We're back on Google Play!
'Get

After an absence from the Google Play Store, we have returned! There aren't a lot of changes yet, but we have added some consoles that have been unavailable in the app since the last update, including the Nintendo Switch!

Because of how this had to be released, this will not be an update to the existing app on your phone. If you install the new one on the Play Store, you will end up with 2 icons. I would recommend uninstalling the old one, install the new one from the Play Store, sign in, and you're done! I think if we weren't removed from the store, we might have been able to make it work as a regular update, but because of how things played out, that's what we have to do.

Personally, I would like to thank everyone for their patience while we were getting everything ironed out. Things moved a little more slowly than I wanted, but ultimately, they are complete now.

If you are unable to use the Google Play Store for whatever reason, contact me and I can get you a link to the latest APK file as well.

We have already found a few bugs that need to be ironed out. If you find anything, or if you just want to discuss the app, please join the conversation in the topic found here: http://www.rfgeneration.c...um/index.php?topic=8931.0

Have a happy Halloween and don't forget that November 1 is Play Your Vectrex Day!

Thanks again for bringing this back from the dead!  This was the major deciding factor for me when I decided to use this site to track my collection.

This is very encouraging to hear. I've had a few occasions recently to show off the app to other collectors at the local thrifts and used-media stores I frequent. However, when I'd tell them it was no longer available to download, there was disappointment all around: their disappointment at its lack of availability, and my disappointment over the missed opportunity to expand the RF Gen user base. Now the only disappointment I'll encounter is from people who don't have an Android phone. I'm hoping, however, there's someone working on that...?

@Zagnorch:  It's definitely something we would love to offer. It's less of a technical issue and more of a cost factor. Not something we can currently budget or that we would like to charge for, since all of the other services we offer for our site are free.  In conclusion, Yah Apple!!.... Sad

Hey, congrats on getting this live again!

@theGrue: Thanks for leaving your stuff up on Github! I took the first batch and just added the new consoles, but then just made some changes that allowed me to update the API to a newer version of some things.

I'm hoping to be able to add some functionality at some point, but things are a little busy at home.

I'm trying to keep compatibility as well with older versions, but at a certain point, we're maintaining code for versions that make up less than 1% of current Android users. Right now, the API level we're at covers 98.8% of current Android devices.

I'd like to be able to get up to API 21, giving us easy access to Material Design without worrying about maintaining a bunch of code that matches different APIs. If we made the change now, it would potentially alienate over 20% of the market.

@Zagnorch: iOS is our biggest request. singlebanana nailed the reasoning though. The costs involved plus the fact that we would want it to be a free app as well make it a tough sell for us financially at this point.

@bickman2k: I'm on Jelly Bean (4.3, API level 18)

nice! I hope you can add a submit button at some point, easy to add photos and info. Smiley Thanks for your hard work.

@mumboking: You're the guy!

For transparency, in the developer console, I can see versions of the OS that the app is installed on.

It looks like there is a way to basically support multiple APKs for the same app. So, theoretically, I could implement a new version now that is API 21 with Material Design and leave the older one as API 16 for some time and basically only implement console updates and bug fixes and not necessarily newer versions.
