So for some reason I started thinking about PS2 games that could go online. I decided to start researching which ones might still have their servers online, and I found a pretty awesome site: http://www.ps2onlinegaming.com/ which is apparently still pretty active. I also did some poking around elsewhere and found that it was quite possible for me to take my PS2 games online even using my 60GB PS3. Considering how many of us have large collections of PS2 games, I thought it'd be fun to organize an informative guide outlining the process of getting online, and which games are still online so that we can all try to play some last-gen games together live.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Getting Online

If you're playing with a fat PS2, then you obviously need the Network Adapter. Here's the GameStop link: http://www.gamestop.com/ps2/accessories ... pter/20463 ...$15 isn't too bad. Just do a local zipcode search.

If you're playing with a slim PS2 or a backwards compatible PS3, then you're all set. The Network Adapter is built into the slim PS2, and the PS3 will just use your PS3's wi-fi or ethernet.

Whether you're using a PS2 or backward compatible PS3 you need to save a network setup profile to your PS2 (or virtual) memory card. To do so you can use the official Network Setup Disc that came with the PS2 Network Adapter, or there are quite a few games that have a network setup utility as a feature on them.

PS2 Games That Include Network Setup Utility*

*I snatched this list from the link above, but it's not complete. For instance, I found the setup utility on my copy of Madden 2005 Collector's Edition, so I added it to the list myself. If you find other games that have this utility, please let me know so I can add it. Worst case scenario, someone might need to find a cheap used 99 cent game from this list to setup their network settings.

And now the good stuff -- which games can we still play online?

Personally, I haven't set this up yet myself, but link with info/download is here: http://www.teamxlink.co.uk/?go=games

Thats very good info, thanks for sharing.

I remember being so super impressed that a co-worker and I could play Resident Evil Outbreak online with each other on our PS2s. I still have the USB keyboard I purchased specifically so we could chat between games.

I also remember purchasing the HUGE FFXI box that came with the network adaptor and then realizing it was an MMO and never opening it. Wish I would have held onto that one.

Other than that I didnt really tinker around with the online functions since almost none of the other online games appealed to me.

Still have my FFXI box sitting on a shelf above my TV.

I used to love GameStop for having those network adapters for so cheap.  I used to resell them all the time for $45 easy.

Awesome! I might have to get into MY PS2 games during the Holiday season when I have some time off!

Thanks for sharing this noiseredux!

I am one of the admins from ps2onlinegaming.com. Somebody just showed me this post and I thought it was cool our site was mentioned. I've been on the digital press forum for awhile and always saw the link to this site and I have even visited here a few times. I never got around to registering though until now, but this seems like a cool place.

Back to ps2 stuff. For the list of which ps2 games are still online we have a list on our site that took that wikipedia list and updated it a bit and fixed some errors:

http://www.ps2onlinegaming.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=17

Deerhunter and Family Feud are basically offline by the way. It's impossible to connect to anyone with those games, even though you can take those games online partially. More info is at that link too. Also, Band of Conquer isn't a game that exists as far as I know. They probably mixed that up with the Brothers in Arms games which are still online in North America.

Maybe someone could do a list for PSP games?

PSP hasn't even been phased out yet...

Nice, I like it!

@Shadow Kisuragi:Actually multiple games have had their online removed.
