Title: Nes game broke my Nes....
Post by: SparkB on February 23, 2008, 09:18:42 PM
Hey there, i  was wondering if this has happened to any on  you, i recently bought an   nes game and put it in  the nes, then when i wanted to take it out, it seemed harder than usual to  remove it, but when  i did get it out,  it sounded as if something was pulled out with it lol. I  put in another game, and it worked fine,  but then i put the original game back in,  and again, it seemed very  hard ot get  out. So i decided to take the nes apart  and check it out,  and of course, some of the pins of the connector were slightly bent up....as if the game somehow haulded them up. This was a new connector i put in last year, but its definetely the games fault, since it never happened before. Anything i  can  do to the game?? to make sure it doesnt do this when i buy a new connector?? Besides smash it to pieces lol

Thanks!!

Unfortunately many of those replacement pin connectors are pure garbage. It's hard finding who makes the good ones and who doesn't. I've seen firsthand how some of those things perform. I had one that bent and pretty much broke with the first game I put into the machine.

There's no substitute for the original. You have to disassemble the machine to change it anyway, you might as well clean up, and bend if necessary, the original factory installed one. You'll never find an aftermarket one that will be as well made or last as long in the long run.

You more than likely just got lucky that it had lasted this long. Do yourself a favor and get some 180 grit sandpaper and a white eraser and go to town on an original pin connector. Clean it up every couple of years or so, (it'll only take a half hour at most) and you'll have it for many years to come. ;)

What game was it?  Was it an "unlicensed" NES game?

Thanks for the update, although  i  tossed the old pin connectors for both my  nes... lol thinking the new ones from ebay  would "do" and they  did for the most part, well for a long time, but just since that single game i place in one of the nes's,  it seemed to haul on the pins....but i may just "toss" the game so to  speak ,  to reduce  risking it happening again.

No,  it was mighty bomb jack...just got from ebay

Remember, it's the pins that move, not the game. The game is the same shape when it easily slides in without problems as it is when you pull it out. It's those really soft pins these replacements have that are the problem. I'd hate to see someone ruin a good game because a crappy pin connector that bent takes a chunk out of the game on it's way out.

I  know what  you mean , i got that  feeling when i  pulled the game out....eeesh the sound it made, grinding, i checked ot make sure there was no visible damage to the game. But lets say it is the game, is it possible??? Is there any chance of it?? that somehow the games connectors gripped behind the nes pin conectors and bent them slightly, was it purely bad luck that  this game caused this......i just want to make sure if im going to test this game on my other nes..

I did some pin bending in days long ago. Worked for me.

To be honest with you, at this point, no amount of reassurance will completely set your mind at ease. So you'll be hesitant to try that game in your other machine, so I suggest that you do not.

But hold onto it, you never know if you'll have the chance to test it in a less risky situation. And when you find that after your Nes is fixed when using one of these replacements, it happens again, you'll be thankful you kept the game because you'll realize it was never the game at all. ;)

Yea that makes sense,  i wont actually throw it out,  just hide it so its  not played lol nor will  i sell it, i  could never do that  to  someone if indeed it is the game. I  think i will  examine the game closer tomorrow  by taking it apart and looking for any clues,  maybe there is something reaslly out of shape that  i didnt see, you never  know lol :o
