Title: The 49 Best Sequel-Less Games Post by: Tondog on May 30, 2007, 02:39:16 AM http://www.games.net/article/feature/115581/the-49-best-sequel-less-games/
Great list, but it's missing several great ones like Vexx, Full Throttle, Outlaws, Kinetica, Fantavision, Thrasher: Skate and Destroy, Comix Zone, River City Ransom, Samba De Amigo, American McGee’s Alice, and Okami. However, I completely agree with XIII, Uniracers, Disruptor, Chu Chu Rocket, Psi Ops, Killer 7, Indigo Prophecy, Ico, Rez, Shadow of the Colossus, Eternal Darkness, Beyond Good and Evil, Grim Fandango, and Psychonauts. Also: I like how the top 2 spots both go something Tim Schafer created. I think it is a bit soon to pull the "sequel-less" card on last gen games. Then again others have made bigger jumps in generations before, like NiGHTS, Metroid, and Shadowrun. Keeping that line of thought, one can only hope for a Kid Icarus sequel. (http://paradox-lost.com/favicon.ico)Eggplant forever! Title: Re: The 49 Best Sequel-Less Games Post by: captain_nintendo on May 30, 2007, 10:03:36 AM Seems to be a list for everything now-a-days :o
Also, I bet some of those "newer" games get sequels eventually. (Shadow of Colosus) Title: Re: The 49 Best Sequel-Less Games Post by: DarthKur on May 30, 2007, 10:28:33 AM Technically there is a sequel for Adventure, oddly enough entitled Adventure II. Created for the Atari 5200 and available on Atariage. True it's an "unofficial" sequel but the way it's professionally made and packaged it might as well be thought of as the real deal.
http://www.atariage.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=334 There's also an Adventure 2.0 on the Atari Flashback 2 dedicated console that is really fun. (Shadow of Colosus) No, Shadow of the Colossus would never get a sequel. The only way it would get a sequel is if it were a spiritual successor much like Shadow of the Colossus was to ICO. Title: Re: The 49 Best Sequel-Less Games Post by: Tondog on May 30, 2007, 02:29:01 PM Samba de Amigo ver 2000 (http://www.rfgeneration.com/cgi-bin/getinfo.pl?ID=J-071-S-00130-A&) You could count Samba 2000, but I mean, it never came out here.Quote I think it is a bit soon to pull the "sequel-less" card on last gen games. I definitely don't think so. With the way the games industry is going these days, your game has to suceed in the first year (most times shorter) in order to get a sequel. I highly doubt UbiSoft is going to pull a sequel for Beyond Good and Evil because it sold like utter crap.Title: Re: The 49 Best Sequel-Less Games Post by: Fuyukaze on May 30, 2007, 02:37:51 PM http://www.games.net/article/feature/115581/the-49-best-sequel-less-games/ Full Throttle? Title: Re: The 49 Best Sequel-Less Games Post by: Tan on May 30, 2007, 02:39:57 PM I highly doubt UbiSoft is going to pull a sequel for Beyond Good and Evil because it sold like utter crap. As good a game as it is you can't sell the population on a sequel to a game they never played. More often than not when they do it's remake or a completely different take on a license which just disappoints those fans no matter how few they are. Riddick is another example, it's getting a remake because they figure with the low sales figures that no one would remember one of the best Xbox/PC games of the last few years and don't want to confuse them with a sequel to something they never experienced. Title: Re: The 49 Best Sequel-Less Games Post by: Tan on May 30, 2007, 02:42:23 PM I think he means this full throttle:

Tim Schafer is my hero. I still need to play Grim Fandango though. >.< Title: Re: The 49 Best Sequel-Less Games Post by: Tondog on May 30, 2007, 03:33:41 PM Tan, I mean that Full Throttle, the Tim Schafer one. Definitely not the SNES one Fuyukaze pointed out.
Dude. Grim Fandango. Get it now. It's amazing. Title: Re: The 49 Best Sequel-Less Games Post by: Tynstar on May 31, 2007, 04:42:02 PM LANDSTALKERS!!!!!!! for the Genesis.
Title: Re: The 49 Best Sequel-Less Games Post by: nester on May 31, 2007, 05:28:38 PM What, no Guardian Legend? That game would've been great on the SNES. Too bad nobody ever played it.
Title: Re: The 49 Best Sequel-Less Games Post by: two_scoop_steve on June 02, 2007, 05:09:50 PM guardian legend is one of my favorite games.

I wish I had the link with me but Beyond Good and Evil actually didn't sell like crap at all, it sold rather well. In fact, the game was originally meant to be part of a trilogy (if you've beaten the game that part is kind of obvious). I'll make an edit to this post if I find the link. |
