Title: Re: RF Generation Collectorcast Episode 12 Post by: techwizard on February 21, 2013, 09:40:08 PM hmm i have a friend coming to spend the whole weekend here but really want to listen to this. maybe i'll see if he wants to give it a listen too (or force him to if he doesn't want to :D). also i don't remember the rules about what you have to do to get your scores talked about, was it to donate to the collectorcast itself or to RFG or either? i was one of those late donors and might be getting some scores tomorrow (hopefully) so it'd be cool to get them mentioned in ep 13 :) .
Title: Re: RF Generation Collectorcast Episode 12 Post by: Zagnorch on February 21, 2013, 10:43:30 PM Hey now!
My fave bits from the latest collectorcast, hour one: 12:55- Bil proclaims, “I’m like the Ernie Hudson of this show.” Now he should really drive the point home by making Winston Zeddmore his RFGen avatar for a while. It can even be the cartoon one if he likes. 13:28- “Bil the Keymaster”… I like it! 16:01- “When are you gonna get to the GOOD stuff (RetroRage) is doing?” BURN! 18:20- Uh-ohhh… “smack talk”??? Why do I have the feeling no good is gonna come from this? :paranoid: 18:21-19:24- Yeah, well, see if I contribute to an RFGen donation drive ever again, guys… >:( 21:18- “Watch the fog subside slightly.” No kidding, right? 21:55-22:02- Cool story, Bil. ::) 24:38- “I AM a Poke-dude,” proclaims the Crabmaster. Yeah, well I AM highly disappointed by this appalling revelation. 24:53- “I don’t judge people who enjoy their Pokemon.” Well, you really ought to, Bil. It’s tons of fun, and it’ll make you feel better about yourself. I know it does for me, especially when I fire up my SKylanders setup… 26:48- “How can you not like that thing (Pikachu N64)?” Oh, where to begin… 30:48-31:02- I’m glad to see there’s at least one person out there with some integrity. Don’t let everybody else calling you a pussy get’cha down… 33:24- “I wanna buy the egg-crapper guy!” I blew bits of half-chewed M&Ms in laughter all over my laptop when I heard this one. Now I’ll think of that quote every time I play a Yoshi game. BTW you owe me a bottle of Windex and a cleaning cloth, Bil. 38:19- Don’t bother askin’ me, I honestly haven’t a freakin’ clue. 39:50- Wempster’s user name is based on something pretty mundane… but you’ll hafta ask him to explain it. 40:10 “Does it bother anybody else that we have a whole genre dedicated to snowboarding?” I’m not bothered by it—I merely ignore it. Just like I do all of the genres I am indifferent to. 40:39- “A butt-load of crap” is the pet name Crabby gives to his collection. 40:49- Yesss, let the hate flow through you! Title: Re: RF Generation Collectorcast Episode 12 Post by: Duke.Togo on February 21, 2013, 10:55:43 PM hmm i have a friend coming to spend the whole weekend here but really want to listen to this. maybe i'll see if he wants to give it a listen too (or force him to if he doesn't want to :D). also i don't remember the rules about what you have to do to get your scores talked about, was it to donate to the collectorcast itself or to RFG or either? i was one of those late donors and might be getting some scores tomorrow (hopefully) so it'd be cool to get them mentioned in ep 13 :) . The donation scores read was just a part of the fundraising drive. To get in the next show you'll have to earn it by getting something really cool for us to talk about. Or give me money. Either works ;) Title: Re: RF Generation Collectorcast Episode 12 Post by: Zagnorch on February 22, 2013, 12:14:24 AM My fave bits, hour 2:
1:07:39- “Maybe we could do some Men at Work, also.” Well, as long as you’re taking requests: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MOuEYSJCFqE 1:10:21- “I would love to get (SingleBanana) on here to talk us up on some pinball.” You and me both, Crabz. 1:16:51- “Crabby, you’re weird.” Well, if you guys ever decide to market Collectorcast ringtones, that statement should be one of the options. 1:19:44- “Your brother’s an idiot.” And another CollectorCast ringtone is born. 1:22:05- “I hate him so much that I’m gonna build him again so I can kill him again!” Damn, Crabby, you just sold me on CastleVania 2 like you used to do with your Unloved blog selections! Good goin’, kid! 1:27:10- “Let’s go to Mach 17… in my Ford Taurus!” Thanks for coming up with my latest tag line, guys… 1:35:07- Ah yes, the TransFormers Famicom game, which a certain host of a certain gaming show tried his hand at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=poYnlJSYrRQ 1:35:33- Actually, it’s Ultra Magnus on the cover. So what are you saying, that all TransFormers look the same? Racist… 1:37:41- Will do. 1:41:56- With the… underpants?! What, your Pokemon fandom wasn't pervy enough?! 1:42:00- Oh gee whiz, I can’t imagine why. ::) All right, it's off to bed with me. Nighters... Title: Re: RF Generation Collectorcast Episode 12 Post by: understatement on February 22, 2013, 01:29:12 PM Ha, did you guys really want to read off all those NES games, because it was definitely closer to 160 than 60. Now I feel obligated to donate (I was going to do it anyway at some point) even though the only reason I got the honorable mention is because GamerNick's scores must be in next months show; Talk about foreshadowing! So, after I'm done here I'll go pledge the $20... since you've guilt-tripped me into it. ;) <-*TEST*
