This bad boy was used by the military to train soldiers back in the day. Certainly beats owning a Super Scope I presume? Currently, the high bid is at $36, but you know, there is still six days left in the auction. It should also be noted that you'll need special simulation cartridges to use this light gun. Fortunately, the seller also has an auction going on one of those as well. Currently, the cartridge sits at $26. This is one of my favorite pieces of hardware. The gun itself is not an M16, but rather a Jager AP-74 in a .22 long caliber. It was at one time a functional rifle, but has been completely de-commissioned to be used as a trainer. The weight is pretty close from my experience with both a real M16 and the MACS rifle, but I'm only speaking from feel and have never had both in my hands at the same time. There were an estimated 600 rifles made.
The software is very impressive in what it teaches, much more so than I expected. There are 2 carts available for it and both have shown up in various revisions. The first cart teaches the fundamentals of shooting. The user is presented both stationary and moving targets at various ranges to shoot. The software grades the shooter on many different factors including smoothness, trigger control, breath control, and accuracy. The second cart I have, but have not tried yet. It's called Moving Target Simulator and I believe it's closer to a combat simulator than a target shoot. I will pull the cart out and give it a shot in the next few days to report better on what it does.
Overall, this is one of the coolest accessories for any system. It was never released to the public, so not too many people will ever own one. From speaking with a friend of mine that is ex Army, this was mainly used as a remedial solution for weak shooters. However, it was not unheard of for troops to 'fail' their shooting tests in order to have access to the system as it was typically used in the barracks so troops would gain access to a 13" tv as part of the setup.
