Title: Favorite Final Fantasy Post by: Shimra on July 12, 2007, 09:30:30 PM Just kind of curious. Lots of options, I included Tactics because some people claim it is the greatest game ever. Anyway, my favorite Final Fantasy is 4 (2 in America). The game was awe-inspiring. I can't seem to put my finger on it. The fact that Cecil kills like thousands of innocent people and then becomes a good guy is fairly awesome, and Kane is easily the most badass Final Fantasy character. The only downfall was the bad plot twist towards the end.
Title: Re: Favorite Final Fantasy Post by: JWKobayashi on July 12, 2007, 10:00:37 PM I've got to go with 6. Huge cast of memorable characters, cool attacks, a great storyline, and unique enemies help to make it the best.
I loved the little touches, fom the opera house, to the auction house, to the fighting game style blitz techniques. I used to absolutely love RPGs, and this and Chrono Trigger take the cake as the best of all time in my book. :) [Edit] - But I must admit that FFT did indeed kick much ass! Title: Re: Favorite Final Fantasy Post by: hXd on July 12, 2007, 11:15:32 PM 7 was the first one I ever played, so that one immediately got my vote, but I think all of the PS and PS2 ones are terrific. I still have yet to fully explore the earlier ones (I'm working on 3 for DS right now).
EDIT: btw post 100 w00t! Title: Re: Favorite Final Fantasy Post by: The Metamorphosing Leon on July 13, 2007, 01:43:11 AM VII
Played others, never got into them. Title: Re: Favorite Final Fantasy Post by: OatBob on July 13, 2007, 02:20:25 AM FF Tactics wins my vote. This is one of the better strategy games I have played, and the story is pretty deep with surprising twists. Having heard that FF XII is also set in Ivalice, I'm really looking forward to picking that one up sometime.
Title: Re: Favorite Final Fantasy Post by: BadEnoughDude on July 13, 2007, 05:54:33 AM Gotta go with VII. It's the reason I switched from Nintendo to Playstation, and resulted in the complete loss of the summer between 9th and 10th grade.
The materia system was simple and brilliant, the Weapon battles were epic and the soundtrack was enthralling. My only beef with the game was the sub-par ending which, if I remember correctly, was all about fantastic CG and not so much about closure with the characters. They've remedied that a bit lately with the release of 'Advent Children' but it was still annoying at the time. Title: Re: Favorite Final Fantasy Post by: OatBob on July 13, 2007, 07:00:43 AM yeah, especially when the Knights of the Round attack clocks in just under 2 minutes.
Title: Re: Favorite Final Fantasy Post by: phoenix1967 on July 13, 2007, 07:25:39 AM My favorite final fantasy would be sharing a weekend of carnal lust with Charlize Theron and Scarlet Johannsen. I would then die a happy man. 8)
Title: Re: Favorite Final Fantasy Post by: Ghost Soldier on July 13, 2007, 08:29:21 AM My vote is for good ole' Final Fantasy. Nothing beat's the original game.
Title: Re: Favorite Final Fantasy Post by: Rajaat the Warbringer on July 13, 2007, 09:04:48 AM 4 is easily my favorite.

The opera house and all of that was the shiznit. Plus you can build your dudes up with different effects.
Title: Re: Favorite Final Fantasy Post by: Tynstar on July 13, 2007, 02:19:49 PM I said 7 because that is the only one I have played for hours.
Title: Re: Favorite Final Fantasy Post by: Fuyukaze on July 13, 2007, 05:10:23 PM I've played all but 3 and 11 but went with 6. Everything after 7 (including) got more over dramatic and annyong to me. I've got 12 but was so bored with it I just gave up. So much to do yet none of it feels that rewarding. The story looks nice and all the extra stuff you can do looks nice but there's so much to do just to get the whole picture that even with a strategy guide it's overwhelming.

