used to tell me "School days are the best days". In hindsight, I remember the good times. I promised myself while I was in school that I would never look back and wish I was there. I don't. But I do miss the friendships I had.
