Title: Laserdiscs Post by: Falconhood on March 31, 2013, 02:31:15 PM What? There's no thread for the format that ran from 1978-2000, 22 years, providing great quality for movie lovers? Well, NOW there is! I love laserdiscs! Who else loves this format?
I love the size, the art, the quality. Sure BluRays are better, but DVDs were NOT, no matter what techies will claim. I love the size, and how the art on the cover and inside some looks. Title: Re: Laserdiscs Post by: Crazy_Opossum on March 31, 2013, 02:49:29 PM What?!?! you do know they hold ALOT less than dvds...
but yeah... i love my laserdiscs even tho i only have one movie for my player (Night Patrol) but yeah laserdiscs are awesome Title: Re: Laserdiscs Post by: Falconhood on March 31, 2013, 03:37:32 PM What?!?! you do know they hold ALOT less than dvds... no they don't! I can put an entire dinner on a laser disc, but on a DVD you can just put a hamburger, but no fries.Title: Re: Laserdiscs Post by: Crazy_Opossum on March 31, 2013, 03:54:43 PM well all and all ... LaserDisc is the best format IMO... especially if you get one of the players that can play both sides without flipping over
Title: Re: Laserdiscs Post by: Falconhood on March 31, 2013, 04:09:07 PM There are techies that say that DVDS can produce more something per inch or something...but just because it CAN doesn't mean it DOES. IMO:
BRD>LD>DVD>VHS>VCD and i'm not sure where to put CED since i've never owned the player. Title: Re: Laserdiscs Post by: Crazy_Opossum on March 31, 2013, 04:20:00 PM well CED is a lot like LD if I had to make a list like yours it would be
LD>CED>BRD>BetaMax>VHS I completely missed the DVD era... I never had a dvd player and never saw a movie in that format so ... thats my list :P Title: Re: Laserdiscs Post by: Falconhood on March 31, 2013, 05:31:12 PM but DVDs are still sold and play on BRPs...wow, that's unusual. Either way, I have a ton of DVDs since they are more easy to acquire, and cheaper.
Title: Re: Laserdiscs Post by: Crazy_Opossum on March 31, 2013, 08:17:30 PM well I wasnt ... that into movies and everything I wanted was on tv and I just taped it on VHS or DVR and put it on my comp so I never had a need for dvds ... I got a 3d BRP because I wanted to see the movies in 3d... so yeah... I missed the dvd era
Title: Re: Laserdiscs Post by: Falconhood on April 01, 2013, 08:14:15 AM I joined this forum to look at the collection of BIGUNS, but this forum won't allow me to look-up that member. it's rather strange. But he is into Laserdiscs and is located near me.

I never had a dvd player and never saw a movie in that format so ... thats my list :P The DVD era technically isn't over. They haven't quit printing movies on DVD yet, and I have a feeling it'll be a a while before they do, considering most people don't see upgrading to Blu-Ray as something special like going from VHS to DVD was. Title: Re: Laserdiscs Post by: Crazy_Opossum on April 13, 2013, 07:42:26 PM I just haven't felt the need to since all the movies I want to watch I can get on BRD I dont really want to see dvds
Title: Re: Laserdiscs Post by: Sauza12 on April 13, 2013, 08:26:27 PM I'd love to get my hands on a Laserdisc player and some laserdiscs, but they are just non existent around here. I haven't seen one since they were still being sold at stores and even then it was really, really rare.
Title: Re: Laserdiscs Post by: ReddMcKnight on June 20, 2013, 03:39:22 AM Ah, the Laserdisc. I love it. I actually have a Japanese Copy of The Wizard (Nintendo Movie) on LD.

I haven't seen one since they were still being sold at stores and even then it was really, really rare. I have an extra player and some duplicate discs... Shipping might be expensive though. Title: Re: Laserdiscs Post by: Cryptid Collector on August 23, 2013, 03:11:31 PM There's a whole milk carton of them at the flea market store down here, but I've never seen a player around.

I think I have 3 players now. I think I have 3 players now. They must have sold poorly around here, I've never seen one(nor any discs outside that one place) Title: Re: Laserdiscs Post by: The Metamorphosing Leon on August 30, 2013, 03:03:08 PM I don't think I've ever seen a player either. There's usually a few discs floating around the Half-Price Books around here, but never seen a player in my life, I don't think.

EDIT Also i loved this: What?!?! you do know they hold ALOT less than dvds... no they don't! I can put an entire dinner on a laser disc, but on a DVD you can just put a hamburger, but no fries.Title: Re: Laserdiscs Post by: Sauza12 on September 03, 2013, 07:04:25 PM Listen, April Fool's thread or not Laserdiscs are amazing. I have a couple of good ones, texas chainsaw massacre, shawshank redemption, and big trouble in little china come to mind.
Title: Re: Laserdiscs Post by: The Metamorphosing Leon on August 11, 2014, 08:44:04 PM Wtf, I thought you were in jail.
Title: Re: Laserdiscs Post by: gbpxl on December 25, 2014, 09:23:42 PM the problem with laserdisc is that they transmit a 4:3 picture in most cases, similar with VHS. even if the film you are watching is 2.35:1 ratio, it's going to appear as a thin rectangle inside of a 4:3 box inside of your 16:9 TV screen. At that point you might as well be watching it with binoculars.