It was cool that you guys mentioned the Sharp NES TV, that thing needs more love. I definitely love mine, I got real lucky too it's got all the feet and doors so it looks amazing also for shame for even joking about breaking feet off. :nono: By-far it's one of the best ways to play NES games IMO although I try to stay off of it as much as possible because the pins are a pain to reach to fix or replace but from time to time I partake in the greatness. That should be a future topic collecting oddities that most haven't heard of or seen in person. You’ll probably just see some crappy Star Wars level with Jar Jar Binks in Epic Mickey 3." http://www.youtube.com/embed/C-DeI3ohVbY?start=391&end=411 2:29:45- I totally dug the Genesis version of Beavis & Butt-head, myself. My fave level had to be them squishing spiders while bouncing around on pogo sticks. I gotta dig that one out again and fire ‘er up… 2:32:00- Duke… that’s just not right. I’m beggin’ ya, get some help. You keep this up, and I’ll hafta get Bil & Crabby to do an intervention. 2:32:30- Hey, I’m with you on this whole killing-of-JarJar thing, Bil. Let’s get a treatment together to pitch to the execs, whattaya say? Heck, he already has a True Hollywood Story special: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SMNfhwO44Yk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=160DniO2Z-Q 2:33:02- ROCKIN’ WITH DOKKEN! WOOOO!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nQb1t_Yw0S8 Is my 80’s-ness showing? 2:41:30- “And as you’ll find out shortly, we won’t know what the hell we’re talking about, but hopefully it’s amusing.” It sure is, my good man. 2:44:00-2:45:00- Where’s the Rosetta Stone when you need it? Title: Re: RF Generation Collectorcast Episode 12 Post by: techwizard on February 25, 2013, 10:03:38 PM what do you guys usually use to do the actual recording over, skype?
Title: Re: RF Generation Collectorcast Episode 12 Post by: Fleach on February 25, 2013, 10:05:05 PM Considering your Circumstances you guys do great. I know there's only a Ghost of a Chance, but I'd love you guys in The Camera Eye.
Title: Re: RF Generation Collectorcast Episode 12 Post by: wildbil52 on February 25, 2013, 10:09:37 PM what do you guys usually use to do the actual recording over, skype? Yes, we use Skype but we each record our own audio and then Duke Splices them together later. It's the only way to get solid audio all the way around and not have to rely on the integrity of our network connections for audio recording. Also, it eliminates latency. Title: Re: RF Generation Collectorcast Episode 12 Post by: techwizard on February 25, 2013, 10:12:02 PM wow that makes it all the more impressive, the show always sounds like one seamless conversation, i assumed you were all talking over something at the same time.

Title: Re: RF Generation Collectorcast Episode 12 Post by: Fleach on February 25, 2013, 10:37:47 PM I didn't realize so much work went into putting these podcasts together. Wouldn't something like Garage Band work to record the conversations (I think at one point Duke said he's a Mac guy)?
You guys are doing an awesome job working with what you have. Keep it up! Title: Re: RF Generation Collectorcast Episode 12 Post by: Duke.Togo on February 25, 2013, 11:03:32 PM It's much more time consuming doing it the way we do, but the audio quality is head and shoulders above shows that do it all over Skype.
The conversation itself happens over Skype in real time, but the actual audio that goes into the show is locally recorded on each person's machine. Then we put them all back together again and edit. Each person's audio is as good as it gets that way. Title: Re: RF Generation Collectorcast Episode 12 Post by: techwizard on February 26, 2013, 12:03:43 AM It's much more time consuming doing it the way we do, but the audio quality is head and shoulders above shows that do it all over Skype. Title: Re: RF Generation Collectorcast Episode 12 Post by: NES_Rules on February 28, 2013, 02:44:54 PM Only an hour or so into the episode so far.
