I bought a printer/scanner today but the damn thing scans with multicoloured stripes all over it.

If I can't sort it out I'll have to take it back.

 grrr

Edit: I've sort of got it not to scan with coloured stripes - By scanning at 1200 dpi then resizing it.  Undecided

Return it.

I second that. Scanning at 1200 DPI takes way to long.

It's actually not bad with light colours. Two examples here, both at either 200 or 300dpi. You can see in the cover the gold at the top is ok but the darker bits are awful.

Thats not a problem with the scanner.  Thats what the thing actually looks like.  Get out a magnifying glass and take a closer look.

It's how the box is printed.

I'm aware of the dots made by printers. My dad has been in the printing business for a few years. Tongue

The picture of the manual was an example of how it looks ok with lighter colours. Could you scan a box and show me the stripes, though?

Sorry, I dont have a scanner.

But I think these are the "lines" you are seeing.

I'm going to back down and sort of admit I'm wrong because I've scanned some Mega Drive games and they don't have the lines. But the first thing I scanned was a Spectrum manual which is mostly black and doesn't have the dots. It was very stripey, which surprised me at first.

I'll do some more scanning and see how it goes.

You shouldn't get this effect with very light or very dark colors, because the dots will either be too small to notice or so large that they blend together.  It doesn't look like the scanner is faulty, this is what you should expect.  You may be able to get around it by scanning at a really high rez and then scaling it down, as long as the program you use to scale it down will blend rather than just choose a random pixel.
