LCD panels completely own CRTs.

I can't believe you're saying that.  For so long, you stayed smart and stuck with your CRT.....  Now, the dark side has taken you over.

I know, I still don't like the resolution or the price, but the size, clarity, color, and brightness more than make up for it.  There is no better image quality than that of the LCD panel, in its native resolution.  This thing is brighter than ANY CRT that I have ever seen, and it just looks so beautiful.  I am a convert.

Part of the reason I was touting CRT's before hand is that I had really only ever seen LCD's in best buy or circuit city, and they do not run them at the correct res, which makes a huge difference.

Bad bad bad.  Resolution is sooooo important for good image quality.  Once they can handle really high resolutions at a decent price, there will be no question, but until then, I'll stick with this Trinitron flat-screen CRT, thanks.

I loathe and love the summer weather.  Hot and bright outside, I despise thee.  Calm cool air conditioned splendor inside, my gaming life is complete.

hot weather is good when cycling, but bad for everything else. I prefer around 20 degrees celcius and sunny. That's perfect.

Yeah, I always have some sort of liquid in my hand, too.  In fact, I have seven IV's hooked up to each of my arms and legs, constantly pumping milk, water, soda, and mustard into my veins.  So, I sweat a lot too....  but really, summer and sunlight are way overrated.  Snow and rain rawk.

Well, I FINALLY have my PC back.  Don't have to use that old crappy PIII anymore.  My power supply died a week or two ago, then a friend of mine gave me an extra PSU he had, which ended up being shot as well.  So, I went out and bought a new one last night, brought it home, installed it, and found out it was no good either.  What are the chances?!?!  Anyhow, I exchanged it for another one today and this one works fine.  Thank goodness.  Let's just hope it doesn't die before I finish typing this sentence.

If I remember correctly, I saw a report about it on the news not too long ago.  Apparently it was a promotoion by Burger King to promote their new chicken sandwich.  All of it was taped beforehand.  They just paid some guy to dress up in a suit and do as many things as they could think of.

Best trip of my life! I really didn't want to come home - ever. Even though my game room is here an all an that's saying a lot! I came home to find out that 4 lightbulbs had blown out while I was gone (my mom didn't change them) and the house is a mess. Not a pleasant thing to come home to.

The only D&D players I know are my girlfriend and some of her friends, and they're hardly nerdy.  I'd need more info before I categorize this entire group.

I knew some kids in High School who went the whole nine yards. They'd wear fake armor and play in the woods to "get that feel". I guess what that feel is is the utter nerdiness.

You would probably have to gauge how seriously they take D&D before you judge them.  For instance, if they get together with thier friends every once in a while to "get a game in", then they are normal and in line with video game collectors.  If they try to pick up chicks by bragging that they have been the Dungeon Master for 4 months, then they are at least 2 rungs below.

That is of course if the Dungeon Master actaully dares to venture out of his room to talk to chicks.

If i see anyone walking around in armor and acting the part and talking about there dungeon ranking and speaking like a dwarf or elf or anything that is most definately the lowest rung of any Nerd ranking, but thats just me.

My vision of the geekiest seen ever:  One guy, speaking in elfish and wearing armor, arguing with a guy, speaking in Klingon and wearing a Star Trek uniform, arguing about whether or not a light saber would be possible to build.

For the benefit of the youngins, story time...lol I was stressin over this dude for over a year (yup, up until Feb actually). I knew there was no way in hell that was happenin so I just said fuck it and went about my bidness without giving him a thought. Two months later I end up hookin up with my current dude (who is totally fucking awesome, far better than the dude that dissed me) totally out of the blue. The moral of the story: quit stressin over people that'll never give you a second though. It's pointless, they ain't worth it, and there are far better things to torture yourself over. Worry about more important shit like gettin through the day in one piece, never know what'll happen tommorrow. Just say fuck it cause there's plenty of other peeps out there. I met a dumb lady yesterday.
I was happily driving over the highway on my way to the circuit. I couldn't find it, and I decided to go off the highway and look around and maybe ask someone the way. Just before I went off I overtook a lady in an even smaller car that seemed to think it's normal to drive 20 km below the maximum speed.
Anyways, I get off the highway and notice a map of the city at the end of the road. I park my car, and take a look at it. I can't find the circuit on it though, and head, looking puzzled and sad, back to my car.  Then I notice the lady has parked behind me. She walked up to me and asked:  'Do you know how I can get to Heerenveen? (city)'
Me, not realizing at the moment we had just past it:'I'm sorry, I have no idea, but I might have a map.'  So I look through my car for a map while she's waiting. I can't find it, so I tell her. she replies something like 'ok' and heads back to her car. I get in mine and drive away. I decided to go back on the highway, so after about a 100 meters I find a place to turn and head back, past the lady. I see her sitting in her car checking a map of her own.