If you don't recognize the name CoinCollector, go to the Steam section of the DB. His name will become very familiar to you. So far, I believe this episode has the record for saying my name the most. I don't know why, but it always makes me smile. And "colored baseball" really did make me laugh out loud. 18:21-19:24- Yeah, well, see if I contribute to an RFGen donation drive ever again, guys… >:( If you want to wear dresses, we'll still be happy to take your money. Game Gaveling so i got a chance to finally sit down and listen to it. EDIT FALSE On the old Pokemons you could trade your pokemon from game to game to game if you wanted. Trading from Red/Yellow/Blue to Gold/Silver/Crystal would cause some pokemon to actually end up holding items which was not something the older games had as a feature. Not sure what has gone on since the series moved to the DS. Was there an import feature you would use with multiple Game Boys and the link cable? you went into a pokemon center and they had a room which was essentially the multiplayer menu, where you could either trade pokemon via link cable, or battle them against your friend's. i think the item thing was just in gold/silver and maybe later games where while doing a normal pokemon trade sometimes a pokemon would be holding an item when you recieved it. Title: Re: RF Generation Collectorcast Episode 12 Post by: Duke.Togo on March 01, 2013, 11:51:09 PM So would the transferred Pokemon keep their level, or would you just unlock it and have to level it again in the new game?
Title: Re: RF Generation Collectorcast Episode 12 Post by: techwizard on March 02, 2013, 12:01:57 AM it kept it's level, it was a trade of the exact pokemon you had, there weren't any sort of "unlocking" of pokemon :P. every pokemon could be uniquely named too, and even that was transferred over.
Title: Re: RF Generation Collectorcast Episode 12 Post by: Izret101 on March 02, 2013, 11:46:38 AM So would the transferred Pokemon keep their level, or would you just unlock it and have to level it again in the new game? Would keep its level. As Crabby mentioned the games had(still has?) much more depth than anyone who has not played them would expect. I get the urge to play through them from time to time but then i think about how many thousands of hours i already put into them and decide against it lol Title: Re: RF Generation Collectorcast Episode 12 Post by: RetroRage on March 02, 2013, 05:08:02 PM I'm really glad i didn't get into pokemon. Title: Re: RF Generation Collectorcast Episode 12 Post by: Zagnorch on March 02, 2013, 06:16:14 PM I'm really glad i didn't get into pokemon. That and WoW At the height of its popularity, I saw first-hand the damage that Pokemon did to people of all ages. The selfishness, the anger over not getting a holofoil card in a pack, the downright weirdness of the sizable basement-dwelling-fanboy segment... it was just horrible. I still have occasional nightmares of those dreadful days. It's a big reason why I got into gaming; it's helped to deaden the emotional pain of those dark times. 'Course, if you want to experience real emotional damage, try spending an afternoon with several Warhammer 40k enthusiasts as they play a battle out. After doing that, you'll get down on your knees and pray for a nuclear holocaust. But enough of my rose-colored happy-go-lucky outlook on life. How are you doing? Title: Re: RF Generation Collectorcast Episode 12 Post by: RetroRage on March 02, 2013, 07:26:58 PM I'm doing fantastic. I was/am a Magic The Gathering man myself in fact that’s about the only “finds” I’ve been getting lately I guess I should join a Magic forum to show them off. I hope I’m not considered a basement-dwelling-fanboy now, even though I probably am. ;D
'Course, if you want to experience real emotional damage, try spending an afternoon with several Warhammer 40k enthusiasts as they play a battle out. For next year's donor prize, I say Bil hums the entire soundtrack to Super Metroid and records it for anyone who donates above $50. I know I'd pay $50 for that anyway.

Yes i still have not finished the cast. Haven't been able to actually listen to 12 or 13 all the way through yet. EDIT Really late to the party. Someonehas probably already filled you guys in... Mortal Kombat 4 was the last to be numbered. Deadly Alliance was MK 5. The blade artwork on the front made a roman numeral-esque 5. From here on numbering in any fashion stopped. It wouldn't have made sense anyways. UMK3, Trilogy, Tournament, Mythos, Special Forces and Shaolin Monks all broke the number system anyways, Deception was 6 Armageddon 7 vs. DCU "8" Mortal Kombat 2012 was "9" Title: Re: RF Generation Collectorcast Episode 12 Post by: Duke.Togo on April 11, 2013, 05:16:52 PM Yea R-Type LOVE! You know it. Deadly Alliance was MK 5. The blade artwork on the front made a roman numeral-esque 5. I knew I had seen a roman numeral 5, but didn't realize it wasn't in the official title.
