Actually, he went on to a distinguished career as an NYPD detective assigned to the "Major Case Squad."

Before that, however, he took up farming, but gave up on that career choice after being forced to host a giant extraterrestrial cockroach inside his body.

As for the D.I.: in spite of the chest shot, he made a full recovery...