In short: This woman passed the city she has to go to, but failed to notice. Than asks a guy that has obviously no idea where he is, if he knows how to find it. Then makes him look for a map, while she has one herself. OLD PEOPLE SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED ON THE ROAD!

One time while exploring the jungles of Africa I became lost and fell of a cliff. When I awoke several days later I had found myself adopted by a family of apes. I remember thinking “what kind of cruel trick is this?” Now there was this pretzel stand that he stood next to the man pretending to be my uncle. And at this stand you could chose to dip your pretzel in to cheese or hot mustard sauce. Now the most peculiar thing was that the man pretending to be my uncle had bought a pretzel and dipped it in both the cheese and the hot mustard sauce. Now that was weird.

I am back at work today.  After spending one glorious week in Florida (but having to cut the trip short because of the hurricane) I'm back home.  And while I was gone everything on Earth happened.  I mean everything.

-My sister gave birth to her first kid
-My mom had surgery
-One of my friends proposed to his girlfriend and made me best man
-One of the major parts of my job has changed (and I can't find anybody that knows how it has)
-My car battery is dead

Also, I don't know if the week of fun in the sun I had was worth the amoumt of bullshit work that was piling up while I was gone.

Same here i started some new threads but it is calming down here. I think it might just be because its the end of summer and we are all kind of getting back into our routines. I still check in a few times a day... when i actually leave the site.

Well my life sucks right now, I don't feel like talking much or doing anything really. I'm stuck in the water temple in Tales of Symphonia, I just can't beat the boss. It fucking blows cause I've been trying for a week now.

What else? Well I'm broke, no loot, that bad. I need to dig up $100 for a fellow collector which is first priority. I might have to sell parts of my collection, still trying to talk myself into it. I know it needs to be done but I just can't bring myself to part with my games. I gotta find the loot cause I want to go to NJ in Oct. My dude insists on buying my plane ticket and paying for everything but dammit I wanna at least get my own plane ticket.

Christmas is gonna suck balls this year, been there before an that's not really a big deal. The big prob right now is me an my dude discussed the relocation thing. He pretty much hates Pittsburgh though everything is WAY more affordable here. It looks like I'll be moving but when is dependent on money. It really really blows cause him coming here makes more sense all the way around. Me going there is ten times the hassle compared to him coming here. Dunno if anyone can dig but my attachment to the Burgh is such that leavin might just be the death of me. Right now staying doesn't seem much better though.

To sum it all up, everything FUCKING SUCKS due to lack of funds. I haven't been game hunting, haven't been playing pool, goin out with my friends, nothing. Just running errands for my family and sittin on my ass depressed pretty much. If that damn game wasn't pissing me off so bad maybe things would be better...lol

Lastly, speaking of games I talked to Mike tonight and he made me see the whole "christmas is gonna suck" thing in a different perspective. I really wanted to get my DS on the release date but I really want some games comin out Oct-Dec right. Nintendo is prolly gonna fuck us like they did with the GBA release by putting out putrid color choices first and coming out with some awesome, limited edition thing in a month or two. I think I'll wait. Besides, prices will drop on games an shit right? :girl:

I just got a "server" from the librarian at my schoo. I dont know how much use i am really going to get out of it because it is soo oold. It has a 5 1/2 floppy drive. I havent seen one since 3rd grade. But it also has cd drive and a 3 1/2 drive i dont know any specs on it yet. Gonna try and get it running tonight.

If you are going to use it for a web server, then the speed doesn't really matter so much because of how slow you internet connection is.  The hard drive in that old thing can prolly spurt data out at 1-5Mb/s, which is more than you internet connection can handle most likely.  Linux is your best option, Windows will just be too slow on something that old.  Slackware 8.0 is what I ran on my first server, which is about the same age as the computer you just got, and it was just fine.  