I put in probably 40 hours of FFXII over the course of about a month, and haven't played a second of it since. I never really knew why, but what you said really makes sense. It is a HUGE game, and even after the time I had put in there was seemingly an infinite number of things that still needed to be done. If I was still 16 with nothing else to do this would be great, but as a 25 year old I just don't have time for a 200 hour game. Title: Re: Favorite Final Fantasy Post by: cverz2 on July 13, 2007, 08:57:06 PM I hate to admit it, but I have never played a Final Fantasy game and I have a handful of them. I have just never got around to playing them yet.
( Looks from side to side, shamelessly ) :-\ Title: Re: Favorite Final Fantasy Post by: Tan on July 14, 2007, 12:26:20 AM Trying to get into FF X right now to see what all the fuss is about, but it's slow going. I guess I'm just getting tired of all the stereotypical effeminate teenage boy RPG's I guess.
Mass Effect and Two Worlds can't come soon enough. :P Title: Re: Favorite Final Fantasy Post by: shoes23 on July 14, 2007, 12:53:35 AM I voted for IV, as it is the only one that I've played through multiple times. The choice is hard though as almost all of them are a blast to play. I think that VII is overrated, but that is not to say that it isn't a damn fine RPG.
Title: Re: Favorite Final Fantasy Post by: Shimra on July 14, 2007, 01:19:16 AM X is a great game, perhaps my favorite story in any RPG. Tidus' emo persona is somewhat justifiable and he grows out of it. That game had one amazing cast of characters.
FFXII is probably the 'best' FF but I personally feel as though it is a bit of a chore to get into. The plot is great but the plot segments are so spread out, and you'll often find yourself doing sidequests more than the actual story so when you finally get back on track you forget what is happening in the story. Also, the characters don't have as much personality as those in the other 'later generation' FFs. Still though, great game. It sucks that you just can't skip the half hour of cut scenes before you get to the gameplay. I've got Mass Effect reserved. Two Worlds does look to be shaping up to be a good one from what I've seen; hopefully it doesn't disappoint. I'll still maintain that anything post FF6 is overrated. 4, 5, and 6 were incredible. I really had a hard time getting into 7 at first, and it took me a while to get through it. Title: Re: Favorite Final Fantasy Post by: Tondog on July 17, 2007, 11:29:46 PM I played FF VII for about 3 hours before getting sick of it.
Title: Re: Favorite Final Fantasy Post by: Izret101 on July 18, 2007, 09:19:30 PM Is FF7 actually going to get rereleased on PS3 with the revamped graphics?
If so i would be more than willing to get that. My one of my biggest gripes with FF7 was the graphics and trying to find my way around. Title: Re: Favorite Final Fantasy Post by: Tondog on July 18, 2007, 11:31:51 PM Is FF7 actually going to get rereleased on PS3 with the revamped graphics? I say yes. It's money in the bank for Square.Title: Re: Favorite Final Fantasy Post by: ganonbanned on July 19, 2007, 06:09:01 PM 7... the only one I played. it wasnt even that good. I played for only a few hours.
Title: Re: Favorite Final Fantasy Post by: Shimra on July 20, 2007, 01:37:46 AM You know, most RPGs are like 30 hours, so playing for a few hours doesn't really qualify as playing it.
I mean dude, that's almost enough time to discover Sephiroth's motif and Aeries' fate. almost Title: Re: Favorite Final Fantasy Post by: Kevincal on July 20, 2007, 10:09:58 PM FF VII :D
Title: Re: Favorite Final Fantasy Post by: Marriott_Guy on July 21, 2007, 01:04:00 PM I will admit that I haven't had the pleasure of playing FF I-VI, so I can only base my opinion from VVII and beyond.
FF VII IMHO is the best, followed by VIII and then IX. All were great in their own way. I remember that I was a bit turned off when I first fired up VIII - the characters graphics were more generic 'action' figures than in VII, and I was nervous that this big jump in character presentation would also be seen in the game. Obviously, I was pleasantly surprised. Overall a great series. I will have to get my hands on FF I-VI and give those a go. FF X and beyond was too much FMV, not enough gameplay. Title: Re: Favorite Final Fantasy Post by: Tondog on July 21, 2007, 01:15:42 PM I still see no option for they all are bad. ;)