The damn thing wont even turn on. There is stuff in this ive never seen before. Everything on here is older than i thought... So far i am going about this blindly. If worst comes to worst i am going to have to have my cousin come over and take a look at it. But before that i will search the net.

I did have a stick of this ram though i got it out of my aunts old compaq she gave me from '95.

No, I've been working non-stop for the past week.  The only breaks I get is when I come here for 15-20 minutes.  I've had shit planned out for me everyday after work too.  The only time I have to do anything is after 11:00 when I should be sleeping.  On the bright side, It's payday today and I don't have anything planned after work so I can go and buy a bunch of shit.

St. Helen's been having some earthquakes or something the past few days.

This is only somewhat related, but I think the Yellowstone area of the country is like 10,000 years overdue for an enormous volcanic eruption that could cover most of the U.S. in ash and probably kill hundreds of thousands of people.

I know we get lost of earthquakes but most of them happen to far out at sea and are to small to have any real effect.

Yeah, there is a massive volcano under yellowstone, and yes we are way overdue.  It's cycle is 600,000 years and it is 40,000 years overdue.

That only talks about 2 volcanos in Yellowstone. I thought there was a 3rd caldera. 1 came up almost right next to the other. I thought i saw a show about it on discovery channel or something like that. Maybe they formed during the same eruption?

I found the real thing.  I don't know how, but I was pointing into Oregon.  Anyway, I had to mix two maps together the scale is the same between them and I lined them up as best I could.  But I got the right one.  
That place Amboy is the only place that I know where you can buy chain saws and hard alcohol in the same store.  

I will keep that in mind when visiting the westcoast. I know of no place on the entire eastcoast were this is possible.

Holy crap.  The Huckleberry Ridge Caldera, which was formed two million years ago put out 2500 CUBIC KILOMETERS of magma/ash/etc.  The 1980 Mt. St. Helens eruption, on the other hand put out about 0.3 square kilometers of matter.  No comparisson there at all.

Well, techincally they are connected through the tectonic plates of the Earth.  A shift in one could effect the other one because they act on the same tectonic plate.

I wasnt sure if they were on the same plate or not. If im not mistaken there are 3 or 4 plates around that area.  It's the Ring of Fire. Many plates lots of movement lots of volcanoes.
Also isnt there a Nuclear Power Plant on or very close to the San Andreas Fault?

Also at least St. Helens is moving slowly so its monitorable and doesnt just explode with out much warning.

If there is a nuclear power plant near a fault line, I'm sure that ever precaution was taken to make sure that it is earthquake proof, or at least as resialiant as humanly possible.

Another St. Helens update just saw on the news the earthquakes have increased to 4 a minute.  They're expecting when it erupts to spray ash ten miles into the sky but not be nearly as devastating as the 1980 eruption.

I just installed linux, and apart from some problems with the many buttons of my mouse, it seems to run rather smoothly.

Any particular reason you installed it?

My only experience with Linux was an install of Slackware on a pentium 1 @ 90MHz.  The performance I got out of it was better than the 650 P!!! running windows, so I was much impressed.  But I have no need for Linux and its performance now. :-) Gotta love the ole' AMD chips and their overclockability.  Stable at a 30% increase in clock speed.

Windows xp was messing up after installing service pack 2.

I've heard a lot of mixed experiences with SP2.  Some people (like Eddie and a friend of hydrobond's) had such bad problems that their computers didn't work after installing it.  Others had no problems whatsoever.  I'm staying away from it for now.

My computer works fine after installing it. The only thing that screwed up my computer for awhile was WMP10 it would freeze everything up. I dont know how for sure but that problem got resolved.

@Nep - Frank did all the work on the slackware.  To edit stuff I FTP's into the box.  I never touched the linux, so I cant really comment. But it is only command line, there is no GUI.

@Arr - can you crop that pic please, its huge.  What Linux flavor is that?  I may have to give it a try.

And on a side note, if you get the CD version of SP2, it works fine.  I think there might have been a corruption issue with getting it over the net.

I actually forgot about it because I got the Yahoo anti-spyware toolbar and then got the Mozilla Firefox browser so I no longer have spyware issues on my XP machine.

I just talked to someone today who told me SP2 has HUGE security holes and that SP3 has been out for a week or 2 already. I can confirm the security holes but i am looking into the SP3 because i will get it seeing as it can't be any worse than what i got now.

Well, that image will probably come back as soon as the attachments are working again.  I can just delete it manually, though.  I *may* be able to figure out a way to allow people to un-attach their own attachments and re-attach them later.  That'd allow a re-size of such an image.  I'll look into it.

The other day i got a call from a extremely thick accented Asian whos name was Adam Johnson. I was in the middle of playing MK Deception so i had to pause to answer the phone.
He asked for my stepdad i told him he wasn't here, mean while i have started playing Deception again. So he asks if i am 18 (i am always 18 when something like this happens;)). So the guy is going on about free movie tickets and free this and that for about 8 or so minutes then he says "You wrill onry have to pay shmall shipping chaage of $3.95" So i hung up.
Less than 2 minutes later phone rings
I answer pausing again.
It is the asian again(Upon his "Herro" i resume fighting Noob-Smoke) asking why i "hang up"? I tell him i don't pay the bills here so they don't want to talk to me.
"OOO so that make you luckier because you answer phone you get free movie tickets."
ME "I dont want to pay shipping on anything"
He starts pithcing more ads so i put phone on couch next to me for about 5 minutes.
Then toss the phone to my little brother across the room and tell him to just say yes and uh huh to everything the guy asks. (i am cracking up he is struggling not to)

I had so much fun with this guy though. I enjoy talking to telemarketers alot of times. I waste their time more than they waste mine. If you noticed all i did was play Deception while the guy was talking to me anyways. So all that happened was he couldn't call anyone else and i still got to do what i wanted.

For about four years our house had three phone lines coming into it, one for main, one for the internet and one for my grandmother.  All the phones were listed under my dad's name.  This lead to an interesting phenomenon.  If all three numbers were in a certain companies call list, all three of them would ring almost simultaneously.  One would go off, the second would go off two or three seconds later, and then the third one would go off a few seconds after that.

Now I know how the power company feels when the power goes out during a storm, and everyone calls in to report the outage.

Since then, we have gotten rid of the internet line, as the cable connection made it obsolete.

When I mess with telemarketers (I have caller ID so i can usually tell when its them) I try to sell them some of my stuff.  It usually goes something like this...

*pick up*
ME: hello
telemarketer: Hi i'm calling form (company name here) and i'd like to talk to you about a special offer we're running.
ME: no, but how would you like to buy a bible from me?
telemarketer:...uhh...
ME: exactly
*hang up*

It's also generally a good idea to let girlfriends beat you, unless you have a rare case where said girlfriend is a gamer.  If you completely kick their ass every time they play, it's not going to be much fun for them and you'll quickly lose a gaming partner.

I have to try and finish this 10 page Autobiography in under 2 days now....this sucks...

I like history too, but not this class.  Last term, only three people out of 25-30 finished this professor's class.  I of course found this out when it was too late.  The guy didn't even give us a syllabus until the third week of class (in a ten week term), long after it was too late to switch to a different section.

That sucks.
I have had teachers like that. I have a crazy teacher now but that is a story for when i have time to tell it.

I always liked math, because I was good at it. Now French, there's a subject to hate.

I was always good at math, but the fact that it had so many rules and allowed for no creativity (in the classroom anyway) turned me off to it.  Then of course there was the fact that I would never use a lot of it myself.  Sure, calculus and trigonometry affect me every day, but other people figured those problems out.  I don't (and won't) have to in any of the careers I'm looking at.

I am horrible at math.  I took an algebra class my first year in college and wrote down damn near everything the teacher said and studied it for 2-3 hours a night and still only got like a C+ in the class.

Yeah, my major if pretty much all math. But i guess thats what I asked for when i went into electrical/computer engineering.

I have a test in algebra tomorrow and in gym class I think we have to climb the rope.

I liked when we got to climb the rope in gym. Noone thought i was going to be able to even get to the top of the rope because of the way i looked and acted but i had the fastest time.
Best thing in gym was wrestling Freshman year. I had to go up against this kid who was a good 5 inches taler than me and looked like he was in much better shape. He was saying "Aww come on Coach you can't give me more of a challenge this is going to be too easy!"
Got on the mat Coach wistled. In under 2 seconds i grabbed the kids leg and arm flipped him onto his back. Giving me 2 points. Needless to say i beat almost everyone  i was matched up with.
